Book Synopsis Everywhere Present by : Stephen Freeman
Download or read book Everywhere Present written by Stephen Freeman and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Christians living in a secular society have unwittingly relegated God and all things spiritual to the "second storey" of the universe: a realm we cannot reach except through death. The effect of this is to banish God, along with the saints and angels, from our everyday lives. Fr. Stephen Freeman makes a compelling case for becoming aware of God's living and active presence in every moment of our lives here and now. Learning to practice your Christian faith in a one-storey universe will change your life--and make possible the living, intimate relationship with God you've always dreamed of.
Book Synopsis Ever Increasing Faith by : Smith Wigglesworth
Download or read book Ever Increasing Faith written by Smith Wigglesworth and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2005-02-26 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smith Wigglesworth was born to a very poor family. At the age of six he had to go to work. As a consequence, he never learned to read well until he was an adult. He became a plumber by trade. As a minister, Wigglesworth was hardly known outside of his hometown until 1907. In 1907, he received the baptism in the Holy Ghost, which changed his life forever. It was then, at the age of 48, that God moved Wigglesworth from a small relatively unknown ministry to conducting powerful meetings throughout the world, stirring the faith of thousands to receive healing and salvation. Wigglesworth would usually conclude a sermon by praying for the sick; regardless of what text he had ministered. Smith Wigglesworth's ministry centred on salvation for the unconverted, healing for the sick, and a call to believers to be baptized in the Holy Ghost. He was filled with God...with love, compassion, and faith. On March 12, 1947, Smith Wigglesworth, in perfect health, closed his eyes and slipped into eternity, at the age of 87.
Book Synopsis An Ever-Present Faith by : J. Douglas Childers
Download or read book An Ever-Present Faith written by J. Douglas Childers and published by Pageturner Press and Media. This book was released on 2022-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I contend that any society's peace is measured by its people's capacity to maintain an eternal level of spirituality to promote morality. The biblical words from the bible's introductory story of Genesis seem to make this point through these words: "Then the Lord said to Cain, 'why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it (Genesis 4:6). " While this comment isn't intended to imply a mandatory presence of common religion. I believe it suggests a place for spirituality within the purview of humans to assist in shaping the action and growth of humanity to the degree that we live in a condition of peace and practical and placatory development as we interact with others. The dawn of the twenty-first century presented more than exciting innovations in America. It also brought aggressive attacks on the lives of innocent people. But we are created Imago Dei in God's image, and our purpose should be to live out our faith as people of love in harmony with one another. This book seeks to inspire hope and renew a sense of inspiration in people who have been victims of the ugly side of humanity caused by mass shootings and political division.
Book Synopsis Why I Still Believe by : Mary Jo Sharp
Download or read book Why I Still Believe written by Mary Jo Sharp and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For anyone who feels caught in the tension between the beauty of God's story and the ugliness of human hypocrisy, Why I Still Believe offers a stirring story of hope. Why would anyone be a Christian when there is so much hypocrisy in the church? Mary Jo Sharp shares her journey as a skeptical believer who still holds to a beautiful faith despite wounding experiences in the Christian community. At a time when de-conversion stories have become all too common, this is an earnest response - the compelling conversion of an unlikely believer whose questions ultimately led her to irresistible hope. Sharp addresses her own struggle with the reality that God's people repeatedly give God's story a bad name and takes a careful look at how the current church often inadvertently produces atheists despite its life-giving message. For those who feel the ever-present tension between the beauty of salvation and the dark side of human nature, Why I Still Believe is a candid and approachable case for believing in God when you really want to walk away. With fresh and thoughtful insights, this spiritual narrative presents relevant answers to haunting questions like: Isn't there too much pain and suffering to believe? Is it okay to have doubt? What if Jesus' story is a copy of another story? Is there any evidence for Jesus' resurrection? Does atheism explain the human experience better than Christianity can? How can the truth of Christianity matter when the behaviors of Christians are reprehensible? At once logical and loving, Sharp reframes the gospel as it truly is: the good news of redemption. With firmly grounded truths, Why I Still Believe is an affirming reminder that the hypocrisy of Christians can never negate the transforming grace and truth of Christ.
