Book Synopsis Asset-Building Policies and Innovations in Asia by : Michael Sherraden
Download or read book Asset-Building Policies and Innovations in Asia written by Michael Sherraden and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-11-20 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Asia has long been a testing ground for efforts to augment financial and social security by developing assets that may support individuals and households and contribute to long-term social development. Rapid growth in the number and breadth of asset-based social policies has prompted Asian scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to share lessons from current efforts and chart future directions. This book offers a unique collection of macro- and micro-level analyses on asset-based social development and compares and contrasts national social policies across the Asia Pacific region. Many asset-building policies and programmes have been undertaken in Asia, and innovative proposals continue to emerge. The contributions in this book present and assess this broad, often nuanced, and evolving landscape, and offer an insightful analysis of the evolution of asset-building policies, innovative programmes in rural populations, asset-based interventions to facilitate the development and well-being of children, as well as case studies on new, ground-breaking asset-building projects. Asset-Building Policies and Innovation in Asia will be an invaluable resource for students and scholars of Asian social policy, social welfare, social development and social work.
Book Synopsis Social Welfare East and West by : John F Doling
Download or read book Social Welfare East and West written by John F Doling and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: An exploration of the ways in which social welfare in two countries, half a world apart, may have similarities. Through identification of the differences and similarities of social welfare in Britain and Malaysia, the editors hope that we may be able to learn from one another as well as to contribute to debates both in our countries about how to respond to globalization and about global social policy. Accordingly, the contributors arranged themselves into pairs - one Malaysian, one British - to write reviews of one of each of the six areas of social welfare. Along with an opening chapter in which the aim was to identify a number of frameworks and issues that would allow the rest to be put into a context, the 12 chapters, each restricted to around 5000 words, provide a service-by-service account.
Book Synopsis Pensions and Informal Sector in India by : Amlan Ghosh
Download or read book Pensions and Informal Sector in India written by Amlan Ghosh and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-08-03 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the pension of uncovered people in India, the informal or unorganized sector workers who contribute more than fifty percent of India’s total output. Until recently, these workers don’t get any old age security when they retire unlike those from the organized sector workers such as govt. employees or corporates. This book offers insights on the pension system of the informal sector in India. The book is the outcome of field research of two years and the field research was conducted on MSME sector (a sub sector of unorganised sector) which provides the knowledge about the present state of the unorganised sector workers in MSMEs, their financial condition and stress, their work participation, their awareness level of old age financial security or pension and their financial behaviour regarding pension savings in India. This book empirically demonstrates a relationship between financial literacy and willingness to save for retirement benefits among the informal sector workers in India. Access to banking also improves the probability of retirement savings along with the gender and education. By reading this book, readers can understand the demographic change India is going to witness within the next thirty years and its challenges to meet the longevity risk of these workers.

Book Synopsis Implementing an Inclusive and Equitable Pension Reform by : Cheolsu Kim
Download or read book Implementing an Inclusive and Equitable Pension Reform written by Cheolsu Kim and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India is ageing. One response of Indian policy makers has been introduction of the New Pension Scheme (NPS), a defined contribution pension scheme which is mandatory for civil servants and voluntary for the rest of the population. Given the size of the target population, even if take-up is modest, NPS savings may soon provide huge amounts of capital to India's economy. However, challenges are abound. What governance structure will best achieve the ultimate policy goal of serving the needs of savers? What business processes and information technology design will serve members best? How effectively will the NPS attack the problem of old-age poverty? In this book, a multi-disciplinary international team, comprising of economists, lawyers, pension management experts, and capital market experts, explore these and other questions. The book proposes significant legal, regulatory, and governance reforms for the NPS and other existing pension schemes, as well. It finds that current NPS business practices cannot keep pace with potential growth of the system and makes suggestions on how to take better advantage of information technology. Based on review of experience elsewhere and state-of-the-art economic-demographic modelling, it warns that the NPS in its current form does not address the retirement income needs of the lifelong very poor, suggesting that it is only one in a range of responses needed to cope with the challenges of population ageing in India.
