Book Synopsis A Comparison of Rotation-by-dwelling Versus Rotation-by-cluster in the Canadian Labour Force Survey by : Diane Stukel
Download or read book A Comparison of Rotation-by-dwelling Versus Rotation-by-cluster in the Canadian Labour Force Survey written by Diane Stukel and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Canadian Labour Force Survey (LFS) uses a sampling design based on six rotation groups. In any given month, one of the six groups is rotated out (called the death rotation) and replaced with a group consisting of new sample (called the birth rotation). Typically, a rotation group is defined in terms of geographically grouped households called clusters. From time to time, instability in estimates of change from one month to the next in employment and unemployment have been observed. These have been attributed to instability in estimates arising from the birth and death rotations (or clusters), and have put into question the current rotation-by-cluster design used by the LFS. An alternative design has been proposed, whereby rotation groups would be defined across clusters, in the hopes of spreading any instability at the cluster level across rotation groups. Ths paper describes the rotation-by-dwelling design and presents the results of a simulation using LFS data for two sets of consecutive months: June and July of 1996, and December 1995 and January 1996. Estimates of month-to-month change as well as measures of relative contributions coming from each rotation group are given under both methods, at both the province and Canada levels. Finally, some comments on the GREG versus composite estimator are given.
Book Synopsis Survey Methods and Practices by : Statistics Canada
Download or read book Survey Methods and Practices written by Statistics Canada and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication shows readers how to design and conduct a census or sample survey. It explains basic survey concepts and provides information on how to create efficient and high quality surveys. It is aimed at those involved in planning, conducting or managing a survey and at students of survey design courses. This book contains the following information: formulating the survey objectives and design a questionnaire; things to consider when designing a survey (choosing between a sample or a census, defining the survey population, choosing which survey frame to use, possible sources of survey error); determining the sample size, allocate the sample across strata and select the sample; appropriate uses of survey data and methods of point and variance estimation in data analysis; data dissemination and disclosure control; using administrative data, particularly during the design and estimation phases; choosing a collection method (self-enumeration, personal interview or telephone interview, computer-assisted versus paper-based questionnaires); organizing and conducting data collection operations; processing data (all data handling activities between collection and estimation) and using quality control and quality assurance measures to minimize and control errors during various survey steps; and planning and managing a survey. This publication also includes a case study that illustrates the steps in developing a household survey, using the methods and principles presented in the book.

Book Synopsis Longitudinal Data Analysis by : Jason Newsom
Download or read book Longitudinal Data Analysis written by Jason Newsom and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides accessible treatment to state-of-the-art approaches to analyzing longitudinal studies. Comprehensive coverage of the most popular analysis tools allows readers to pick and choose the techniques that best fit their research. The analyses are illustrated with examples from major longitudinal data sets including practical information about their content and design. Illustrations from popular software packages offer tips on how to interpret the results. Each chapter features suggested readings for additional study and a list of articles that further illustrate how to implement the analysis and report the results. Syntax examples for several software packages for each of the chapter examples are provided at www.psypress.com/longitudinal-data-analysis. Although many of the examples address health or social science questions related to aging, readers from other disciplines will find the analyses relevant to their work. In addition to demonstrating statistical analysis of longitudinal data, the book shows how to interpret and analyze the results within the context of the research design. The methods covered in this book are applicable to a range of applied problems including short- to long-term longitudinal studies using a range of sample sizes. The book provides non-technical, practical introductions to the concepts and issues relevant to longitudinal analysis. Topics include use of publicly available data sets, weighting and adjusting for complex sampling designs with longitudinal studies, missing data and attrition, measurement issues related to longitudinal research, the use of ANOVA and regression for average change over time, mediation analysis, growth curve models, basic and advanced structural equation models, and survival analysis. An ideal supplement for graduate level courses on data analysis and/or longitudinal modeling taught in psychology, gerontology, public health, human development, family studies, medicine, sociology, social work, and other behavioral, social, and health sciences, this multidisciplinary book will also appeal to researchers in these fields.
