Book Synopsis Mengerian Microeconomics by : Ivan Jankovic
Download or read book Mengerian Microeconomics written by Ivan Jankovic and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-04 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the neglected contribution of the American and English “psychological” school to economic theory, especially to the development and refinement of the Austrian school of economics. It argues that Frank Knight, Frank Fetter, Herbert Davenport, Philip Wicksteed and J.B. Clark among others improved on the original Austrian theory by Menger and Bohm-Bawerk by providing a coherent subjectivist foundation for the theories of production and distribution. They succeeded where economic theory before them failed – to develop the theories of interest, profit, wages and rents based solely on the principles of subjective value and marginal utility, eschewing the last remnants of the old cost of production models. This book represents a look at what mainstream economic theory might have looked like had the erasure of Mengerian Austrian price theory by Marshallian and Walrasian thoeries not taken place, and had the improvements and refinements of the Mengerian tradition, itself done by the Anglo-Saxon followers of Menger, been fully appropriated.
Book Synopsis Global Rentier Capitalism by : Balihar Sanghera
Download or read book Global Rentier Capitalism written by Balihar Sanghera and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-09-16 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent work on rent and rentierism has offered a distinctive and fresh approach to understanding and explaining contemporary capitalism. Drawing on political economy, economics, geography and sociology, this research has brought together distinct theoretical traditions in original and fertile ways to reshape the study of issues related to class, political-economic change and environmental challenges. This book critically engages with these theoretical resources to analyse and evaluate economies in the Global North and South. It offers historical, theoretical and empirical accounts of rentierism, making important cross-disciplinary and global connections. Its four parts address global rentier capitalism under the headings of historical lessons, theoretical developments and empirical studies of rentierism in the Global North and South. It will be the first book of its kind to offer a global account of rentier capitalism. It will be of immense interest to readers in economics, political economy, sociology, geography and development studies.

Book Synopsis Industrial Production Models by : Sven Dano
Download or read book Industrial Production Models written by Sven Dano and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a result of many years' interest in the economic theory of pro duction, first aroused by the reading of Professor ERICH SCHNEIDER'S classic Theorie der Produktion. A grant from the Danish-Norwegian Foundation made it possible for me to spend six months at the Institute of Economics, University of Oslo, where I became acquainted with Professor RAGNAR FRISCH'S penetrating pioneer works in this field and where the plan of writing the present book was conceived. Further studies as a Rockefeller fellow at several American univer sities, especially an eight months' stay at the Harvard Economic Research Pro ject, and a visit to the Unione Industriale di Torino have given valuable impulses. For these generous grants, and for the help and advice given by the various institutions I have visited, I am profoundly grateful. My sincere thanks are also due to the University of Copenhagen for the ex ceptionally favourable working conditions which I have enjoyed there, and to the Institute of Economics-especially its director, Professor P. N0RREGAARD RASMUSsEN-for patient and encouraging interest in my work. I also wish to thank the Institute's office staff, Miss G. SUENSON and Mrs. G. STEN0R, for their constant helpfulness, and Mrs. E. HAUGEBO for her efficient work in preparing the manuscript, which was completed in the spring of 1965.
Book Synopsis Economic Theory in the Twentieth Century, An Intellectual History - Volume I by : Roberto Marchionatti
Download or read book Economic Theory in the Twentieth Century, An Intellectual History - Volume I written by Roberto Marchionatti and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-05-20 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, set out over three volumes, provides a comprehensive history of economic thought in the 20th century with special attention to the cultural and historical background in the development of theories, to the leading or the peripheral research communities and their interactions or controversies, and finally to an assessment and critical appreciation of economic theories throughout these times. It takes as its subject matter the canon of publications by major thinkers who self-consciously conceived of themselves as 'economists' in the modern academic sense of the term. It is a history of how, when and where the discipline of Economics took root in major universities and scientific communities of economists, and evaluates the emergence of different 'schools' of thoughts. Volume I addresses economic theory in the golden age of capitalism. It considers the contributions of Marshall, Pareto, Wicksteed, Schmoller, Bohm-Bawerk, Schumpeter, Wicksell, Fisher, Veblen and other major thinkers, as well as the universities of Cambridge, Lausanne, Vienna, Berlin, and some others in US, before concluding with a look at the impact that the great war had on the discipline. This work provides a significant and original contribution to the history of economic thought and gives insight to the thinking of some of the major international figures in economics as shown in major works published across the last 130 years. It will appeal to students, scholars and the more informed reader wishing to further their understanding of the history of the discipline.
