Download or read book Physics and Chemistry of Alkali Metal Adsorption written by H. P. Bonzel and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1989 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a thorough overview on the fundamental and applied aspects of the recent developments and advances in the area of alkali metal adsorption on metals and semiconductors. Effects such as surface reconstruction, ordered phases, electronic transitions and surface diffusion are discussed. Coadsorption of alkali metals and molecules on metal surfaces is examined in terms of particle interactions and surface reactivity. Special attention is given to the relationship between coadsorption-studies and heterogeneous catalysis. Other topics reviewed include the study of matrix-isolated alkali metal-molecule complexes and the alkali metal-enhanced surface reactivity of semiconductors. Written by a team of international experts, the work will provide both a stimulus for future research in this field, as well as useful reference material for many years to come.
Book Synopsis Applied Chemistry and Physics by : Robert A. Burke
Download or read book Applied Chemistry and Physics written by Robert A. Burke and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a hazardous materials consultant with over 40 years of experience in emergency services, the five-volume Hazmatology: The Science of Hazardous Materials suggests a new approach dealing with the most common aspects of hazardous materials, containers, and the affected environment. It focuses on innovations in decontamination, monitoring instruments, and personal protective equipment in a scientific way, utilizing common sense, and takes a risk-benefit approach to hazardous material response. This set provides the reader with a hazardous materials "Tool Box" and a guide for learning which tools to use under what circumstances. Dealing with hazardous materials incidents cannot be accomplished effectively and safely without knowing the effects these materials have. Volume Three, Applied Chemistry and Physics, is not about teaching chemistry and physics. It is about presenting these topics at the level that emergency responders will understand so they can apply the concepts using a risk management system. FEATURES Uses a scientific approach utilizing analysis of previous incidents Offers a risk-benefit approach based upon science and history Provides understanding tools for your Hazmat Tool Box Simplifies physical and chemical characteristics Utilizes chemistry and physics to identify hazards to responders
Book Synopsis Alkaline-Earth Metal Compounds by : Sjoerd Harder
Download or read book Alkaline-Earth Metal Compounds written by Sjoerd Harder and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-07-20 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series Topics in Organometallic Chemistry presents critical overviews of research results in organometallic chemistry. As our understanding of organometallic structure, properties and mechanisms increases, new ways are opened for the design of organometallic compounds and reactions tailored to the needs of such diverse areas as organic synthesis, medical research, biology and materials science. Thus the scope of coverage includes a broad range of topics in pure and applied organometallic chemistry, where new breakthroughs are being achieved that are of significance to a larger scientific audience. The individual volumes of Topics in Organometallic Chemistry are thematic. Review articles are generally invited by the volume editors.

Book Synopsis Metals and Chemical Change by : David Arthur Johnson
Download or read book Metals and Chemical Change written by David Arthur Johnson and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2002 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at how molecules react, and how the feasibility and outcome of chemical reactions can be predicted. Beginning with an introduction to the concept of an activity series of metals, Metals and Chemical Change then introduces chemical thermodynamics (enthalpy, entropy and free energy) and applies the concept to both inorganic and organic elements. A Case Study on batteries and fuel cells is also included. The accompanying CD-ROM includes video sequences of the reactions of metals with water, acid and aqueous ions, and gives the reader an opportunity to make experimental observations and predictions about chemical behaviour. A comprehensive Data Book of chemical and physical constants is included, along with a set of interactive self-assessment questions. The Molecular World series provides an integrated introduction to all branches of chemistry for both students wishing to specialise and those wishing to gain a broad understanding of chemistry and its relevance to the everyday world and to other areas of science. The books, with their Case Studies and accompanying multi-media interactive CD-ROMs, will also provide valuable resource material for teachers and lecturers. (The CD-ROMs are designed for use on a PC running Windows 95, 98, ME or 2000.)

Book Synopsis The Alkali Metal Ions: Their Role for Life by : Astrid Sigel
Download or read book The Alkali Metal Ions: Their Role for Life written by Astrid Sigel and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-02-09 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: MILS-16 provides an up-to-date review of the impact of alkali metal ions on life. Their bioinorganic chemistry and analytical determination, the solid state structures of bio-ligand complexes and the properties of alkali metal ions in solution in the context of all kinds of biologically relevant ligands are covered, this includes proteins (enzymes) and nucleic acids (G-quadruplexes). Minerals containing sodium (Na+) and potassium (K+) are abundant in the Earth's crust, making Na+ and K+ easily available. In contrast, the alkali elements lithium (Li+), rubidium, and cesium are rare and the radioactive francium occurs only in traces. Since the intra- and extracellular, as well as the compartmental concentrations of Na+ and K+ differ significantly, homeostasis and active transport of these ions are important; this involves transporters/carriers and pore-forming ion channel proteins. Systems like Na+/K+-ATPases, H+/K+-ATPases or Na+/H+ antiporters are thoroughly discussed. The role of K+ in photosynthesis and the role of Na+ in charging the "battery of life" are pointed out. Also, the relationships between alkali metal ions and diseases (e.g., Parkinson or traumatic brain injury) are covered and the relevance of Li+ salts in medicine (pharmacology and mechanism) is reviewed. This and more is treated in an authoritative and timely manner in the 16 stimulating chapters of Volume 16, The Alkali Metal Ions: Their Role for Life, which are written by 44 internationally recognized experts from 12 nations. The impact of this vibrant research area is manifested in nearly 3000 references, over 30 tables and more than 150 illustrations (two thirds in color). MILS-16 also provides excellent information for teaching. Astrid Sigel, Helmut Sigel, and Roland K. O. Sigel have long-standing interests in Biological Inorganic Chemistry. Their research focuses on metal ion interactions with nucleotides and nucleic acids and on related topics. They edited previously 44 volumes in the series Metal Ions in Biological Systems.
