Book Synopsis Algebraic Analysis of Singular Perturbation Theory by : Takahiro Kawai
Download or read book Algebraic Analysis of Singular Perturbation Theory written by Takahiro Kawai and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of this book is the study of singular perturbations of ordinary differential equations, i.e., perturbations that represent solutions as asymptotic series rather than as analytic functions in a perturbation parameter. The main method used is the so-called WKB (Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin) method, originally invented for the study of quantum-mechanical systems. The authors describe in detail the WKB method and its applications to the study of monodromy problems for Fuchsian differential equations and to the analysis of Painleve functions. This volume is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in differential equations and special functions.

Book Synopsis Microlocal Analysis and Complex Fourier Analysis by : Keiko Fujita
Download or read book Microlocal Analysis and Complex Fourier Analysis written by Keiko Fujita and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of original papers on microlocal analysis, Fourier analysis in the complex domain, generalized functions and related topics. Most of the papers originate from the talks given at the conference OC Prospects of Generalized FunctionsOCO (in November, 2001 at RIMS, Kyoto). Reflecting the fact that the papers, except M Morimoto''s one, are dedicated to Mitsuo Morimoto, the subjects considered in this book are interdisciplinary, just as Morimoto''s works are. The historical backgrounds of the subjects are also discussed in depth in some contributions. Thus, this book should be valuable not only to the specialists in the fields, but also to those who are interested in the history of modern mathematics such as distributions and hyperfunctions."
Book Synopsis Analytic, Algebraic and Geometric Aspects of Differential Equations by : Galina Filipuk
Download or read book Analytic, Algebraic and Geometric Aspects of Differential Equations written by Galina Filipuk and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2017-06-23 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume consists of invited lecture notes, survey papers and original research papers from the AAGADE school and conference held in Będlewo, Poland in September 2015. The contributions provide an overview of the current level of interaction between algebra, geometry and analysis and demonstrate the manifold aspects of the theory of ordinary and partial differential equations, while also pointing out the highly fruitful interrelations between those aspects. These interactions continue to yield new developments, not only in the theory of differential equations but also in several related areas of mathematics and physics such as differential geometry, representation theory, number theory and mathematical physics. The main goal of the volume is to introduce basic concepts, techniques, detailed and illustrative examples and theorems (in a manner suitable for non-specialists), and to present recent developments in the field, together with open problems for more advanced and experienced readers. It will be of interest to graduate students, early-career researchers and specialists in analysis, geometry, algebra and related areas, as well as anyone interested in learning new methods and techniques.

Book Synopsis Analyzable Functions and Applications by : Ovidiu Costin
Download or read book Analyzable Functions and Applications written by Ovidiu Costin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of analyzable functions is a technique used to study a wide class of asymptotic expansion methods and their applications in analysis, difference and differential equations, partial differential equations and other areas of mathematics. Key ideas in the theory of analyzable functions were laid out by Euler, Cauchy, Stokes, Hardy, E. Borel, and others. Then in the early 1980s, this theory took a great leap forward with the work of J. Ecalle. Similar techniques and conceptsin analysis, logic, applied mathematics and surreal number theory emerged at essentially the same time and developed rapidly through the 1990s. The links among various approaches soon became apparent and this body of ideas is now recognized as a field of its own with numerous applications. Thisvolume stemmed from the International Workshop on Analyzable Functions and Applications held in Edinburgh (Scotland). The contributed articles, written by many leading experts, are suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in asymptotic methods.

The conference took place at Nagoya University, Japan, in 2007. Sunada's research covers a wide spectrum of spectral analysis, including interactions among geometry, number theory, dynamical systems, probability theory and mathematical physics. Readers will find papers on trace formulae, isospectral problems, zeta functions, quantum ergodicity, random waves, discrete geometric analysis, value distribution, and semiclassical analysis. This volume also contains an article that presents an overview of Sunada's work in mathematics up to the age of sixty.
Book Synopsis Differential Equations And The Stokes Phenomenon by : B L J Braaksma
Download or read book Differential Equations And The Stokes Phenomenon written by B L J Braaksma and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-12-10 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the record of a workshop on differential equations and the Stokes phenomenon, held in May 2001 at the University of Groningen. It contains expanded versions of most of the lectures given at the workshop. To a large extent, both the workshop and the book may be regarded as a sequel to a conference held in Groningen in 1995 which resulted in the book The Stokes Phenomenon and Hilbert's 16th Problem (B L J Braaksma, G K Immink and M van der Put, editors), also published by World Scientific (1996).Both books offer a snapshot concerning the state of the art in the areas of differential, difference and q-difference equations. Apart from the asymptotics of solutions, Painlevé properties and the algebraic theory, new topics addressed in the second book include arithmetic theory of linear equations, and Galois theory and Lie symmetries of nonlinear differential equations.

Book Synopsis String-Math 2016 by : Amir-Kian Kashani-Poor
Download or read book String-Math 2016 written by Amir-Kian Kashani-Poor and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2018-06-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the conference String-Math 2016, which was held from June 27–July 2, 2016, at Collége de France, Paris, France. String-Math is an annual conference covering the most significant progress at the interface of string theory and mathematics. The two fields have had a very fruitful dialogue over the last thirty years, with string theory contributing key ideas which have opened entirely new areas of mathematics and modern mathematics providing powerful concepts and tools to deal with the intricacies of string and quantum field theory. The papers in this volume cover topics ranging from supersymmetric quantum field theories, topological strings, and conformal nets to moduli spaces of curves, representations, instantons, and harmonic maps, with applications to spectral theory and to the geometric Langlands program.

Book Synopsis Virtual Turning Points by : Naofumi Honda
Download or read book Virtual Turning Points written by Naofumi Honda and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The discovery of a virtual turning point truly is a breakthrough in WKB analysis of higher order differential equations. This monograph expounds the core part of its theory together with its application to the analysis of higher order Painlevé equations of the Noumi–Yamada type and to the analysis of non-adiabatic transition probability problems in three levels. As M.V. Fedoryuk once lamented, global asymptotic analysis of higher order differential equations had been thought to be impossible to construct. In 1982, however, H.L. Berk, W.M. Nevins, and K.V. Roberts published a remarkable paper in the Journal of Mathematical Physics indicating that the traditional Stokes geometry cannot globally describe the Stokes phenomena of solutions of higher order equations; a new Stokes curve is necessary.
