Book Synopsis Pride and Prejudice (Shavian alphabet edition) by : Jane Austen
Download or read book Pride and Prejudice (Shavian alphabet edition) written by Jane Austen and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-05-25 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Jane Austen's classic novel Pride and Prejudice as you've never seen it before-in the Shavian alphabet. The alphabet takes its name from Irish writer Bernard Shaw who inspired and posthumously funded it. Shaw believed there should be a simpler way to write English. His wish was fulfilled in 1962 following a worldwide competition. The result was a bespoke alphabet for English, with a unique letter for each of the 40 or so basic sounds we all use today. Whether you view this book as a linguistic curiosity, an eccentricexperiment, or as inspiration to explore the possibilities of spellingreform, it shows one thing: English spelling does not have to remain trapped in the Middle Ages. There is no better way to get to know this curious alphabet with its colourful history than by reading one of the best novels in the English language. At the very least, it may help answer one question: how do you pronounce Georgiana?
Book Synopsis Poe Meets Shaw: The Condensed Shaw Alphabet Edition of Edgar Allan Poe by : Tim Browne
Download or read book Poe Meets Shaw: The Condensed Shaw Alphabet Edition of Edgar Allan Poe written by Tim Browne and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-12-28 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As you're undoubtedly aware, English is a highly non-phonetic language. So determined was he to change this, George Bernard Shaw would not give up even in death. Instead he proposed a contest in his will to make a 100%% phonetic English alphabet. The contest was held, the alphabet was created and his play Androcles and the Lion was converted to the new alphabet. Instead of spreading far and wide, it sadly died a quiet death... until now. In this work you'll find many examples of Poe's genius. Most know him only as the father of modern horror, not knowing that he also wrote love poetry, science fiction, science fact, plays, book reviews and a documentary on how he wrote The Raven. Now, for the first time ever, you can enjoy Edgar Allan Poe as you've never seen him before... in 100%% phonetic English. NOTE: This special condensed edition is primarily intended for people who are already experienced with the Shaw Alphabet and are fully aware of its advantages over our current spelling system.

Download or read book Classics of Men's Rights: Condensed Shaw Alphabet Edition written by Tim Browne and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the feminist movement, we're living in an "oppressive patriarchy" which keeps women down and benefits men. What if this story that we've been told repeatedly over the past 50 years isn't true? What if, instead, women have actually been part of a privileged class for centuries? In this book, you'll find many examples, such as the suffragettes who attempted to burn down the theatre at Dublin and were sentenced to the "hard labour" of... knitting, and the lady who walked after she murdered her husband and child, then gained the mercy of the court with the claim that she was "a childless widow, all alone in the world"! Now, for the first time ever, you can read about the struggle for gender equality as never before... not only from the man's point of view, but in 100%% phonetic English. NOTE: this version is almost entirely written in the Shaw Alphabet at a reduced font size and is intended for people who are already well aware of its advantages over our current spelling system.

Download or read book TeX, XML, and Digital Typography written by Apostolos Syropoulos and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-11-12 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers that were accepted for presentation at the International Conference on T X, XML, and Digital Typography, jointly held with E the 25th Annual Meeting of the T X Users Group in Xanthi, Greece in the sum- E mer of 2004. The term "Digital Typography" refers to the preparation of printed matter using only electronic computers and electronic printing devices, such as laser-jet printers. The document preparation process involves mainly the use of a digital typesetting system as well as data representation technologies. TXand E its offspring are beyond doubt the most successful current digital typesetters, while XML is the standard for text-based data representation for both business and scientific activities. All papers appearing in this volume were fully refereed by the members of the program committee. The papers were carefully selected to reflect the research work that is being done in the field of digital typography using T X and/or its E o?spring. The problems for which comprehensive solutions have been proposed include proper multilingual document preparation and XML document processing and generation. The proposed solutions deal not simply with typesetting issues, but also related issues in document preparation, such as the manipulation of complex bibliographic databases, and automatic conversion of text expressed in one grammatical system to a more recent one (as for the Greek language, converting between monotonic Greek and polytonic Greek). The conference is being graciously hosted by the Democritus University of Thrace in Xanthi and by the Greek T X Friends. We wish to thank Basil K
