Book excerpt: Cognitive radio – a paradigm for wireless communication in which either a network or a wireless node changes its transmission or reception parameters to communicate more efficiently and avoid interference -- is one of the most exciting emerging fields in communications technology. Taking an integrated development approach, this cutting-edge book provides you with clear methods for performing quantitative analysis of cognitive radio techniques in a variety of environments. This detailed reference presents a quantitative structure that helps you determine the capability of cognitive radio to address a number of constraints of current radio design. Critical to understanding the operation of cognitive radio, the book develops an analytic model for a range of spectrum environments. Moreover, this unique resource offers you unique insight into the application of dynamic spectrum access (DSA) to improve the performance of all classes of wireless devices. DVD Included! Contains sample cognitive radio environments and closed form approximations of these environments in MATLAB file format. This data enables you to reproduce the analysis provided in the book, perform the exercises in each chapter, and extend the work through independent investigation and research.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FORENSIC RADIO SURVEY TECHNIQUES FOR CELL SITE ANALYSIS Overview of the end-to-end process of planning, undertaking, and reporting of forensic radio surveying to support cell site analysis The newly updated and revised Second Edition of Forensic Radio Survey Techniques for Cell Site Analysis provides an overview of the end-to-end process of planning, undertaking, and reporting of forensic radio surveying to support the forensic discipline of cell site analysis. It starts by recapping and explaining, in an accessible way, the theory, structure, and operation of cellular communications networks, then moves on to describe the techniques and devices employed to undertake forensic radio surveys. Worked examples are used throughout to demonstrate the practical steps required to plan and undertake forensic radio surveys, including the methods used to analyze radio survey data and compile it into a court report. A summary section condenses the technical and practical elements of the book into a handy reference resource for busy practitioners. The Second Edition contains 25% brand new material covering 5G New Radio networks and ‘6G and beyond,’ critical communications, mobile satellite communications, IoT networks, Cell Site Analysis Tools, and much more. Other sample topics covered in Forensic Radio Survey Techniques for Cell Site Analysis include: Radio theory, covering RF propagation, basic terminology, propagation modes, multipath transmission, and carrying information on a radio signal Core networks, including 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, subscriber and device identifiers, and international and temporary mobile subscriber identities Cell access control, covering cell barring, forbidden LAC/TAC, location updating, inter- and intra-carrier handovers, and 3GPP network types Forensic radio surveys objectives, terminology, and types, along with location, static spot, and indoor surveys The Second Edition of Forensic Radio Survey Techniques for Cell Site Analysis is an essential reference on the subject for police analysts, practitioners, technicians, investigators, and cell site experts, along with legal professionals and students/trainees in digital forensics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The information presented in this report is a summarization of the activities and results of three tasks performed under this reliability program. These tasks included: (1) Review of Pertinent Documentation, (2) Test Program Monitoring, and (3) Cost of Ownership. Task 1 consisted of a critical analysis of pertinent documents and resulted in several recommendations for their improvement with citations of where conformance to specifications was either lacking or not explicit. The Task 2 activities included the presence of a BCL Monitor at RCA to observe and keep separate records of progress during the reliability demonstration test. Under Task 3 the cost of ownership for the AN/ARC-144 Command Radio Set and cost savings resulting from replacing the ARC-27 and ARC-34 radio sets with ARC-144 radio sets were estimated. In addition, life cycle costs for the ARC-144 radio set were computed for various procurement quantities, values of mean time between failure, average annual operating hours, and two life cycle periods. Computer Program Documentation for Cost Analysis in Accordance With AFLCM 66-18(C4), Chapter 15, was also prepared. Details of the results from a specific task may be found in the technical report for that task. (Author).

The authors discuss the development, modeling, design, and manufacture of ARM systems. Data from established and recent research are presented and recommendations are made on methods and approaches for solving common problems in ARM. The authors also provide classification and detailed descriptions of modern high-efficient hardware-software ARM equipment, including the equipment for detection, radio direction-finding, parameters measurement and their analysis, and the identification and localization of the electromagnetic field sources. Examples of ARM equipment structure, applications, and software are provided to manage a variety of complicated interference environment in the industrial centers, inside of the buildings, and in the open terrain. This book provides a reference for professionals and researchers interested in deploying ARM technology as a tool for solving problems from radio frequency spectrum usage control.
