Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subjects of green energy and sustainability have never been more important, as governments around the world wrestle with the problem of how to protect the planet from the damage being caused to the environment by climate change. This book presents the proceedings of GEESD2023, the 4th International Conference on Green Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development, held in Mianyang, China from 15-17 June 2023 and online via Zoom. The conference aims to gather innovative academicians and industry experts in the fields of green energy, environment, and sustainable development in a common forum, providing a platform for the exchange of the latest research developments in related fields. This year, the call for papers attracted more than 280 submissions, 138 of which were accepted for inclusion in this collection. The process of evaluation and peer-review took place over six months and involved more than 100 TPC members and reviewers. The book is divided into 7 sections: green energy and systems; computer methods in the environment; chemistry and the environment; ecology and the rural environment; energy, environment and economy; environment and pollution; and water and mineral resources. Papers deal with the most up-to-date findings and technologies. The book provides a valuable overview of the latest research and developments and will be of interest to all those working in the fields of green energy and sustainable development.

Book excerpt: The imminent need to mitigate the global warming potential (GWP) and the impact of the ozone depletion potential (ODP) demand seeking more efficient uses of energy, new energy sources, and new technologies. Heat transfer plays a vital role in efficient power production with minimum investment, installation, and maintenance costs. This book deals with issues related to efficiently utilizing available energy by integrating the technology of heat exchangers into power production units. Further, it provides detailed descriptions of heat transfer applications commonly used in modern everyday life and industrial contexts, supported by practical and worked-out examples presented to facilitate learning.

Book excerpt: I welcome the opportunity to have my book translated, because of the great emphasis on two-phase flow and heat transfer in the English-speaking world, as related to research, university education, and industrial practice. The 1988 Springer-Verlag edition of "Warmeiibergang beim Kondensieren und beim Sieden" has been enlarged to include additional material on falling film evaporation (Chapter 12) and pressure drop in two-phase flow (Chapter 13). Minor errors in the original text have also been corrected. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Professor Green, Asso ciate Professor of German at Rensselaer, for his excellent translation and co operation. My thanks go also to Professor Bergles for his close attention to technical and linguistic details. He carefully read the typescript and made many comments and suggestions that helped to improve the manuscript. I hope that the English edition will meet with' a favorable reception and contribute to better understanding and to progress in the field of heat transfer in condensation and boiling. February 1992 K. Stephan Preface to the German-Language Edition This book is a continuation of the series "Heat and Mass Transfer" edited by U. Grigull, in which three volumes have already been published. Its aim is to acquaint students and practicing engineers with heat transfer during condensa tion and boiling, and is intended primarily for students and engineers in mechanical, chemical, electrical, and industrial processing engineering.
