Book Synopsis Connectionist Natural Language Processing by : Noel Sharkey
Download or read book Connectionist Natural Language Processing written by Noel Sharkey and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Connection science is a new information-processing paradigm which attempts to imitate the architecture and process of the brain, and brings together researchers from disciplines as diverse as computer science, physics, psychology, philosophy, linguistics, biology, engineering, neuroscience and AI. Work in Connectionist Natural Language Processing (CNLP) is now expanding rapidly, yet much of the work is still only available in journals, some of them quite obscure. To make this research more accessible this book brings together an important and comprehensive set of articles from the journal CONNECTION SCIENCE which represent the state of the art in Connectionist natural language processing; from speech recognition to discourse comprehension. While it is quintessentially Connectionist, it also deals with hybrid systems, and will be of interest to both theoreticians as well as computer modellers. Range of topics covered: Connectionism and Cognitive Linguistics Motion, Chomsky's Government-binding Theory Syntactic Transformations on Distributed Representations Syntactic Neural Networks A Hybrid Symbolic/Connectionist Model for Understanding of Nouns Connectionism and Determinism in a Syntactic Parser Context Free Grammar Recognition Script Recognition with Hierarchical Feature Maps Attention Mechanisms in Language Script-Based Story Processing A Connectionist Account of Similarity in Vowel Harmony Learning Distributed Representations Connectionist Language Users Representation and Recognition of Temporal Patterns A Hybrid Model of Script Generation Networks that Learn about Phonological Features Pronunciation in Text-to-Speech Systems

Book Synopsis Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites by : C. Ageorges
Download or read book Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites written by C. Ageorges and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fusion bonding is one of the three methods available for joining composite and dissimilar materials. While the other two, mechanical fastening and adhesion bonding, have been the subject of wide coverage both in textbooks and monographs, fusion bonding is covered here substantially for the first time. Fusion bonding offers a number of advantages over traditional joining techniques and it is anticipated that its use will increase dramatically in the future because of the rise in the use of thermoplastic matrix composites and the growing necessity for recyclability of engineering assemblies. Fusion Bonding of Polymer Composites provides an in-depth understanding of the physical mechanisms involved in the fusion bonding process, covering such topics as: - heat transfer in fusion bonding; - modelling thermal degradation; - consolidation mechanisms; - crystallisation kinetics; - processing-microstructure-property relationship; - full-scale fusion bonding; - fusion bonding of thermosetting composite/thermoplastic composite and metal/thermoplastic joints. The book focuses on one practical case study using the resistance welding process. This example exposes the reader to the development of processing windows for a novel manufacturing process including the use of experimental test programmes and modelling strategies.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Methods and Modelling in Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production by : Armin Iske
Download or read book Mathematical Methods and Modelling in Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production written by Armin Iske and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-27 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrocarbon exploration and production incorporate great technology challenges for the oil and gas industry. In order to meet the world's future demand for oil and gas, further technological advance is needed, which in turn requires research across multiple disciplines, including mathematics, geophysics, geology, petroleum engineering, signal processing, and computer science. This book addresses important aspects and fundamental concepts in hydrocarbon exploration and production. Moreover, new developments and recent advances in the relevant research areas are discussed, whereby special emphasis is placed on mathematical methods and modelling. The book reflects the multi-disciplinary character of the hydrocarbon production workflow, ranging from seismic data imaging, seismic analysis and interpretation and geological model building, to numerical reservoir simulation. Various challenges concerning the production workflow are discussed in detail. The thirteen chapters of this joint work, authored by international experts from academic and industrial institutions, include survey papers of expository character as well as original research articles. Large parts of the material presented in this book were developed between November 2000 and April 2004 through the European research and training network NetAGES, "Network for Automated Geometry Extraction from Seismic". The new methods described here are currently being implemented as software tools at Schlumberger Stavanger Research, one of the world's largest service providers to the oil industry.

Book Synopsis Particles in Gases and Liquids 2 by : K.L. Mittal
Download or read book Particles in Gases and Liquids 2 written by K.L. Mittal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book chronicles the proceedings of the Second Symposium on Particles in Gases and Liquids: Detection, Characterization and Control held as a part of the 20th Annual Fine Particle Society meeting in Boston, August 21-25, 1989. As this second symposium was as successful as the prior one, so we have decided to hold symposia on this topic on a regular (biennial) basis and the third symposium in this series is scheduled to be held at the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Fine Particle Society in San Jose, California, July 29-August 2, 1991. l As pointed out in the Preface to the prior volume in this series that recently there has been tremendous concern about yield losses due to unwanted particles, and these unwelcome particles can originate from a legion of sources, including process gases and liquids. Also all signals indicate that in the future manufacture of sophisticated and sensitive microelectronic components (with shrinking dimensions) and other precision parts, the need for detection, characterization, analysis and control of smaller and smaller particles will be more intensified.
Book Synopsis Polypropylene Structure, blends and Composites by : J. Karger-Kocsis
Download or read book Polypropylene Structure, blends and Composites written by J. Karger-Kocsis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although polypropylene has been marketed since the 1950s, research and development in this area is still vigorous. The consumption of polypropylene over the years has been relatively high, mainly due to the steady improvement of its property profile. Polypropylene: Structures, Blends and Composites, in three separate volumes, reflects on the key factors which have contributed to the success of polypropylene, dealing with all aspects of structure-performance relationships relevant to thermoplastic polymers and related composites. Volume 1, Structure and Morphology, deals with polymorphism in polypropylene homo- and copolymers, where molecular and supermolecular structures are covered, and the processing-induced structure development of polypropylene, showing the interrelation between the processing-induced morphology and mechanical performance. Volume 2, Copolymers and Blends, contains comprehensive surveys of the nucleation and crystallisation behaviour of the related systems. It includes the development of morphology and its effects on rheological and mechanical properties of polypropylene-based alloys and blends and a review of polypropylene-based thermoplastic elastomers. Volume 3, Composites, gives a comprehensive overview of filled and reinforced systems with polypropylene as a matrix material, with the main emphasis on processing-structure-property-interrelationships. Chapters cover all aspects of particulate filled, chopped fibre-, fibre mat- and continuous fibre-reinforced composites. Interfacial phenomena, such as adhesion, wetting and interfacial crystallisation, are also included as important aspects of this subject.
