Book excerpt: En esta investigación se busca la forma de explicar numéricamente el proceso del conformado láser en placas de acero inoxidable AISI 304, así como el comportamiento de las variables involucradas más importantes. Para esto, se propone un modelamiento visco-plástico del material para poder predecir el ángulo de doblado en las placas. De esta forma, se realizaron experimentos con una fuente láser para doblar las placas de acero de 0,6 mm de espesor con el objetivo de obtener una base de datos que luego será comparada con los resultados de unas simulaciones termo-mecánicas usando el Método de Elementos Finitos. Para estas simulaciones se usó un modelo elasto-plástico y dos modelos visco-plásticos del acero para mostrar la influencia que tiene la tasa de deformación en el conformado láser. El primer modelo de visco-plasticidad fue proporcionado por la literatura, mientras que el segundo es un modelo propuesto en este trabajo que está basado en el primero y que muestra la dependencia de la tensión equivalente en la viscosidad. Los resultados demostraron que el último modelo visco-plástico propuesto se adapta mejor que los otros dos modelos y que sus resultados siguen una tendencia coherente, precisa y, para la mayoría de los casos, están dentro de la desviación estándar de los resultados experimentales.
