This book was released on 2018-07-06 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report deals with conducting a probabilistic study of the external tank attach ring (ETA) used as an interface between the external tank attach struts and the solid rocket booster. The ideas were to use probabilistic distributions for material, geometric, and load properties; to calculate probabilistic margins of safety; and then to compare results against the deterministic factors of safety that were used in the actual design process. The report describes how this was done and discusses some of the road blocks and data problems that were encountered during the study and provides some conclusions. A further refinement of this study is being considered for future work which would make more direct use of finite element analysis data coupled with Monte Carlo simulation. The basic conclusion herein indicates that the probabilistic margins of safety for the cases analyzed (by use of existing data) appear to support deterministic results and actually indicate higher reliabilities. Book Synopsis Design Engineering Manual by : Mike Tooley
Download or read book Design Engineering Manual written by Mike Tooley and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-10-30 with total page 617 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design Engineering Manual offers a practical guide to the key principles of design engineering. It features a compilation of extracts from several books within the range of Design Engineering books in the Elsevier collection. The book is organized into 11 sections. Beginning with a review of the processes of product development and design, the book goes on to describe systematic ways of choosing materials and processes. It details the properties of modern metallic alloys including commercial steels, cast irons, superalloys, titanium alloys, structural intermetallic compounds, and aluminum alloys. The book explains the human/system interface; procedures to assess the risks associated with job and task characteristics; and environmental factors that may be encountered at work and affect behavior. Product liability and safety rules are discussed. The final section on design techniques introduces the design process from an inventors perspective to a more formal model called total design. It also deals with the behavior of plastics that influence the application of practical and complex engineering equations and analysis in the design of products. - Provides a single-source of critical information to the design engineer, saving time and therefore money on a particular design project - Presents both the fundamentals and advanced topics and also the latest information in key aspects of the design process - Examines all aspects of the design process in one concise and accessible volume
Download or read book Product Development written by Anil Mital and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-08-12 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Product development teams are composed of an integrated group of professionals working from the nascent stage of new product planning through design creation and design review and then on to manufacturing planning and cost accounting. An increasingly large number of graduate and professional training programs are aimed at meeting that need by creating a better understanding of how to integrate and accelerate the entire product development process. This book is the perfect accompaniment and a comprehensive guide. The second edition of this instructional reference work presents invaluable insight into the concurrent nature of the multidisciplinary product development process. It can be used in the traditional classroom, in professional continuing education courses or for self-study. This book has a ready audience among graduate students in mechanical and industrial engineering, as well as in many MBA programs focused on manufacturing management. This is a global need that will find a receptive readership in the industrialized world particularly in the rapidly developing industrial economies of South Asia and Southeast Asia. - Reviews the precepts of Product design in a step-by-step structured process and focuses on the concurrent nature of product design - Helps the reader to understand the connection between initial design and interim and final design, including design review and materials selection - Offers insight into roles played by product functionality, ease-of assembly, maintenance and durability, and their interaction with cost estimation and manufacturability through the application of design principles to actual products
