Book Synopsis The Wild and the Sown by : Mauro Ambrosoli
Download or read book The Wild and the Sown written by Mauro Ambrosoli and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-01-09 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the spread of new agricultural practice in the half millennium after 1350, and reconstructs a neglected part of Europe's agricultural past: the introduction of fodder crops, and the continuous reorganisation of traditional botanical inputs within a new system of farming. It breaks entirely new ground by showing the distant historical origins of a major transformation in land potential and farm productivity. A vast range of evidence is cited from Italy, France, England and elsewhere to produce in effect an economic, social and cultural history of Europe in which the focus is on the long-distance consequences of the 'agricultural revolution'.

This book was released on 2012-12-22 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a selection of contributions offered by friends, collaborators, past students in memory of Enrico Magenes. The first part gives a wide historical perspective of Magenes' work in his 50-year mathematical career; the second part contains original research papers, and shows how ideas, methods, and techniques introduced by Magenes and his collaborators still have an impact on the current research in Mathematics.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Metric Fixed Point Theory by : W.A. Kirk
Download or read book Handbook of Metric Fixed Point Theory written by W.A. Kirk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metric fixed point theory encompasses the branch of fixed point theory which metric conditions on the underlying space and/or on the mappings play a fundamental role. In some sense the theory is a far-reaching outgrowth of Banach's contraction mapping principle. A natural extension of the study of contractions is the limiting case when the Lipschitz constant is allowed to equal one. Such mappings are called nonexpansive. Nonexpansive mappings arise in a variety of natural ways, for example in the study of holomorphic mappings and hyperconvex metric spaces. Because most of the spaces studied in analysis share many algebraic and topological properties as well as metric properties, there is no clear line separating metric fixed point theory from the topological or set-theoretic branch of the theory. Also, because of its metric underpinnings, metric fixed point theory has provided the motivation for the study of many geometric properties of Banach spaces. The contents of this Handbook reflect all of these facts. The purpose of the Handbook is to provide a primary resource for anyone interested in fixed point theory with a metric flavor. The goal is to provide information for those wishing to find results that might apply to their own work and for those wishing to obtain a deeper understanding of the theory. The book should be of interest to a wide range of researchers in mathematical analysis as well as to those whose primary interest is the study of fixed point theory and the underlying spaces. The level of exposition is directed to a wide audience, including students and established researchers.

Download or read book Heinz Bauer written by Heinz Bauer and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2003 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heinz Bauer (1928-2002) was one of the prominent figures in Convex Analysis and Potential Theory in the second half of the 20th century. The Bauer minimum principle and Bauer's work on Silov's boundary and the Dirichlet problem are milestones in convex analysis. Axiomatic potential theory owes him what is known by now as Bauer harmonic spaces. These Selecta collect more than twenty of Bauer's research papers including his seminal papers in Convex Analysis and Potential Theory. Above his research contributions Bauer is best known for his art of writing survey articles. Five of his surveys on different topics are reprinted in this volume. Among them is the well-known article Approximation and Abstract Boundary, for which he was awarded with the Chauvenet Price by the American Mathematical Association in 1980.
