Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third edition of this well known text continues to provide a solid foundation in mathematical analysis for undergraduate and first-year graduate students. The text begins with a discussion of the real number system as a complete ordered field. (Dedekind's construction is now treated in an appendix to Chapter I.) The topological background needed for the development of convergence, continuity, differentiation and integration is provided in Chapter 2. There is a new section on the gamma function, and many new and interesting exercises are included. This text is part of the Walter Rudin Student Series in Advanced Mathematics.

Download or read book Analysis I written by Terence Tao and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-08-29 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is part one of a two-volume book on real analysis and is intended for senior undergraduate students of mathematics who have already been exposed to calculus. The emphasis is on rigour and foundations of analysis. Beginning with the construction of the number systems and set theory, the book discusses the basics of analysis (limits, series, continuity, differentiation, Riemann integration), through to power series, several variable calculus and Fourier analysis, and then finally the Lebesgue integral. These are almost entirely set in the concrete setting of the real line and Euclidean spaces, although there is some material on abstract metric and topological spaces. The book also has appendices on mathematical logic and the decimal system. The entire text (omitting some less central topics) can be taught in two quarters of 25–30 lectures each. The course material is deeply intertwined with the exercises, as it is intended that the student actively learn the material (and practice thinking and writing rigorously) by proving several of the key results in the theory.

Book Synopsis A First Course in Real Analysis by : Sterling K. Berberian
Download or read book A First Course in Real Analysis written by Sterling K. Berberian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-10 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematics is the music of science, and real analysis is the Bach of mathematics. There are many other foolish things I could say about the subject of this book, but the foregoing will give the reader an idea of where my heart lies. The present book was written to support a first course in real analysis, normally taken after a year of elementary calculus. Real analysis is, roughly speaking, the modern setting for Calculus, "real" alluding to the field of real numbers that underlies it all. At center stage are functions, defined and taking values in sets of real numbers or in sets (the plane, 3-space, etc.) readily derived from the real numbers; a first course in real analysis traditionally places the emphasis on real-valued functions defined on sets of real numbers. The agenda for the course: (1) start with the axioms for the field ofreal numbers, (2) build, in one semester and with appropriate rigor, the foun dations of calculus (including the "Fundamental Theorem"), and, along the way, (3) develop those skills and attitudes that enable us to continue learning mathematics on our own. Three decades of experience with the exercise have not diminished my astonishment that it can be done.
Book Synopsis The Way of Analysis by : Robert S. Strichartz
Download or read book The Way of Analysis written by Robert S. Strichartz and published by Jones & Bartlett Learning. This book was released on 2000 with total page 764 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Way of Analysis gives a thorough account of real analysis in one or several variables, from the construction of the real number system to an introduction of the Lebesgue integral. The text provides proofs of all main results, as well as motivations, examples, applications, exercises, and formal chapter summaries. Additionally, there are three chapters on application of analysis, ordinary differential equations, Fourier series, and curves and surfaces to show how the techniques of analysis are used in concrete settings.
Book Synopsis A Primer of Lebesgue Integration by : H. S. Bear
Download or read book A Primer of Lebesgue Integration written by H. S. Bear and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lebesgue integral is now standard for both applications and advanced mathematics. This books starts with a review of the familiar calculus integral and then constructs the Lebesgue integral from the ground up using the same ideas. A Primer of Lebesgue Integration has been used successfully both in the classroom and for individual study. Bear presents a clear and simple introduction for those intent on further study in higher mathematics. Additionally, this book serves as a refresher providing new insight for those in the field. The author writes with an engaging, commonsense style that appeals to readers at all levels.

Book Synopsis Mathematics for Machine Learning by : Marc Peter Deisenroth
Download or read book Mathematics for Machine Learning written by Marc Peter Deisenroth and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-04-23 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fundamental mathematical tools needed to understand machine learning include linear algebra, analytic geometry, matrix decompositions, vector calculus, optimization, probability and statistics. These topics are traditionally taught in disparate courses, making it hard for data science or computer science students, or professionals, to efficiently learn the mathematics. This self-contained textbook bridges the gap between mathematical and machine learning texts, introducing the mathematical concepts with a minimum of prerequisites. It uses these concepts to derive four central machine learning methods: linear regression, principal component analysis, Gaussian mixture models and support vector machines. For students and others with a mathematical background, these derivations provide a starting point to machine learning texts. For those learning the mathematics for the first time, the methods help build intuition and practical experience with applying mathematical concepts. Every chapter includes worked examples and exercises to test understanding. Programming tutorials are offered on the book's web site.
Book Synopsis An Interactive Introduction to Mathematical Analysis Paperback with CD-ROM by : Jonathan Lewin
Download or read book An Interactive Introduction to Mathematical Analysis Paperback with CD-ROM written by Jonathan Lewin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-01-13 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a rigorous course in the calculus of functions of a real variable. Its gentle approach, particularly in its early chapters, makes it especially suitable for students who are not headed for graduate school but, for those who are, this book also provides the opportunity to engage in a penetrating study of real analysis. The companion onscreen version of this text contains hundreds of links to alternative approaches, more complete explanations and solutions to exercises; links that make it more friendly than any printed book could be. In addition, there are links to a wealth of optional material that an instructor can select for a more advanced course, and that students can use as a reference long after their first course has ended. The on-screen version also provides exercises that can be worked interactively with the help of the computer algebra systems that are bundled with Scientific Notebook.
