This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have pleasure in presenting Volume Fourteen to our readers. Volume Fourteen signifies a new dimension for our series, a volume devoted to the development of a single timely topic, that of sensitivity to uncertainty. This is still a broad topic and has been treated as such by the se veral distinguished authors contributing to the volume from their extensive experience both in theory and practice. While the theme running through the volume emphasizes uncertainties in areas related to reactor physics, it is true to say that this field of application has much to offer other disciplines as well. Some of the authors are engaged in ex tensions to other areas. The volume may therefore appeal to a much wider audience who will appreciate a single and compre hensive overview of a methodology that is applicable to other fields. Notable developments in the field of nuclear engineering have included the formatting in recent versions of Evaluated Nuclear Data Files (e.g., ENDF/B and its variants) of cross section uncertainty, the general acceptance of good practice in the representation of error correlation matrices, and more recent developments in the application of Monte Carlo tech niques to sensitivity analysis in complex geometries.
Book Synopsis The nth-Order Comprehensive Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis Methodology, Volume III by : Dan Gabriel Cacuci
Download or read book The nth-Order Comprehensive Adjoint Sensitivity Analysis Methodology, Volume III written by Dan Gabriel Cacuci and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-11 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text describes a comprehensive adjoint sensitivity analysis methodology (C-ASAM), developed by the author, enabling the efficient and exact computation of arbitrarily high-order functional derivatives of model responses to model parameters in large-scale systems. The model’s responses can be either scalar-valued functionals of the model’s parameters and state variables (as customarily encountered, e.g., in optimization problems) or general function-valued responses, which are often of interest but are currently not amenable to efficient sensitivity analysis. The C-ASAM framework is set in linearly increasing Hilbert spaces, each of state-function-dimensionality, as opposed to exponentially increasing parameter-dimensional spaces, thereby breaking the so-called “curse of dimensionality” in sensitivity and uncertainty analysis. The C-ASAM applies to any model; the larger the number of model parameters, the more efficient the C-ASAM becomes for computing arbitrarily high-order response sensitivities. The text includes illustrative paradigm problems which are fully worked-out to enable the thorough understanding of the C-ASAM’s principles and their practical application. The book will be helpful to those working in the fields of sensitivity analysis, uncertainty quantification, model validation, optimization, data assimilation, model calibration, sensor fusion, reduced-order modelling, inverse problems and predictive modelling. It serves as a textbook or as supplementary reading for graduate course on these topics, in academic departments in the natural, biological, and physical sciences and engineering. This Volume Three, the third of three, covers systems that are nonlinear in the state variables, model parameters and associated responses. The selected illustrative paradigm problems share these general characteristics. A separate Volume One covers systems that are linear in the state variables.

Book excerpt: "The latest edition of this popular ASTM series provides an extensive overview of the latest advances in reactor dosimetry. As operating nuclear power reactors have aged and continue to operate on extended operating licenses, new pressure vessel surveillance techniques have been required. Eastern European pressurized water reactors, especially those of the VVER-440 type, continue to have greater concerns about steel embrittlement, because of higher neutron radiation exposures than most Western European and US reactors. Accordingly, broader dosimetry studies are being made on the VVER reactors through retrospective dosimetry, ex-vessel dosimetry, and careful re-analysis of previously reported data."--Publisher's website.
