Book Synopsis Production, Perception, and Phonotactic Patterns by : Alexei Kochetov
Download or read book Production, Perception, and Phonotactic Patterns written by Alexei Kochetov and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 2002. Production, Perception and Phontactic Patterns presents the first experimental study of articulatory dynamics of Russian and of secondary articulents in general, with a special focus on the nature of positional markedness scales, one of the key concepts in the current phonological theory (Optimality Theory). Through a series of experiments the author questions the traditional assumption that positional markedness scales are directly encoded in Universal Grammar and provides an alternative account based on gestural recoverability. This study combines a sophisticated and in-depth analysis of language-particular phonetic detail with wide cross-linguistic generalisations and contributes to the increasingly influential body of research that investigates phonetic factors in the search for explanations of phonological universals.

Book Synopsis Guernica and Other Plays by : Fernando Arrabal
Download or read book Guernica and Other Plays written by Fernando Arrabal and published by Grove Press. This book was released on 1994-02-24 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The celebrated Spanish playwright Fernando Arrabal, who lived in Madrid under the oppression of the Franco regime, writes passionately of human atrocity and of hope. This collection of plays embodies Arrabal's "theatre of panic," named after the god Pan. The homme panique is a man who refuses to take risks, who avoids danger and therefore heroism, who avoids the irreparable act, but who, ironically, is caught up in a world of chance that forces him to make choices. The collection includes Guernica, an earthy verbal re-creation of Picasso's famous painting, in which an old Basque couple is caught in the air raids; And They Put Handcuffs on the Flowers, a violent protest against the Franco regime; the ingenious and poetic The Architect and the Emperor of Assyria; and Garden of Delights, which explores the lesbian tendencies of strong adoles-cent attachments and the sadomasochistic experience of adult love. Includes: 'Guernica' 'And They Put Handcuffs on the Flowers' 'The Architect and the Emperor of Assyria' 'Garden of Delights'

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Get help from expert scholars in understanding the scriptures. What does That verse mean? How should I interpret this passage? What is the significance of this word or phrase in Hebrew or Aramaic? How do Bible-time customs help me understand the meaning of this passage? How does the information on the author, historical background, and features of a Bible book help interpret that book? The Bible Knowledge Commentary answers these and other questions about the Scriptures, discussing all the Bible verse by verse and often phrase by phrase. In addition, maps, charts, and diagrams help you grasp the meanings of the biblical text. Unlike most others this commentary is by authors from one school - Dallas Theological Seminary. The Bible Knowledge Commentary -- popular in style and scholarly in content -- will deepen your understanding of God's written Word. The Bible Knowledge Commentary will be welcomed by a wide spectrum of Bible students, from the beginner, who will find it easy to understand and easy to use, to the advanced, who will find it consistently thorough and reliable. The readable style, combined with careful scholarship, make this a Bible study aid I and others will add to our "most-used" shelf of books. At last, a commentary we can all believe in. Sunday school teachers and many others at our church will find The Bible Knowledge Commentary extremely helpful. - Publisher.
