Download or read book Strength and Toughness of Materials written by Toshiro Kobayashi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2004-03-04 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the shift from the Metal Age progresses, materials engineers and materials scientists seek new analytical and design methods to create stronger and more reliable materials. Based on extensive research and developmental work done at the author’s multi-disciplinary material laboratory, this graduate-level and professional reference addresses the relationship between fracture mechanisms (macroscale) and the microscopic, with the goal of explaining macroscopic fracture behavior based on a microscopic fracture mechanism. A careful fusion of mechanics and materials science, this text and monograph systematically considers an array of materials, from metals through ceramics and polymers, and demonstrates lab-tested strategies to develop desirable high-temperature materials for technological applications.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 1096 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An International Conference on the Application of Fracture Mechanics to Ma terials and Structures was held at the Hotel Kolpinghaus in Freiburg, West Ger many, June 20-24, 1983. It was attended by more than 250 participants from different countries which include Austria, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Democratic Republic of Germany, Denmark, Federal Republic of Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, People's Republic of China, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America, USSR and Yugoslavia. Conference Co-Chairmen were Professor G. C. Sih, Lehigh University, Bethle hem, Pennsylvania, U. S. A. , Dr. E. Sommer, Fraunhofer-Institut fur Werkstoff mechanik, Freiburg, FRG and Professor W. Dahl, Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule, Aachen, FRG. Dr. Wenrich, as the representative of the Land Baden-WUrttemberg, delivered the opening address with the remarks that International Conferences can serve the means to further enhance the technology development of a country. He empha sized that the Federal Republic of Germany is presently in need of strengthening the engineering manpower in order to keep her in a competitive position. The Conference was officially cast off with the leading plenary lectures that under lined the theme of the technical lectures for the first day. This pattern was observed for the five-day meeting. The interplay between material and design re quirements was the theme and emphasized in many of the technical presentations that amounted to approximately ninety (90) papers.
Book Synopsis Engineering Applications of Fracture Analysis by : G. G. Garrett
Download or read book Engineering Applications of Fracture Analysis written by G. G. Garrett and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Engineering Applications of Fracture Analysis is a record of the proceedings of the First National Conference on Fracture, held at Johannesburg, South Africa in November 1979. The papers presented in the conference provide a general picture of fracture studies in South Africa. The contributions cover the theoretical analyses of the influence of dislocation stresses in initiating fracture; practical design of steel components exposed to high-temperature environments; problems encountered in South African industry, such as rock drilling equipment failures, unwanted rock fractures in mines and safety problems in nuclear reactors; fracture study techniques; and formal applications of fracture mechanics. The book will be of interest to metallurgists, engineers, and materials specialists.

Book Synopsis Mechanical Behavior and Fracture of Engineering Materials by : Jorge Luis González-Velázquez
Download or read book Mechanical Behavior and Fracture of Engineering Materials written by Jorge Luis González-Velázquez and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-08-29 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the theoretical concepts of stress and strain, as well as the strengthening and fracture mechanisms of engineering materials in an accessible level for non-expert readers, but without losing scientific rigor. This volume fills the gap between the specialized books on mechanical behavior, physical metallurgy and material science and engineering books on strength of materials, structural design and materials failure. Therefore it is intended for college students and practicing engineers that are learning for the first time the mechanical behavior and failure of engineering materials or wish to deepen their understanding on these topics. The book includes specific topics seldom covered in other books, such as: how to determine a state of stress, the relation between stress definition and mechanical design, or the theory behind the methods included in industrial standards to assess defects or to determine fatigue life. The emphasis is put into the link between scientific knowledge and practical applications, including solved problems of the main topics, such as stress and strain calculation. Mohr's Circle, yield criteria, fracture mechanics, fatigue and creep life prediction. The volume covers both the original findings in the field of mechanical behavior of engineering materials, and the most recent and widely accepted theories and techniques applied to this topic. At the beginning of some selected topics that by the author's judgement are transcendental for this field of study, the prime references are given, as well as a brief biographical semblance of those who were the pioneers or original contributors. Finally, the intention of this book is to be a textbook for undergraduate and graduate courses on Mechanical Behavior, Mechanical Metallurgy and Materials Science, as well as a consulting and/or training material for practicing engineers in industry that deal with mechanical design, materials selection, material processing, structural integrity assessment, and for researchers that incursion for the first time in the topics covered in this book.
