Download or read book Domino Effects in the Process Industries written by Genserik Reniers and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2013-07-08 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domino Effects in the Process Industries discusses state-of-the-art theories, conceptual models, insights and practical issues surrounding large-scale knock-on accidents—so-called domino effects—in the chemical and process industries. The book treats such extremely low-frequency phenomena from a technological perspective, studying possible causes and introducing several approaches to assess and control the risks of these scenarios. The authors also examine these events from a managerial viewpoint, discussing single and multi-plant management insights and requirements to take pro-active measures to prevent such events. Academics, regulators, and industrialists who study and analyze domino effects in order to prevent such events will find the book unique and highly valuable. Outlines available methods in analyzing these events, aiding understanding of the accidents and their causes Covers current modelling, control and management tactics of domino effects, -facilitating prevention Identifies areas where new research is needed
Book Synopsis Domino Effects in the Process Industries by : Gabriele Landucci
Download or read book Domino Effects in the Process Industries written by Gabriele Landucci and published by Elsevier Inc. Chapters. This book was released on 2013-07-08 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Escalation triggered by fires resulting in domino scenarios was the cause of severe accidents in the process industry. As a matter of fact, the catastrophic failure of process equipment, both pressurized and atmospheric, may be induced by the heat-up due to the exposure to accidental fires, leading to the loss of containment of hazardous materials. In this chapter, the behavior of equipment exposed to accidental fire will be investigated in order to identify the fundamental mechanisms underlying the failure of vessels exposed to fire. In particular, both simplified tools and detailed models for the assessment of the performance of vessels involved in fires will be discussed. The final aim is to provide methods for the quantitative assessment of domino hazards caused by accidental fires, and for the application of both passive and active strategies for the control and reduction of the risk associated with incident escalation triggered by fire.
Book Synopsis Fire Fighting Pumping Systems at Industrial Facilities by : Dennis P. Nolan
Download or read book Fire Fighting Pumping Systems at Industrial Facilities written by Dennis P. Nolan and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2011-06-10 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written from the perspective of industrial users, this is the only book that describes how to install an effective firewater pumping system in a pragmatic and budget-conscious way rather than with purely the regulatory framework in mind. Based on the wide-ranging industrial experience of the author, this book is also the only one that deals with the particular risks and requirements of off-shore facilities. This book takes the reader beyond the prescriptive requirements of the fire code (NFPA, UL) and considers how to make the best choice of design for the budget available as well as how to ensure the other components of the pumping system and supporting services are optimized. The only alternative to guides written by regulatory enforcement bodies, this book is uniquely practical and objective – demonstrating how and why the standards need to be met Covers a wide range of industries, including those with exceptional requirements such as off-shore petroleum facilities and chemical plants Written by someone who has been responsible for the safety of large numbers of workers and billions of dollars worth of equipment, for those in similarly responsible positions

Book Synopsis Offshore Safety Management by : Ian Sutton
Download or read book Offshore Safety Management written by Ian Sutton and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offshore Safety Management, Second Edition provides an experienced engineer's perspective on the new Safety and Environmental System (SEMS) regulations for offshore oil and gas drilling, how they compare to prior regulations, and how to implement the new standards seamlessly and efficiently. The second edition is greatly expanded, with increased coverage of technical areas such as engineering standards and drilling, and procedural areas such as safety cases and formal safety assessments. The new material both complements the SEMS coverage and increases the book's relevance to a global audience. Following the explosion, fire, and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon floating drilling rig in April 2010, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulations, and Enforcement (BOEMRE) issued many new regulations. One of them was the Safety and Environmental System rule, which is based on the American Petroleum Institute's SEMP recommended practice, finalized in April 2013. Author Ian Sutton explains the SEMS rule, and describes what must be done to achieve compliance. Each of the twelve elements of the SEMS rule (such as Management of Change and Safe Work Practices) is described in the book, and guidance is provided on how to meet BOEMRE requirements. Detailed explanation of how to implement the new SEMS standard for offshore operations Ties the new regulations in with existing safety management approaches, helping managers leverage existing processes and paperwork With CEOs now signing off on compliance paperwork, this book provides expert insights so you can get SEMS compliance right the first time
Book Synopsis Fire Pump Arrangements at Industrial Facilities by : Dennis P. Nolan
Download or read book Fire Pump Arrangements at Industrial Facilities written by Dennis P. Nolan and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-22 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fire Pump Arrangements at Industrial Facilities, Third Edition delivers a practical reference from an author with a successful professional career in fire protection and loss prevention engineering in the oil and gas industry. While most regulatory standards are left to interpretation and try to cover multiple industries in one location, this book focuses on the equipment, standards and operations specific to the petroleum industry, covering quality controls, pump drivers and scheduled maintenance and audits so the equipment remains in safety compliance. Enhanced with new sections on human factors, case studies for modeling fire accidents and a look at recent events that have further shaped the safety and testing of fire pumps, the book provides the engineer and manager with a critical oil and gas resource for every aspect of firewater pumps. Remains the go-to reference for loss prevention specialists and fire engineering specific to the oil and gas industry Enhanced with new sections on quality audits and new case studies that evaluate operational issues and applications Fills in the practical hands-on information gap not covered in the regulatory standards

Download or read book The Engineer's Guide to Plant Layout and Piping Design for the Oil and Gas Industries written by Geoff B. Barker and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-25 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Engineer’s Guide to Plant Layout and Piping Design for the Oil and Gas Industries gives pipeline engineers and plant managers a critical real-world reference to design, manage, and implement safe and effective plants and piping systems for today’s operations. This book fills a training void with complete and practical understanding of the requirements and procedures for producing a safe, economical, operable and maintainable process facility. Easy to understand for the novice, this guide includes critical standards, newer designs, practical checklists and rules of thumb. Due to a lack of structured training in academic and technical institutions, engineers and pipe designers today may understand various computer software programs but lack the fundamental understanding and implementation of how to lay out process plants and run piping correctly in the oil and gas industry. Starting with basic terms, codes and basis for selection, the book focuses on each piece of equipment, such as pumps, towers, underground piping, pipe sizes and supports, then goes on to cover piping stress analysis and the daily needed calculations to use on the job. Delivers a practical guide to pipe supports, structures and hangers available in one go-to source Includes information on stress analysis basics, quick checks, pipe sizing and pressure drop Ensures compliance with the latest piping and plant layout codes and complies with worldwide risk management legislation and HSE Focuses on each piece of equipment, such as pumps, towers, underground piping, pipe sizes and supports Covers piping stress analysis and the daily needed calculations to use on the job