Book Synopsis Praying Constantly by : Benedict Groeschel
Download or read book Praying Constantly written by Benedict Groeschel and published by Our Sunday Visitor. This book was released on 2010-09-24 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just what did the Apostle Paul mean when he said, "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thess 5:17)? In this perceptive and timely book, celebrated spiritual teacher Benedict Groeschel demonstrates how the combination of grace with enduring Christian truths and practices will enable you to experience a deep, rewarding prayer life that in effect premeates everything you do. But Groeschel is not implying everyone should join a monastery. In fact, he points out that half of the communication equation has already been solved by ordinary Christians. God, who created humans in His image, is constantly trying to get in touch with us. He uses the gift of our senses, the beauty of creation, and the riches of music, art, and literature as a kind of celestial "call-waiting" system. The challenge confronting us is to "answer the call" by cultivating an awareness of God's loving presence. The foundation for doing so is to establish and maintain a schedule of daily prayer, thereby creating a framework for communication with God. In addition, the Church offers a lavish variety of resources to support our personal efforts, from daily Mass attendance, to praying the Rosary, to engaging in the ancient practice of lectio divina. As we let God touch our spirits, we will begin to practice contemplation, a prerequisite for regarding everything in our lives as spiritual exercises. This remarkable book uses the testimonies of Scripture and of the lives of saints through the ages to show how you can make your words and actions a river of unceasing prayer.
Book Synopsis Why Faith Makes Sense by : Will Jr. Davis
Download or read book Why Faith Makes Sense written by Will Jr. Davis and published by Revell. This book was released on 2008-10 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the Bible declares, "The fool has said in his heart that there is no God," our culture has turned that statement on its head. The mantra of today's intellectual crowd is that the fool is the one who believes in God. Sadly, some Christians are starting to believe this, too. Will Davis Jr. says this is nonsense. You don't have to stop thinking to be a Christian. In fact, faith is the logical, natural progression of good reasoning, and it is less foolish to believe in God than not to believe. With common language, humor, biblical teaching, and real-life stories, Why Faith Makes Sense helps everyday believers understand why belief is the rational outcome of clear thinking about the evidence that surrounds us.

Challenging these truths, many members of the evangelical community have stood up for the key doctrines that, in their view, remain essential to the Christian faith. In Foundational Faith, John Koessler, a professor at Moody Bible Institute, joins several of his colleagues in introducing fundamental truths of the Christian faith to a generation increasingly unfamiliar with the original and true essence of Christianity.
Book Synopsis Faith in the Wilderness by : Hannah Nation
Download or read book Faith in the Wilderness written by Hannah Nation and published by Kirkdale Press. This book was released on 2022-04-27 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If we want revival in our communities, then let us learn from those being revived." For many Western Christians, the experience of suffering and persecution is remote. For Chinese Christians, on the other hand, persecution is a regular aspect of the Christian life. If a Christian from the West was transported to a Chinese house church, the topic of suffering would be ever--present in preaching and conversation. With decades of persecution under the thumb of the Chinese Communist Party and a rich theology of suffering, the Chinese house church movement has much to contribute theologically to the global church. In Faith in the Wilderness, editors Hannah Nation and Simon Liu pull together the insights of the Chinese Church for the West. These sermonic letters from Chinese Christians will awaken readers to the reality of the gospel--the ground of our hope--in the midst of darkness. Readers will be convicted, encouraged, and edified by the testimony of these Chinese Christians.
Download or read book Not Sure written by John D. Suk and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2011-09-02 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2002, while touring North America with his wife in an RV, John Suk -- lifelong Christian, longtime pastor, and noted leader in the Christian Reformed Church -- experienced a crippling crisis of faith. He emerged from that dark time with a strange new gift -- doubt. In Not Sure Suk takes readers on an eyes-wide-open, deeply personal voyage through the past and present of Christian belief, reexamining Christian faith -- in his own life and in fifteen centuries of Christian history -- through a skeptic's eyes. He exposes major pitfalls of modern Christian movements and questions what he considers to be faulty paradigms: the "personal relationship with Jesus," the "health-and-wealth gospel," and traditional ethnicity-based belief systems. In the end he is left clinging to what is for him a truer, wiser kind of faith in Jesus Christ -- faith that struggles and lives with doubt.
