Book Synopsis Acoustic Emission Testing by : Christian U. Grosse
Download or read book Acoustic Emission Testing written by Christian U. Grosse and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-07-14 with total page 752 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to Acoustic Emission Testing and its applications to different materials like concrete, steel, ceramics, geotechnical materials, polymers, biological structures and wood. Acoustic Emission Techniques (AET) techniques have been studied in engineering for a long time. The techniques are applied more and more to practical investigations and are more and more standardized in codes. This is because the degradation of structures due to ageing urgently demand for maintenance and rehabilitation of structures in service. It results in the need for the development of advanced and efficient inspection techniques. In mechanical engineering and concerning the monitoring of machines and mechanical components, AE is a widely accepted observing deterioration in the frame of structural health monitoring. The advantages of AE like sensitivity, damage localization potential, non-intrusive nature as well as developments in signal analysis and data transmission allow applications that could not be considered decades ago. As such, AE techniques draw great attention to diagnostic applications and in material testing. This book covers all levels from the description of AE basics for AE beginners (level of a student) to sophisticated AE algorithms and applications to real large-scale structures as well as the observation of the cracking process in laboratory specimen to study fracture processes. This book has proved its worth over the past twelve years. Now in its second edition, it will be a resource that sets the standard and equips readers for the future. All chapters from the 1st edition have been updated and rewritten and eight extra chapters (e.g also regarding AE tomography, AE in plate-like structures and AE for investigations of hardening of fresh concrete) have been added.

Book Synopsis Sound and Structural Vibration by : Frank J. Fahy
Download or read book Sound and Structural Vibration written by Frank J. Fahy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-01-12 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of Sound and Structural Vibration was written in the early 1980s. Since then, two major developments have taken place in the field of vibroacoustics. Powerful computational methods and procedures for the numerical analysis of structural vibration, acoustical fields and acoustical interactions between fluids and structures have been developed and these are now universally employed by researchers, consultants and industrial organisations. Advances in signal processing systems and algorithms, in transducers, and in structural materials and forms of construction, have facilitated the development of practical means of applying active and adaptive control systems to structures for the purposes of reducing or modifying structural vibration and the associated sound radiation and transmission. In this greatly expanded and extensively revised edition, the authors have retained most of the analytically based material that forms the pedagogical content of the first edition, and have expanded it to present the theoretical foundations of modern numerical analysis. Application of the latter is illustrated by examples that have been chosen to complement the analytical approaches to solving fairly simple problems of sound radiation, transmission and fluid-structural coupling that are presented in the first edition. The number of examples of experimental data that relate to the theoretical content, and illustrate important features of vibroacoustic interaction, has been augmented by the inclusion of a selection from the vast amount of material published during the past twenty five years. The final chapter on the active control of sound and vibration has no precursor in the first edition.* Covers theoretical approaches to modeling and analysis* Highly applicable to challenges in industry and academia* For engineering students to use throughout their career

Book Synopsis Elastic Waves and Metamaterials: The Fundamentals by : Yoon Young Kim
Download or read book Elastic Waves and Metamaterials: The Fundamentals written by Yoon Young Kim and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-08-01 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as an introductory text for students and engineers with limited knowledge of metamaterials (and elastic waves). This text begins with the most straightforward vibrating systems, such as single and 2-DOF spring-mass systems. It examines the observed phenomena in 2-DOF systems in an unconventional manner to prepare the reader for research on metamaterials. After presenting wave phenomena in an infinitely connected spring-mass system, an elastic bar, a continuous version of an infinite system, is analyzed. This instructional strategy, which progresses from the discrete model to the continuous model, facilitates efficient comprehension of wave and metamaterial concepts. Using continuous and discrete one-dimensional models, bending waves and their manipulation through metamaterials are also discussed. In the latter chapters of this book, advanced readers are introduced to the fundamental wave phenomena in two-dimensional media and wave manipulation using metamaterials, such as mode-converting transmission. As wave phenomena are the fundamental phenomena in vibrating structures, those interested in acoustics and vibration would gain a great deal of knowledge from this book, as the material covered in it offers a very different perspective on oscillatory phenomena than what is typically found in books on acoustics and vibration. Because this book presents a new technique for manipulating waves using metamaterials, engineers and scientists who work with (ultra)sounds and structural vibrations would find it very useful for expanding their knowledge of relevant topics.

Download or read book Acoustic Waves written by Don Dissanayake and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: SAW devices are widely used in multitude of device concepts mainly in MEMS and communication electronics. As such, SAW based micro sensors, actuators and communication electronic devices are well known applications of SAW technology. For example, SAW based passive micro sensors are capable of measuring physical properties such as temperature, pressure, variation in chemical properties, and SAW based communication devices perform a range of signal processing functions, such as delay lines, filters, resonators, pulse compressors, and convolvers. In recent decades, SAW based low-powered actuators and microfluidic devices have significantly added a new dimension to SAW technology. This book consists of 20 exciting chapters composed by researchers and engineers active in the field of SAW technology, biomedical and other related engineering disciplines. The topics range from basic SAW theory, materials and phenomena to advanced applications such as sensors actuators, and communication systems. As such, in addition to theoretical analysis and numerical modelling such as Finite Element Modelling (FEM) and Finite Difference Methods (FDM) of SAW devices, SAW based actuators and micro motors, and SAW based micro sensors are some of the exciting applications presented in this book. This collection of up-to-date information and research outcomes on SAW technology will be of great interest, not only to all those working in SAW based technology, but also to many more who stand to benefit from an insight into the rich opportunities that this technology has to offer, especially to develop advanced, low-powered biomedical implants and passive communication devices.
