Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) is enjoying a renaissance across the United States and around the world. CRCP has the potential to provide a long-term, "zero-maintenance," service life under heavy traffic loadings and challenging environmental conditions, provided proper design and quality construction practices are utilised. This book provides an overview of the CRCP technology and the major developments that have led to what are referred to herein as the "best practices" for CRCP design and construction. The purpose of this book is to provide the best practices information on rehabilitation strategies for extending the service life of continuously reinforced concrete pavements (CRCP). The procedures described in this book consist of defining the problem, identifying potential solutions, and selecting the preferred alternatives.

This book was released on 1974 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report contains support documentation of design methods for continuously reinforced concrete pavements, both overlays and new construction. The experimental investigations of continuously reinforced concrete airfield pavements conducted as part of this research are described and analyzed. The field studies provide experimental validation of the design procedure. The report includes the general outline and analysis for design procedure for both overlay and new pavement. It includes a discussion of material evaluation requirements, handling of aircraft traffic projections for use in fatigue design, and the development of a fatigue curve. The report includes construction recommendations and suggestions based on the current state of knowledge and experience. A comparison is presented of the analyses and observations made on the pavements investigated in the field study. (Modified author abstract).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Addressing the interactions between the different design and construction variables and techniques this book illustrates best practices for constructing economical, long life concrete pavements. The book proceeds in much the same way as a pavement construction project. First, different alternatives for concrete pavement solutions are outlined. The desired performance and behaviour parameters are identified. Next, appropriate materials are outlined and the most suitable concrete proportions determined. The design can be completed, and then the necessary construction steps for translating the design into a durable facility are carried out. Although the focus reflects highways as the most common application, special features of airport, industrial, and light duty pavements are also addressed. Use is made of modeling and performance tools such as HIPERPAV and LTPP to illustrate behavior and performance, along with some case studies. As concrete pavements are more complex than they seem, and the costs of mistakes or of over-design can be high, this is a valuable book for engineers in both the public and private sectors.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of Continuously Reinforced Hydraulic Cement Concrete Pavement at Virginia's Smart Road by : Hamdi Celik Ozyildirim
Download or read book Evaluation of Continuously Reinforced Hydraulic Cement Concrete Pavement at Virginia's Smart Road written by Hamdi Celik Ozyildirim and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A two-lane continuously reinforced concrete pavement was built in Blacksburg, Virginia, as a part of Virginia's Smart Road. One of the lanes is 12 ft wide, and the other is 14 ft wide. The additional 2 ft was part of the shoulder. Below the concrete pavement is a 3-in-thick open-graded drainage layer (OGDL); one section is asphalt stabilized, and the other section is cement stabilized. The concrete pavement was cured by a curing compound except that the 12-ft lane was also covered with plastic and straw because of concerns with cold ambient temperature. The objective of this project was to determine the material properties of the concrete, instrument the pavement, monitor construction practices, and monitor the performance of the pavement over 4 years. The concrete had high early strength, low permeability, and high shrinkage. The average crack spacing was more than 3 ft, indicating satisfactory performance. In general, cracks were wider when they were further apart, but the differences in crack spacing and width were variable and small in some cases and could not be correlated after 4 years. The end sections had less cracking than the interior sections of the pavement. There were fewer cracks and more space between cracks in the 12-ft lane and fewer cracks in the pavement over the asphalt-stabilized OGDL. This was attributed to a better cure in the 12-ft lane and to a lower friction over the asphalt-stabilized base. No changes to the specifications were recommended as a result of the study findings.
