Book Synopsis Accounting and Auditing Standards for Islamic Financial Institutions by : Mohd Ma'Sum Billah
Download or read book Accounting and Auditing Standards for Islamic Financial Institutions written by Mohd Ma'Sum Billah and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-30 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While accounting and audit functions are significantly regulated and standardized in conventional financial industries and activities, through the implementation of International Accounting Standards, and International Financial Reporting Standards, as well as other international, regional, and local regulations, this is not the case for Islamic financial organizations. Rather than having their own set of comprehensive accounting or auditing standards or policies, these are based, in some cases, on the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAIOFI), the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB)’s standards and Shari’ah based local policies. This book is a timely and comprehensive overview of accounting and auditing standards within the doctrine of Shari’ah. It offers a significant contribution to the field and a wealth of technical know-how. It analyzes Islamic accounting and auditing both in theory and practice and from a distinctly international perspective. The chapters are arranged in a systematic and logical way making it easily accessible and engaging. The book evaluates the existing standards and widens the scope of the discourse to include Maqasid al-Shari’ah, Islamic accounting and audit models and standards, as well as, offering practical policy recommendations. The author presents a Shari’ah justified solution to Islamic Accounting and Audit and offers guidance on overcoming the challenges to implementing Islamic Accounting and Auditing Standards. The book is a unique and exhaustive guide and, as such, will be an invaluable resource for academics, researchers, students, policymakers, as well as, practitioners in accounting and auditing firms and financial institutions.
Book Synopsis The Growth of Islamic Banking in Indonesia by : Yasushi Suzuki
Download or read book The Growth of Islamic Banking in Indonesia written by Yasushi Suzuki and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country in the world. Taking into account also its endowment and potential economic resources, the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia was expected to take on an important role in facilitating more financial resources and to contribute to the internationalization of the Islamic mode of financing particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. However, the reality is far from the expectation. This book aims to clarify the causes and fundamental constraints leading to the extraordinarily low level of Indonesia’s Islamic financial deepening. The authors draw on the traditions of Institutional Economics which are concerned with the rules or mechanisms of creating the 'incentive' and 'threat' for economic players because the rules (institutions) would matter as the determinant for economic development and economic efficiency. This book offers a fairly new analytical lens by hypothesizing that Islamic banks must earn additional profit– the authors coined as ‘Islamic bank rent’ - to maintain their franchise value as prudent Shari’ah-compliant lenders when compared to conventional banks. The authors argued that insufficient provision of the Islamic bank rent opportunity may have caused the Indonesia’s Islamic banks the opportunity to learn and improve their skill and capacity for the credit risk management. The book also offers evidence in support of implementing economic and affirmative policy necessary for incubating and developing the Islamic banking industry in Indonesia and making Indonesia an international Islamic financial hub in the Asia-Pacific region. This book will be a useful resource for policy makers and researchers interested in Islamic banking in Indonesia.
Book Synopsis Islamic Finance by : Mahmoud A. El-Gamal
Download or read book Islamic Finance written by Mahmoud A. El-Gamal and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-07-03 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of the practice of Islamic finance and the historical roots that define its modes of operation. The focus of the book is analytical and forward-looking. It shows that Islamic finance exists mainly as a form of rent-seeking legal-arbitrage. In every aspect of finance - from personal loans to investment banking, and from market structure to corporate governance - Islamic finance aims to replicate in Islamic forms the substantive functions of contemporary financial instruments, markets, and institutions. By attempting to replicate the substance of contemporary financial practice using pre-modern contract forms, Islamic finance has arguably failed to serve the objectives of Islamic law. This book proposes refocusing Islamic finance on substance rather than form. This approach would entail abandoning the paradigm of 'Islamization' of every financial practice. It would also entail reorienting the brand-name of Islamic finance to emphasize issues of community banking, micro-finance, and socially responsible investment.

Book Synopsis Islamic Management Practices in Financial Institutions by : Khaliq Ahmad
Download or read book Islamic Management Practices in Financial Institutions written by Khaliq Ahmad and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-30 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book draws on a range of theoretical foundations, approaches and management practices that are culturally and jurisdictionally appropriate in several Muslim countries. As such, it contributes to an emerging specialism in comparative management and leadership theory that is oriented toward a broader and more diverse set of perspectives, particularly from the non-Western world, given that the importance of values, ethics, and culture have recently been recognized as a key contributing factor to management knowledge development. The author offers an in-depth overview of the Islamic management strategies that have successfully been implemented in selected Malaysian banking and non-banking financial institutions and then outlines how the application of such strategies leads to increased integrity, efficiency and performance. The book is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the introduction, historical background and methods used in collection of data. The second part consists of a range of real-world case studies, while part three deals with the approaches to be used in the teaching of these cases followed by conclusions and recommendations. These cases studies map the strategic aspects of organizational structure and illustrate the motives that influence Malaysian managers’ choices in seeking specific responses to the situations at hand, which are in harmony with the traditions in Islamic inquiry. As such, management scholars can build a foundation for conceptual and theoretical propositions relevant to Muslim culture and environment that will have practical significance. The book provides a wealth of information and enables researchers not only to identify the determinants of knowledge structure and its context but also the evolution of practice.

Book Synopsis An Overview of Islamic Finance by : Mr.Mumtaz Hussain
Download or read book An Overview of Islamic Finance written by Mr.Mumtaz Hussain and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islamic finance has started to grow in international finance across the globe, with some concentration in few countries. Nearly 20 percent annual growth of Islamic finance in recent years seems to point to its resilience and broad appeal, partly owing to principles that govern Islamic financial activities, including equity, participation, and ownership. In theory, Islamic finance is resilient to shocks because of its emphasis on risk sharing, limits on excessive risk taking, and strong link to real activities. Empirical evidence on the stability of Islamic banks, however, is so far mixed. While these banks face similar risks as conventional banks do, they are also exposed to idiosyncratic risks, necessitating a tailoring of current risk management practices. The macroeconomic policy implications of the rapid expansion of Islamic finance are far reaching and need careful considerations.
