Download or read book The Molecular Biology of Flowering written by Brian R. Jordan and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1993 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The transition from vegetative to reproductive growth is one of the most important developmental changes in plants. Although the physiology of the process has been well documented, the molecular basis has only recently begun to be determined. This book reviews our current knowledge of the molecular biology and genetics of flowering, a subject that is rapidly being recognized for both its fundamental importance and its biotechnological exploitation. It will interest research workers and advanced students in plant genetics and plant molecular biology.

Book Synopsis Stochastic Approaches for Systems Biology by : Mukhtar Ullah
Download or read book Stochastic Approaches for Systems Biology written by Mukhtar Ullah and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook focuses on stochastic analysis in systems biology containing both the theory and application. While the authors provide a review of probability and random variables, subsequent notions of biochemical reaction systems and the relevant concepts of probability theory are introduced side by side. This leads to an intuitive and easy-to-follow presentation of stochastic framework for modeling subcellular biochemical systems. In particular, the authors make an effort to show how the notion of propensity, the chemical master equation and the stochastic simulation algorithm arise as consequences of the Markov property. The text contains many illustrations, examples and exercises to illustrate the ideas and methods that are introduced. Matlab code is also provided where appropriate. Additionally, the cell cycle is introduced as a more complex case study. Senior undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and physics as well as researchers working in the area of systems biology, bioinformatics and related areas will find this text useful.
Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Flowering Time Control by : Christian Jung
Download or read book Recent Advances in Flowering Time Control written by Christian Jung and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2017-03-10 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The onset of flowering is an important step during the lifetime of a flowering plant. During the past two decades, there has been enormous progress in our understanding of how internal and external (environmental) cues control the transition to reproductive growth in plants. Many flowering time regulators have been identified from the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Most of them are assembled in regulatory pathways, which converge to central integrators which trigger the transition of the vegetative into an inflorescence meristem. For crop cultivation, the time of flowering is of upmost importance, because it determines yield. Phenotypic variation for this trait is largely controlled by genes, which were often modified during domestication or crop improvement. Understanding the genetic basis of flowering time regulation offers new opportunities for selection in plant breeding and for genome editing and genetic modification of crop species.

Book Synopsis Gene Expression Analysis During the Floral Transition in Arabidopsis Thaliana FT and LTP4 Double Mutant by : Ahmad Osama Alwazna
Download or read book Gene Expression Analysis During the Floral Transition in Arabidopsis Thaliana FT and LTP4 Double Mutant written by Ahmad Osama Alwazna and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The floral transition is the process by which plants switch from the vegetative to the reproductive phase. Arabidopsis thaliana is composed of a small genome and has a rapid life cycle; therefore, it's a suitable model for our study. Under long-day photoperiods (LD), the FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) gene is activated in the leaves, then FT protein is transported to the shoot apical meristem (SAM) where floral development is promoted. However, the exact mechanism is not clearly understood. Previous studies in our lab, revealed an increase in the lipid transfer proteins LTP3 and LTP4 expression in the leaf during the floral transition, suggesting a role for LTP3 and LTP4 as a potential flowering hormone transporter. Interestingly, when the former homologous genes were knocked down, a perennial phenotype was observed with growth resuming after senescence. To better understand the biological function of LTP4, we crossed FT mutant (ft-10) with our ltp4-RNAi generating a double mutant plant ( ft-10 ltp4). The double mutant displayed delayed flowering, up to seven and six months later compared to wild-type and ft-10, respectively. Additionally, Unusual phenotypes were observed such as bushy leaves and long bolts with few flowers at the tips. We hypothesized that LTP4 carries the flowering lipid along with FT; therefore, the exhibited phenotypes of our double mutant are due to a lack of a carrier that can move the lipid to the SAM. Here, we showed that LTP4 level is increased at the onset of bolting until 4 days after bolting (4DAB), while LTP3 peaked 4 days before bolting (4DBB) and 10DAB. Moreover, In the ltp4 mutant plants, the relative levels of the genes SUPPRESSOR OF OVEREXPRESSION OF CONSTANS 1 (SOC1) and FRUITFULL (FUL) transcripts were substantially increased after bolting in SAM and leaf, respectively.

Book Synopsis Photoperiodism in Plants by : Brian Thomas
Download or read book Photoperiodism in Plants written by Brian Thomas and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1996-10-17 with total page 445 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photoperiodism is the response to the length of the day that enables living organisms to adapt to seasonal changes in their environment as well as latitudinal variation. As such, it is one of the most significant andcomplex aspects of the interaction between plants and their environment and is a major factor controlling their growth and development. As the new and powerful technologies of molecular genetics are brought to bear on photoperiodism, it becomes particularly important to place new work in the context of the considerable amount of physiological information which already exists on the subject. This innovative book will be of interest to a wide range of plant scientists, from those interested in fundamental plant physiology and molecular biology to agronomists and crop physiologists. Provides a self-sufficient account of all the important subjects and key literature references for photoperiodism Includes research of the last twenty years since the publication of the First Edition Includes details of molecular genetic techniques brought to bear on photoperiodism
