Book excerpt: She only thought she had a full house…. MAKE ROOM FOR BABY—AND DADDY, TOO! It wasn't as if Kate Anden's life was empty, exactly. With a ranch to run and a houseful of adopted kids to raise, she had plenty to keep her busy. Even so, she couldn't close her heart to a troubled teenager without a mother of her own…. But it was that teenager's father who was the real problem. Hank Mathison had awakened a passion within Kate that was like nothing she'd every known—a passion that was soon going to make her house even more crowded…. Because the two of them were going to be having a baby—together—and that meant they had to figure out whether they could have a marriage together, too….

Book excerpt: The population of earth has reached twenty-two billion people with both food supplies and housing predicted to be unable to keep up with increasing demand. The world is strictly controlled by one elected senate government called the Supreme World Senate. The guiding principle is “Human safety first.” After the Transformation that gave total power to the Senate, the genius inventor and entrepreneur Durant develops a powerful graphene brain for his robots. He produces hundreds of millions of mobile working machines to do all the necessary labor on the earth while the government provides an income and housing for all humans. Advanced cell phones issues to the entire population can instantly identify each individual with their DNA. These phones become the people’s identification. Durant sees the need and wants to establish humans in other solar systems on a new planet where no robots are allowed and sets about to assemble a team of gifted scientists.

Book excerpt: The Sixth Book of the Aeneid, together with the Second and Fourth Books, holds a special place in the affections of all lovers of Vergil. Some will prefer the sombre tragedy of Troy, others the pathos of Dido's passion and self-slaughter. But be his personal predilection what it may, for the reader who considers the Aeneid as a whole and regards it as something more than a mere literary epic, the Sixth Book must hold a unique place. -- Introduction.

Book Synopsis Expect The Unexpected: A First Course In Biostatistics (Second Edition) by : Raluca Balan
Download or read book Expect The Unexpected: A First Course In Biostatistics (Second Edition) written by Raluca Balan and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2017-05-25 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces the basic concepts from probability theory and statistics which are needed for statistical analysis of data encountered in the biological and health sciences. No previous study is required. Advanced mathematical tools, such as integration and differentiation, are kept to a minimum. The emphasis is put on the examples. Probabilistic methods are discussed at length, but the focus of this edition is on statistics. The examples are kept simple, so that the reader can learn quickly and see the usefulness of various statistical and probabilistic methods. Some of the examples used in this book draw attention to various problems related to environmental issues, climate change, loss of bio-diversity, and their impact on wildlife and humans. In comparison with the first edition of the book, this second edition contains additional topics such as power, sample size computation and non-parametric methods, and includes a large collection of new problems, as well as the answers to odd-numbered problems. Several sections of this edition are accompanied by instructions using the programming language R for statistical computing and graphics. The Solution Manual is available upon request for all instructors who adopt this book as a course text. Book Synopsis Advanced Concepts for Renewable Energy Supply of Data Centres by : Jaume Salom
Download or read book Advanced Concepts for Renewable Energy Supply of Data Centres written by Jaume Salom and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid increase of cloud computing, high performance computing (HPC) and the vast growth in Internet and Social Media use have aroused the interest in energy consumption and the carbon footprint of Data Centres. Data Centres primarily contain electronic equipment used for data processing (servers), data storage (storage equipment), and communications (network equipment). Collectively, this equipment processes, stores, and transmits digital information and is known as information technology (IT) equipment. Advanced Concepts for Renewable Energy Supply of Data Centres introduces a number of technical solutions for the supply of power and cooling energy into Data Centres with enhanced utilisation of renewable energy sources in order to achieve low energy Data Centres. Because of the high energy density nature of these unique infrastructures, it is essential to implement energy efficiency measures and reduce consumption before introducing any renewable energy source. A holistic approach is used with the objective of integrating many technical solutions such as management of the IT (Information Technology) load, efficient electrical supply to the IT systems, Low-Ex air-conditioning systems, interaction with district heating and cooling networks, re-use of heat, free cooling (air, seawater, groundwater), optimal use of heat and cold storage, electrical storage and integration in smart grids. This book is therefore a catalogue of advanced technical concepts that could be integrated into Data Centres portfolio in order to increase the overall efficiency and the share of renewable energies in power and cooling supply. Based on dynamic energy models implemented in TRNSYS some concepts are deeply evaluated through yearly simulations. The results of the simulation are illustrated with Sankey charts, where the energy flows per year within the subsystems of each concept for a selected scenario are shown, and graphs showing the results of parametric analysis. A set of environmental metrics (as the non-renewable primary energy) and financial metrics (CAPEX and OPEX) as well of energy efficiency metrics like the well-known PUE, are described and used to evaluate the different technical concepts.
