Book Synopsis The Academy of Management Annals by : James P. Walsh
Download or read book The Academy of Management Annals written by James P. Walsh and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2007 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Academy of Management is proud to announce the inaugural volume of The Academy of Management Annals. This exciting new series follows one guiding principle: The advancement of knowledge is possible only by conducting a thorough examination of what is known and unknown in a given field. Such assessments can be accomplished through comprehensive, critical reviews of the literature--crafted by informed scholars who determine when a line of inquiry has gone astray, and how to steer the research back onto the proper path. The Academy of Management Annals provide just such essential reviews. Written by leading management scholars, the reviews are invaluable for ensuring the timeliness of advanced courses, for designing new investigative approaches, and for identifying faulty methodological or conceptual assumptions. The Annals strive each year to synthesize a vast array of primary research, recognizing past principal contributions while illuminating potential future avenues of inquiry. Volume 1 of the Annals explores a wide spectrum of research: corporate control; nonstandard employment; critical management; physical work environments; public administration team learning; emotions in organizations; leadership and health care; creativity at work; business and the environment; and bias in performance appraisals. Ultimately, academic scholars in management and allied fields (e.g., sociology of organizations and organizational psychology) will see The Academy of Management Annals as a valuable resource to turn to for comprehensive, up-to-date information--published in a single volume every year by the preeminent association for management research.

The commonality between e-commerce and collaborative consumption being that they both occur online and rely predominantly on platforms. The Handbook of Research on the Platform Economy and the Evolution of E-Commerce is a comprehensive reference book offering a holistic perspective of the platform economy by connecting the e-commerce and collaborative economy streams into a common framework. As such, this integrated perspective offers a clearer understanding of the key trends in research and in managerial action, as well as an agenda for future studies and practice. This handbook emphasizes how the digital transition will create an increased merging between physical and digital activities, as well as the challenges and opportunities pertaining to this trend. Covering topics including sharing economy, Marketing 4.0, and digital applications, this book is essential for marketers, managers, executives, students, researchers, and academicians.
Book Synopsis The Palgrave Handbook of Operations Research by : Saïd Salhi
Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of Operations Research written by Saïd Salhi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-07-07 with total page 923 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Operations Research (OR) is a fast-evolving field, which is having a significant impact on its neighbouring disciplines of Business Analytics and Data Science, and on contemporary business and management practices. This handbook provides a comprehensive and cutting edge collection of studies in the area. Views differ on what should be included within the scope of OR. The editors of this volume have taken the view that an inclusive stance is the most helpful, both for theory and practice. Real-world problems often require consideration from both ‘softer’ and ‘harder’ perspectives and need consideration of both predictive and prescriptive problems. In accordance with this inclusive approach to OR, the book is divided into six parts, covering Discrete Optimization, Continuous Optimization, Heuristic Search Optimization, Forecasting, Simulation and Prediction, Problem Structuring and Behavioural OR, and finally some recent OR Applications. This wide-ranging handbook includes a culturally diverse collection of authors, with different perspectives and backgrounds around Operations Research. It will be of tremendous value to researchers, students and practitioners in the field of OR

Book Synopsis Scheduling and Control of Queueing Networks by : Gideon Weiss
Download or read book Scheduling and Control of Queueing Networks written by Gideon Weiss and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-10-14 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications of queueing network models have multiplied in the last generation, including scheduling of large manufacturing systems, control of patient flow in health systems, load balancing in cloud computing, and matching in ride sharing. These problems are too large and complex for exact solution, but their scale allows approximation. This book is the first comprehensive treatment of fluid scaling, diffusion scaling, and many-server scaling in a single text presented at a level suitable for graduate students. Fluid scaling is used to verify stability, in particular treating max weight policies, and to study optimal control of transient queueing networks. Diffusion scaling is used to control systems in balanced heavy traffic, by solving for optimal scheduling, admission control, and routing in Brownian networks. Many-server scaling is studied in the quality and efficiency driven Halfin–Whitt regime and applied to load balancing in the supermarket model and to bipartite matching in ride-sharing applications.
