The study points out that the methods for achieving well-being among the Ojibwe are profoundly different than those of Euro-Americans. The study focuses on how the Ojibwe traditionally educated children and how colonialism has eroded the traditional teachings of the Ojibwe elders. Through interviews with characters such as mishoomis (grandfather) the study hopes to revive and preserve traditional Ojibwe child rearing. The author feels that centuries of child removal policies have had a detrimental affect on the Ojibwe culture, and further studies such as this can begin to reguild a cultural foundation that will affect future generations of Ojibwe children.
