Book excerpt: HMT: The Science & Application of Heat and Mass Transfer: Reports, Reviews & Computer Programs, Volume 2: Flow, Mixing and Heat Transfer in Furnaces is a collection of papers from the First Conference on Mechanical Power Engineering. The title presents experimental and theoretical research in the field of flow, mixing, and heat transfer in furnaces. The experimental papers in the selection include the effect of the exit section geometry and furnace length on mixing in a cold model industrial furnace, as well as the effect of some parameters on the characteristics of heat liberated along a cylindrical reversed flow furnace. The theoretical papers tackle topics such as study of mixing of two coaxial swirling jets in a cold model furnace and numerical computations of turbulent swirling flames in axisymmetric combustors. The book will be of great use to students, researchers, and practitioners of mechanical engineering.

Book Synopsis Experimental and Theoretical Study of Chemiluminescence in Flames and of Combustion in Solid Propellants by : Pierre J. Van Teggelen
Download or read book Experimental and Theoretical Study of Chemiluminescence in Flames and of Combustion in Solid Propellants written by Pierre J. Van Teggelen and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two parts of the report deal successively with chemiluminescence in flames and with combustion of solid propellants. Relationships between chemiluminiscence (CL) and chemi-ionization (CI) on one hand, and the molecular structure of the fuel on the other hand have been put forward, in particular the structure of hydrocarbon fuels have been investigated. Applying the multimicrojet burner technique for the simulating study of heat transfer from the reaction zone onto the regressing surface of solid propellants, it has been possible to investigate the dependence of the heat release on parameters such as total flow, distribution modes of gases, dilution and richness of flammable mixture and to correlate the heat release as a function of the burning velocity alone. Moreover, a new reliable technique to prepare 'cigarettes' of (polymthyl methacrylate) for hybrid combustion has been developed where one can get rid of any trace of acetone, and where heat losses to the wall of the tube are avoided during the burning process. Mass burning rates of PMM with N2O and O2 have been recorded, and the porosity of the sample has been studied.

Book excerpt: Over the past few decades there has been a prolific increase in research and development in area of heat transfer, heat exchangers and their associated technologies. This book is a collection of current research in the above mentioned areas and discusses experimental, theoretical and calculation approaches and industrial utilizations with modern ideas and methods to study heat transfer for single and multiphase systems. The topics considered include various basic concepts of heat transfer, the fundamental modes of heat transfer (namely conduction, convection and radiation), thermophysical properties, condensation, boiling, freezing, innovative experiments, measurement analysis, theoretical models and simulations, with many real-world problems and important modern applications. The book is divided in four sections : "Heat Transfer in Micro Systems", "Boiling, Freezing and Condensation Heat Transfer", "Heat Transfer and its Assessment", "Heat Transfer Calculations", and each section discusses a wide variety of techniques, methods and applications in accordance with the subjects. The combination of theoretical and experimental investigations with many important practical applications of current interest will make this book of interest to researchers, scientists, engineers and graduate students, who make use of experimental and theoretical investigations, assessment and enhancement techniques in this multidisciplinary field as well as to researchers in mathematical modelling, computer simulations and information sciences, who make use of experimental and theoretical investigations as a means of critical assessment of models and results derived from advanced numerical simulations and improvement of the developed models and numerical methods.
Download or read book Heat Transfer XIII written by B. Sundén and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2014-07-02 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heat Transfer XIII: Simulation and Experiments in Heat and Mass Transfer contains the proceedings of the thirteenth conference in the well established series on Simulation and Experiments in Heat Transfer and its applications. Advances in computational methods for solving and understanding heat transfer problems continue to be important because heat transfer topics and related phenomena are commonly of a complex nature and different mechanisms like heat conduction, convection, turbulence, thermal radiation and phase change as well as chemical reactions may occur simultaneously. Typically, applications are found in heat exchangers, gas turbine cooling, turbulent combustion and fires, fuel cells, batteries, micro- and mini- channels, electronics cooling, melting and solidification, chemical processing etc. Heat Transfer might be regarded as an established and mature scientific discipline, but it has played a major role in new emerging areas such as sustainable development and reduction of greenhouse gases as well as for micro- and nano- scale structures and bioengineering. Non-linear phenomena other than momentum transfer may occur due to temperature-dependent thermophysical properties. In engineering design and development, reliable and accurate computational methods are requested to replace or complement expensive and time consuming experimental trial an error work. Tremendous advancements have been achieved during recent years due to improved numerical solution methods for non-linear partial differential equations, turbulence modelling advancements and developments of computers and computing algorithms to achieve efficient and rapid simulations. Nevertheless, to further progress in computational methods requires developments in theoretical and predictive procedures – both basic and innovative – and in applied research. Accurate experimental investigations are needed to validate the numerical calculations. Topics covered include: Heat transfer in energy producing devices; Heat transfer enhancements; Heat exchangers; Natural and forced convection and radiation; Multiphase flow heat transfer; Modelling and experiments; Heat recovery; Heat and mass transfer problems; Environmental heat transfer; Experimental and measuring technologies; Thermal convert studies.
