Download or read book Biblical Narratives and Human Flourishing written by Eleonore Stump and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-28 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biblical narratives include some of the most important and influential narratives in human history, shaping human understanding of the most basic questions of human life as lived individually or in social association with others. These narratives have lasted for so many centuries because they offer deep insights into the nature of the human condition and human flourishing. This volume includes chapters by accomplished philosophers and theologians who bring their expertise to bear on biblical narratives to show the way in which each narrative contributes something distinctive to our understanding of human flourishing. They broaden the ongoing work in analytic theology with a new focus on narrative and the knowledge of persons in philosophical-theological biblical exegesis. They also illustrate the narrative cognition that this methodology can provide. The book will be of interest to scholars of philosophy, theology, and biblical studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirteen years before the bloody 1994 genocide that swept across Rwanda and left more than a million people dead, the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ appeared to eight young people in the remote village of Kibeho. Through these visionaries, Mary and Jesus warned of the looming holocaust, which they assured could be averted if Rwandans opened their hearts to God and embraced His love. Much like what happened at similar sites such as Fátima and Lourdes, the messengers of Kibeho were at first mocked and disbelieved. But as miracle after miracle occurred in the tiny village, tens of thousands of Rwandans journeyed to Kibeho to behold the apparitions. For years, countless onlookers watched as the Mother and Son of God spoke through the eight seers about God’s love, sending messages that they insisted were meant not only for Rwandans, but for the entire world, to hear. Mary also sent messages to government and church leaders to instruct them how to end the ethnic hatred simmering in their country. She warned them that Rwanda would become “a river of blood” —a land of unspeakable carnage —if the hatred of the people was not quickly quelled by love. Some leaders listened, but very few believed: the prophetic and apocalyptic warnings tragically came true during 100 horrifying days of savage bloodletting and mass murder. After the genocide, and two decades of rigorous investigation, Our Lady of Kibeho became the first and only Vatican-approved Marian (that is, related to the Virgin Mary) site in all of Africa. But the story still remains largely unknown. Now, Immaculée Ilibagiza plans to change all that. She made many pilgrimages to Kibeho both before and after the holocaust, personally witnessed true miracles, and spoke with a number of the visionaries themselves. What she’s discovered will deeply touch your heart.

Book Synopsis The So-called Mixed Text by : Clinton S. Baldwin

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a number of scholars have identified a text-type in six of the books of the Catholic Epistles that they have called «mixed.» The So-Called Mixed Text: An Examination of the Non-Alexandrian and Non-Byzantine Text-Type in the Catholic Epistles is concerned with a comprehensive identification and evaluation of this so-called mixed text-type. This mixed category, if supported by empirical investigation to be more original than the Alexandrian and Byzantine texts, could necessitate the re-evaluation of these established text-types and also the re-evaluation of the designation «mixed» attributed to this group. In pursuit of this objective, Clinton S. Baldwin undertakes an in-depth study of this mixed phenomenon by studying 407 Greek manuscripts of the Catholic Epistles. Having identified 13 mixed groups across the Catholic Epistles, it is shown that the weighted value of this mixed category is negligible in terms of uncovering the earliest originals. Also of significance to this study is the use of factor analysis for the classification of New Testament Greek manuscripts. The reliability of factor analysis is demonstrated by another vital contribution of this study: the classification of the manuscripts of the Epistle of Jude, a book which hither-to-fore had not been comprehensively classified. Most of the manuscripts classified by factor analysis have later been confirmed by a modified form of the Claremont Profile Method. Finally, The So-Called Mixed Text demonstrates that the evolution of the New Testament text, which began in the earlier centuries, continued into the Middle Ages.

Download or read book Stepp'd in Blood written by Andrew Wallis and published by John Hunt Publishing. This book was released on 2019-04-26 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi was the signature moral horror of the late 20th century. Andrew Wallis reveals, for the first time, the personal lives and crimes of the family group (‘Akazu’) that destroyed their country and left one million dead. Wallis’ meticulous research uncovers a broad landscape of terror, looking back to the ‘forgotten’ Rwandan genocide of the early 1960s and the failure by the international community, to learn lessons of prevention and punishment, a failure that would be repeated thirty years later. Taking the rise and fall of Akazu personalities and their mafia-like network as its central strand, Stepp'd in Blood reveals how they were aided and abetted by western governments and the churches for decades. And how post-1994, many successfully evaded international justice to enjoy comfortable retirements in the same countries that supported them when they were in power. Stepp'd in Blood publishes in the year of the 25th commemoration of the Rwandan Genocide.
