Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dante Passoni, the long awaited Italian counterpart to James Bond, is a man of this century, not a relic of the cold war. He embodies the dynamism of the high-tech world rather than the public corpse of England's MI-6. Dante is as dashing as James in his prime, as charming as Italy herself, as bold and fearless as we imagine ourselves to be. Passoni brings nail-biting suspense, fun and fresh air wherever he goes. If you love Italy, its food, drink, cars and women; if you love adventure and romance touched by an occasional whiff of the outrageous; if you're in need of something legal that will quicken your pulse and reignite your senses . . . Save Italy! is for you.

Download or read book Start With Me written by Michael Seaton and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: C2, Zondervan, and World Vision are teaming together on the most ambitious and ecumenical curriculum promoting Christian social responsibility and justice ever conceived. A topic that has been building a great deal of buzz within the ranks of Church leadership, but has not yet ignited as an action based movement among North American Christians. That’s 77 million potential Good Samaritans sitting in the pews. And the time is now. The people are ready. The market is ready for the book, START – becoming a Good Samaritan.START’s headliner curriculum (list attached) brings together topical experts, theologians, mega-church pastors, front-line workers, victims, encouragers, and even “unknowns” to offer a complete picture of the problem and a practical understanding of how to be a Good Samaritan right now, right where each of us lives. We are all too painfully aware that the Church today is not known as Good Samaritans. We’re known more as the Priest or the Levite from the story – or worse. Rick Warren put his finger on the aching need for this curriculum and book when he said, “It’s time for a second reformation, not one of theology, but of works.”

Download or read book Radio Benjamin written by Walter Benjamin and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walter Benjamin was fascinated by the impact of new technology on culture, an interest that extended beyond his renowned critical essays. From 1927 to '33, he wrote and presented something in the region of eighty broadcasts using the new medium of radio. Radio Benjamin gathers the surviving transcripts, which appear here for the first time in English. This eclectic collection demonstrates the range of Benjamin's thinking and his enthusiasm for popular sensibilities. His celebrated "Enlightenment for Children" youth programs, his plays, readings, book reviews, and fiction reveal Benjamin in a creative, rather than critical, mode. They flesh out ideas elucidated in his essays, some of which are also represented here, where they cover topics as varied as getting a raise and the history of natural disasters, subjects chosen for broad appeal and examined with passion and acuity. Delightful and incisive, this is Walter Benjamin channeling his sophisticated thinking to a wide audience, allowing us to benefit from a new voice for one of the twentieth century's most respected thinkers.

Download or read book Scripture as Logos written by Azzan Yadin and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2013-06-15 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of midrash—the biblical exegesis, parables, and anecdotes of the Rabbis—has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years. Most recent scholarship, however, has focused on the aggadic or narrative midrash, while halakhic or legal midrash—the exegesis of biblical law—has received relatively little attention. In Scripture as Logos, Azzan Yadin addresses this long-standing need, examining early, tannaitic (70-200 C.E.) legal midrash, focusing on the interpretive tradition associated with the figure of Rabbi Ishmael. This is a sophisticated study of midrashic hermeneutics, growing out of the observation that the Rabbi Ishmael midrashim contain a dual personification of Scripture, which is referred to as both "torah" and "ha-katuv." It is Yadin's significant contribution to note that the two terms are not in fact synonymous but rather serve as metonymies for Sinai on the one hand and, on the other, the rabbinic house of study, the bet midrash. Yadin develops this insight, ultimately presenting the complex but highly coherent interpretive ideology that underlies these rabbinic texts, an ideology that—contrary to the dominant view today—seeks to minimize the role of the rabbinic reader by presenting Scripture as actively self-interpretive. Moving beyond textual analysis, Yadin then locates the Rabbi Ishmael hermeneutic within the religious landscape of Second Temple and post-Temple literature. The result is a series of surprising connections between these rabbinic texts and Wisdom literature, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the Church Fathers, all of which lead to a radical rethinking of the origins of rabbinic midrash and, indeed, of the Rabbis as a whole.
