Book Synopsis Tests of the ONERA Calibration Models in Three Transonic Wind Tunnels by : Travis W. Binion
Download or read book Tests of the ONERA Calibration Models in Three Transonic Wind Tunnels written by Travis W. Binion and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cooperative effort between the Office National d'Etudes et de Recherches Aerospatiales (ONERA); the National Aeronautic and Space Administration, Ames Research Center (NASA-ARC); and the Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) was accomplished whereby two ONERA standard calibration models (M3 and M5) and an area equivalent body of revolution (C5) were tested in the NASA-ARC 11-ft and the AEDC 16-ft and 4-ft transonic wind tunnels. The tests were designed to provide an experimental data base for (1) the evaluation of theoretical or empirical wall-interference correction factors and (2) the establishment of guidelines to allow reasonable selection of wind tunnel to model size ratios in the transonic speed regime. The results showed that large effects of Reynolds number, tunnel flow quality, and small difference in model geometry preclude a determination of wall interference from the M3 and M5 model data. The primary cause of the data differences is a variation in the wing shock/separation patterns between the three tunnel tests. Even though the model forces may, in certain instances, agree from tunnel to tunnel, pressure distributions showed the agreement to be fortuituous. The C5 model data indicated subsonic theory underpredicts the required blockage correction by a factor of two to ten and, because the blockage interference effect changes sign along the model, simply correcting the Mach number will not compensate for the transonic interference.

These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
Book Synopsis Wind Tunnel Test Techniques by : Colin Britcher
Download or read book Wind Tunnel Test Techniques written by Colin Britcher and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2023-10-20 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind Tunnel Test Techniques: Design and Use at Low and High Speeds with Statistical Engineering Applications provides an up-to-date treatment of the topic. Beginning with a brief history of wind tunnels and its types and uses, the book goes on to cover subsonic, supersonic and hypersonic wind tunnel design and construction, calibration, boundary corrections, flow quality assessment, pressure surveys, and dynamic testing. It also focuses on wind tunnel facilities, making it useful for both the designer and operator. Engineers and graduate students in aerospace, automotive and similar programs will find this book useful in their work with experimental aerodynamics, gas dynamics, facility design and performance. - Deals with a broad range of flow speeds in wind tunnels, from low speed to high speed - Provides a discussion of similarity laws as well as material on statistical analysis - Includes coverage on facility-to-facility and facility-to-CFD correlation - Presents advanced topics such as cryogenic wind tunnels, ground simulation in automotive testing, and propulsion testing

This book was released on 1989 with total page 1298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cities and Their Vital Systems asks basic questions about the longevity, utility, and nature of urban infrastructures; analyzes how they grow, interact, and change; and asks how, when, and at what cost they should be replaced. Among the topics discussed are problems arising from increasing air travel and airport congestion; the adequacy of water supplies and waste treatment; the impact of new technologies on construction; urban real estate values; and the field of "telematics," the combination of computers and telecommunications that makes money machines and national newspapers possible.

Book Synopsis Wind Tunnel Wall Correction by : B. F. R. Ewald
Download or read book Wind Tunnel Wall Correction written by B. F. R. Ewald and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report was compiled by an international team of wind tunnel wall correction experts. It presents the present state of the art in wind tunnel wall corrections with a special emphasis given to the description of modern wall correction methods based on Computational Fluid Dynamics. This AGARDograph was planned by the AGARD Fluid Dynamics Panel to be a modern sequel of the successful AGARDograph 109 "Subsonic Wind Tunnel Wall Corrections", which was published in 1966. AGARDogaph 109 is still valid and continues to be used to provide wall corrections in many wind tunnels. Nevertheless, in the thirty two years since the publication of AGARDograph 109, much work has been done on the subject, and the influence of the new tool of numerical fluid dynamics was so strong, that a sequel to AGARDograph 109 was considered to be necessary.
