Download or read book Triple Talaq written by Salman Khurshid and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-01-25 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Triple talaq, or talaq-e-bidat, is one of the most debated issues in the Muslim world. From antiquity, the Muslim faith has been plagued by the portrayal of Muslim men regularly misusing this perceived “right” to divorce their wives instantly by simply uttering “talaq” thrice. The Supreme Court of India, in the landmark judgment of Shayara Bano v. Union of India, has taken the step to declare this form of talaq unconstitutional and to strike down its practice. In Triple Talaq: Examining Faith, Salman Khurshid, who intervened to offer the court an amicus brief in the “Triple Talaq case”, offers a straightforward yet comprehensive overview of this complicated issue. Explaining the reasons behind the court’s decision, he dives deep into other aspects of this practice: why it is wrong; why it has thrived; what was the judicial history of this issue; what the Quran and Muslim religious leaders say about it; and what the comparative practices in other countries are. A handy guide to this landmark decision and what it means for Muslims in India, this book is written not just for the theologian, but also for the common reader.

Book excerpt: No longer should any Quran reader be deprived of the beautiful meaning of The Holy Quran as they read it just because they don't speak Arabic. Nothing is more satisfying than understanding the meaning of the Quran as you read it without going to its translation. For the first time and for those who can read Quran in Arabic at an introductory level, a successful method for learning the meaning of The Quran without a need to learn the complex Arabic language is presented in a series of books. The approach is based on the "major words" used in Quran. The students or self-learners, through exercises and easy-to-understand introductory grammars, learn the "major words" used in Quran. For instance, upon completion of Book 1, the students can understand 40% of the meaning of Quran by learning only 110 words which are used 30,000 times in Quran. The author taught the first three books in this series a few times as a test. The results were just amazing and spectacular all the way!! All his students were quite uplifted by how much they could understand when they read Quran upon completion of only the first book.

Book Synopsis Islam, Women's Sexuality and Patriarchy in Indonesia by : Irma Riyani
Download or read book Islam, Women's Sexuality and Patriarchy in Indonesia written by Irma Riyani and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the intimate marital relationships of Indonesian Muslim married women. As well as describing and analysing their sexual relationships, the book also investigates how Islam influences discourses of sexuality in Indonesia, and in particular how Islamic teachings affect Muslim married women’s perceptions and behaviour in their sexual relationships with their husbands. Based on extensive original research, the book reveals that Muslim women perceive marriage as a social, cultural, and religious obligation that they need to fulfil; that they realise that finding an ideal marriage partner is complicated, with some having the opportunity for a long courtship and others barely knowing their partner prior to marriage; and that there is a strong tendency, with some exceptions, for women to consider a sexual relationship in marriage as their duty and their husband’s right. Religious and cultural discourses justify and support this view and consider refusal a sin (dosa) or taboo (pamali). Both discourses emphasise obedience towards husbands in marriage.

One of the most pivotal works for understanding the environment that influenced the development of Qur'anic exegesis, this volume--originally written by Abdullah Ibn 'Abbas and Ibn Ya'qub al-Firuzabadi--offers valuable insight into the circulation and exchange of popular ideas between Islam, Judaism, and Christianity during the formative phase of Islamic exegesis. In addition, the work avoids elaborate theological, philosophical, and grammatical explanations, making it easily accessible to nonspecialists.
Book Synopsis Al - Hidayah (The Guidance) by : Burhan Ad-Din Al-Farghani Al-Marghinani
Download or read book Al - Hidayah (The Guidance) written by Burhan Ad-Din Al-Farghani Al-Marghinani and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hidayah has dominated the field of Islamic jurisprudence since the day it was written over 800 years ago. It has been the primary text used by Muslims jurist to issue authentic and reliable rulings on Islamic law according to the school of Imam Abu Hanifa (d 150H/767CE). The Hidayah commands such an authoritative position amongst the doctors of law that the knowledge of a scholar who has not read it is not considered reliable. It has been a standard text in the curricula of Islamic law schools since the 12th century. It was first translated into English by Charles Hamilton in 1791. Around 70 huge commentaries, some spread over more than a dozen volumes have been written on it. The number of explanatory glosses is in thousands. Comprehensive in content and conveniently organized, with the publication of this all previous works that discussed Islamic jurisprudence according to the Hanafi law become outmoded and soon fell into disuse. If revealed books are not taken into account, never has a book received so much attention as the Hidayah. This landmark publication of the Hidayah not only has been translated in its entirety for the first time but has been done so from Arabic, the language in which it was written. The author, Shaykh Al Islam, Burhan Al-Din Marghanani (d 593 AH/ 1197 CE) was considered to be the leading jurist of the Muslim world in his times. "The hidayah is justly celebrated as the most practical and useful summary compilation of Hanafi jurisprudence. It has been a standard text in the curricula of Islamic law schools since the 12th century. It was first translated by Charles Hamilton in 1791. A new translation into modern English has been long overdue. This translation by Imran Ahsan Khan Nyazee is both precise and straight forward. With his knowledge of Islamic law and jurispudence combined with his command of both the Arabic and English languages, he has conveyed the meaning of the original with great clarity. The hidayah is a dense work, intended for use in teaching Hanafi fiqh - it is a work that needs explication if its arguments are to be understood fully. This the translator has provided through this valuable notes" Dr Mohammad Akram Nadwi, research fellow, Oxford centre for Islamic studies, Oxford
