Download or read book Differentiated Supervision written by Allan A. Glatthorn and published by Association for Supervision & Curriculum Development. This book was released on 1997 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differentiated supervision is an approach to supervision that provides teachers with options about the kinds of supervisory and evaluative services they receive. The differentiated model provides intensive development to nontenured teachers and to tenured teachers with serious problems. The rest of the faculty receive options for fostering their professional development, working in collaborative teams or opting for a self-directed approach. This book describes a model of differentiated supervision and offers suggestions for its implementation. Chapter 1 presents a rationale for differentiated supervision and briefly describes its components. Chapter 2 explains the foundation elements needed by all teachers to make the model work effectively. The third chapter describes processes for fostering the learning-centered classroom, with a focus on learning outcomes. Chapters 4 through 6 explain how each of the following developmental options works: providing intensive development; fostering cooperative professional development; and facilitating self-directed development. The seventh chapter focuses on the evaluative options in a differentiated system, which distinguishes between two types of evaluation--intensive evaluation and standard evaluation. The final chapter offers suggestions for developing local models appropriate to an individual district's needs and resources. Contains 11 figures and an appendix listing schools using the differentiated model. References accompany each chapter. (LMI)

This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 534 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children spend more time in school than in any social institution outside the home. And schools probably exert more influence on children’s development and life chances than any environment beyond the home and neighbourhood. The purpose of this book is to document some important ways schools influence children’s development and to describe various models and methods for studying schooling effects. Key features include: Comprehensive Coverage – this is the first book to provide a comprehensive review of what is known about schools as a context for human development. Topical coverage ranges from theoretical foundations to investigative methodologies and from classroom-level influences such as teacher-student relations to broader influences such as school organization and educational policies. Cross-Disciplinary – this volume brings together the divergent perspectives, methods and findings of scholars from a variety of disciplines, among them educational psychology, developmental psychology, school psychology, social psychology, psychiatry, sociology, and educational policy. Chapter Structure – to ensure continuity, chapter authors describe 1) how schooling influences are conceptualized 2) identify their theoretical and methodological approaches 3) discuss the strengths and weaknesses of existing research and 4) highlight implications for future research, practice, and policy. Methodologies – chapters included in the text feature various methodologies including longitudinal studies, hierarchical linear models, experimental and quasi-experimental designs, and mixed methods.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Research in Education Finance and Policy by : Helen F. Ladd
Download or read book Handbook of Research in Education Finance and Policy written by Helen F. Ladd and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-12-17 with total page 693 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sponsored by the Association for Education Finance and Policy (AEFP), the second edition of this groundbreaking handbook assembles in one place the existing research-based knowledge in education finance and policy, with particular attention to elementary and secondary education. Chapters from the first edition have been fully updated and revised to reflect current developments, new policies, and recent research. With new chapters on teacher evaluation, alternatives to traditional public schooling, and cost-benefit analysis, this volume provides a readily available current resource for anyone involved in education finance and policy. The Handbook of Research in Education Finance and Policy traces the evolution of the field from its initial focus on school inputs and revenue sources used to finance these inputs, to a focus on educational outcomes and the larger policies used to achieve them. Chapters show how decision making in school finance inevitably interacts with decisions about governance, accountability, equity, privatization, and other areas of education policy. Because a full understanding of important contemporary issues requires inputs from a variety of perspectives, the Handbook draws on contributors from a number of disciplines. Although many of the chapters cover complex, state-of-the-art empirical research, the authors explain key concepts in language that non-specialists can understand. This comprehensive, balanced, and accessible resource provides a wealth of factual information, data, and wisdom to help educators improve the quality of education in the United States.
Book Synopsis Enhancing Teacher Education, Development, and Evaluation by : Alyson Lavigne
Download or read book Enhancing Teacher Education, Development, and Evaluation written by Alyson Lavigne and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-26 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enhancing Teacher Education, Development, and Evaluation examines the complex role that recent educational reforms have played in the teaching profession. The failure of programs like Race to the Top to benefit teaching and learning outcomes has yielded many questions about what went wrong and how a research-based plan for true systemic progress could actually work. Covering inaccurate narratives about schools and student achievement, evidence for teacher effectiveness, and the history and repercussions of Race to the Top, this book culminates with a proposal for future research and policy initiatives that more accurately and more equitably prioritize the measurement and improvement of teaching and learning. Five concise yet comprehensive chapters invite teacher and principal educators, teachers and school leaders in training, district administrators, policymakers, and other stakeholders to better understand the implications of and possible paths beyond misguided reform efforts. An overview of the recent past and an inspiration for the immediate future, this definitive analysis offers insights into how more reasonable, empirically derived strategies will ultimately foster more successful schools.
