Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kreeft considers all the fundamental elements of Christianity and Catholicism, explaining, defending and showing their relevance to our life and the world's yearnings. Here is a book to help you understand your faith more fully and to explain it to others more winningly. Like every religion, this faith has three aspects, corresponding to the three parts of the soul and filling the innate needs of all three parts. Kreeft uses these three divisions as the basic outline for his Christian apologetics. First, every religion has some beliefs, whether expressed in creeds or not, something for the intellect to know. Second, every religion has some duty or deed, some practice of program, some moral or ethical code, something for the will to choose. Finally, every religion has some liturgy, some worship, some "church", something for the body and the concrete imagination and the aesthetic sense to work at. Creed, Code and Cult; Words, Works and Worship, are a most useful way of outlining any religious faith, including the Catholic Faith of Christians. "These essays were written for Catholics by a Catholic. But I believe that nearly everything I say here will be found by the orthodox Biblical Protestant reader to be his faith as well: That solid and substantial core that C.S. Lewis called "mere Christianity" Peter Kreeft

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, George Karuvelil seeks to establish the rationality of religion and theology in the contemporary world. Theology has always required some philosophical basis. Moreover, Christian theology has had a dynamic character that enabled it to adapt to more than one philosophy depending on the need of the time. For instance, it shifted in accordance with the change from Neo-Platonism to Aristotelianism in the thirteen century. However, this dynamism has been absent since the dawn of modernity, when reason became identified with modern science to disastrous results. While the advent of postmodernism has brought the limits of modernism to light, it has done nothing to establish the rationality of religion, other than to treat religion as a cultural phenomenon along with science. This book conceives fundamental theology as a discipline that seeks religious truth in the midst of diverse perspectives, ranging from militant atheism to violent religious fanaticism.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "When Righteousness and Peace Kiss," is a collection of essays written to demonstrate the climate of fundamental, evangelistic churches in the mid-twentieth century. That climate is changing; many attitudes are changing, and it's ok to change unproductive attitudes. There have been cultural, social, emotional, historical, and educational differences, among other things, in every generation. In addition to different languages, Bible teaching and practices have been different in every country in the world. Let it be said...many churches and families have been divided over one thing or another throughout religious history. Yet, Jesus prayed for unity. In the United States, the climate of the 1950s and 1960s is totally foreign to children born in the late 1980s through early 2000s. Yet they are now teen-agers or young adults. We call them "Millennials" or "Generation Y" (Gen Y). We desire that they follow Jesus. We want them to be part of God's family, His church, but the look, sound or feel of the 1950s is not acceptable to Gen Y, so many have left the fellowship of the more fundamental churches to search for a better fit for themselves in the world of religion. In family matters, in business relationships, in social circles and realms of academia, there can be disagreements about methods of doing certain things certain ways and at the same time there can be unity of purpose and performance. However, in matters of religion and theology, we have had trouble settling or accepting those disagreements and differences and at the same time demonstrating kindness. Truthfully, we don't have to agree on anything to be kind to each other. When we are able to offer grace to one another and when we can love even those with whom we disagree, well... that is when righteousness and peace kiss! Psalm 85:10.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Direct and Fundamental Proofs of the Christian Religion an Essay in Comparative Apologetics An invitation to give the first course of lectures on the Nathaniel William Taylor foundation before the Divinity School of Yale University, with the subsequent request for their publication, furnished the occasion for the preparation of this volume. In addition to the lectures as delivered, it contains sections which were omitted because of the limitations of time. Apologetics may strengthen the faith of believers who occupy still substantially the old ground, but who desire that objections should be answered, difficulties removed, and the traditional arguments restated. This is its ordinary task. Or it may enter completely into the modern view of the world and show that Christian truth remains. The viewpoints are so divergent that the two cannot well be united; the first minimizes intellectual changes and takes for granted much which scientific men deny, while the second ignores or surrenders much which traditional theology holds as essential. This essay takes the second course and adopts the modern view of the world. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The Age of Enlightenment profoundly enriched religious and philosophical understanding and continues to influence present-day thinking. Works collected here include masterpieces by David Hume, Immanuel Kant, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, as well as religious sermons and moral debates on the issues of the day, such as the slave trade. The Age of Reason saw conflict between Protestantism and Catholicism transformed into one between faith and logic -- a debate that continues in the twenty-first century. ++++ The below data was compiled from various identification fields in the bibliographic record of this title.