Book Synopsis God Loves You by : Dr. David Jeremiah
Download or read book God Loves You written by Dr. David Jeremiah and published by FaithWords. This book was released on 2012-10-04 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: That God loves us is the most profound truth in the universe. Experiencing this love has the potential to answer every question, solve every problem, and satisfy the deepest yearnings of the heart. So why are many people who believe this still unable to fully utilize the power of God's love in their personal lives? In this probing book, Dr. David Jeremiah reveals that not fully understanding and appreciating every critical dimension of God's love can lead to missed opportunities to experience His love. He explains how even the so-called negative dimension of God's actions--hell, prohibitive commandments, pain and suffering in the world--can only be rightly understood by viewing them in light of God's true love. GOD LOVES YOU will enable readers to know God in a way that will consciously connect them with the healing power of His grace so they can experience the life of love they were created to enjoy.
Book Synopsis The Eternal Current by : Aaron Niequist
Download or read book The Eternal Current written by Aaron Niequist and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2018-08-07 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A call for Christians to move past the shallows of idealized beliefs and into a deeper, more vibrant, beatitude-like faith rooted in sacred practices and intimate experiences with God. When the limits of his own faith experience left him feeling spiritually empty, Niequist determined God must have a wider vision for worship and community. In his search, Aaron discovered that there was historical Christian precedent for enacting faith in a different way, an ancient and now future way of believing. He calls this third way "practice-based faith." This book is about loving one's faith tradition and, at the same time, following the call to something deeper and richer. By adopting some new spiritual practices, it is possible to learn to swim again with a renewed sense of vigor and divine purpose.
Book Synopsis Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason by : Jason Lisle
Download or read book Keeping Faith in an Age of Reason written by Jason Lisle and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2017-10-26 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “You can’t trust the Bible — it’s full of hundreds of contradictions.” Really? Just because the critic mindlessly declares it so? Don’t be so fast to believe everything you hear! In this book Dr. Jason Lisle examines 420 claims of Bible contradictions and sets the record straight. Contradiction #139 Was Abraham justified by faith or by works? Romans 4:2 - says by faith VS. James 2:21 - says by works Bifurcation fallacy. Abraham was justified both by faith and by works (James 2:24, 26). To “justify” means either to be in right moral standing or to show that one is (morally) in right standing. Abraham was justified by faith before God since God knows all things — including Abraham’s faith (James 2:23). God sees our hearts (1 Samuel 16:7), so we are justified before God by our faith alone, which God can see. But men cannot see another man’s faith. They only see the outward works that follow from inward faith. Therefore, Abraham was justified before men by the works that followed from his faith, since men cannot see faith but can see works. James explicitly teaches this (James 2:18–26).
Book Synopsis Faith Beyond Belief by : Margaret Placentra Johnston
Download or read book Faith Beyond Belief written by Margaret Placentra Johnston and published by Quest Books. This book was released on 2012-09-25 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Faith Beyond Belief gives a much-needed voice to the “good” people who have left their church but whose spirituality continues to mature. Johnston uses first-person stories as well as known spiritual authorities in describing various stages of religious growth. Some of these real-life accounts are by nonbelievers; others are by those among the growing numbers of the “spiritual but not religious.” All are thoughtful people with too much integrity to live what they consider a lie. The stories of the nonbelievers-including an ex-Catholic, a former Mormon, and a clandestine Muslim apostate who left his community after the attacks of 9/11-show how complete confidence in human reason can lead away from literal religious interpretation. But, while that step is a necessary one on the spiritual path, it is only intermediate. Her second set of stories are of people at the “mystic” level who can tolerate paradox and see truth and reality as multidimensional. Johnston’s book will help doubters to see things in a new light as well as those who are struggling to clarify their own spiritual vision. It also points beyond the atheist/believer controversy wrecking such divisive havoc in our culture today.

Download or read book Brave by Faith written by Alistair Begg and published by The Good Book Company. This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn from the book of Daniel how to live confidently for Christ today. What does it look like to live with joy in a society that does not like what Christians believe, say or do? It’s tempting to grow angry, keep our heads down, retreat or just give up altogether. But this isn’t the first time that God’s people have had to learn how to live in a pagan world that opposes God’s rule. In this realistic yet positive book, renowned Bible teacher Alistair Begg examines the first seven chapters of Daniel to show us how to live bravely, confidently and obediently in an increasingly secular society. Readers will see that God is powerful and God is sovereign, and even in the face of circumstances that appear to be prevailing against his people, we may trust him entirely. We can be as brave as Daniel if we have faith in Daniel’s God! "The message of Daniel is incredibly relevant for us in our generation. Not because it maps out a strategy for how to deal with our new lack of status ... or because Daniel was a great man and we need to follow his example. The reason is that it will help us to believe in Daniel’s God." Alistair Begg, author.
