Download or read book Advanced Mathematical Methods in Science and Engineering written by S.I. Hayek and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2010-06-22 with total page 862 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classroom-tested, Advanced Mathematical Methods in Science and Engineering, Second Edition presents methods of applied mathematics that are particularly suited to address physical problems in science and engineering. Numerous examples illustrate the various methods of solution and answers to the end-of-chapter problems are included at the back of the book. After introducing integration and solution methods of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), the book presents Bessel and Legendre functions as well as the derivation and methods of solution of linear boundary value problems for physical systems in one spatial dimension governed by ODEs. It also covers complex variables, calculus, and integrals; linear partial differential equations (PDEs) in classical physics and engineering; the derivation of integral transforms; Green’s functions for ODEs and PDEs; asymptotic methods for evaluating integrals; and the asymptotic solution of ODEs. New to this edition, the final chapter offers an extensive treatment of numerical methods for solving non-linear equations, finite difference differentiation and integration, initial value and boundary value ODEs, and PDEs in mathematical physics. Chapters that cover boundary value problems and PDEs contain derivations of the governing differential equations in many fields of applied physics and engineering, such as wave mechanics, acoustics, heat flow in solids, diffusion of liquids and gases, and fluid flow. An update of a bestseller, this second edition continues to give students the strong foundation needed to apply mathematical techniques to the physical phenomena encountered in scientific and engineering applications.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Fourier Analysis & Its Applications by : Robert J Marks II
Download or read book Handbook of Fourier Analysis & Its Applications written by Robert J Marks II and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2009-01-08 with total page 799 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourier analysis has many scientific applications - in physics, number theory, combinatorics, signal processing, probability theory, statistics, option pricing, cryptography, acoustics, oceanography, optics and diffraction, geometry, and other areas. In signal processing and related fields, Fourier analysis is typically thought of as decomposing a signal into its component frequencies and their amplitudes. This practical, applications-based professional handbook comprehensively covers the theory and applications of Fourier Analysis, spanning topics from engineering mathematics, signal processing and related multidimensional transform theory, and quantum physics to elementary deterministic finance and even the foundations of western music theory. As a definitive text on Fourier Analysis, Handbook of Fourier Analysis and Its Applications is meant to replace several less comprehensive volumes on the subject, such as Processing of Multifimensional Signals by Alexandre Smirnov, Modern Sampling Theory by John J. Benedetto and Paulo J.S.G. Ferreira, Vector Space Projections by Henry Stark and Yongyi Yang and Fourier Analysis and Imaging by Ronald N. Bracewell. In addition to being primarily used as a professional handbook, it includes sample problems and their solutions at the end of each section and thus serves as a textbook for advanced undergraduate students and beginning graduate students in courses such as: Multidimensional Signals and Systems, Signal Analysis, Introduction to Shannon Sampling and Interpolation Theory, Random Variables and Stochastic Processes, and Signals and Linear Systems.
Book Synopsis 2D and 3D Image Analysis by Moments by : Jan Flusser
Download or read book 2D and 3D Image Analysis by Moments written by Jan Flusser and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 555 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Presents recent significant and rapid development in the field of 2D and 3D image analysis 2D and 3D Image Analysis by Moments, is a unique compendium of moment-based image analysis which includes traditional methods and also reflects the latest development of the field. The book presents a survey of 2D and 3D moment invariants with respect to similarity and affine spatial transformations and to image blurring and smoothing by various filters. The book comprehensively describes the mathematical background and theorems about the invariants but a large part is also devoted to practical usage of moments. Applications from various fields of computer vision, remote sensing, medical imaging, image retrieval, watermarking, and forensic analysis are demonstrated. Attention is also paid to efficient algorithms of moment computation. Key features: Presents a systematic overview of moment-based features used in 2D and 3D image analysis. Demonstrates invariant properties of moments with respect to various spatial and intensity transformations. Reviews and compares several orthogonal polynomials and respective moments. Describes efficient numerical algorithms for moment computation. It is a "classroom ready" textbook with a self-contained introduction to classifier design. The accompanying website contains around 300 lecture slides, Matlab codes, complete lists of the invariants, test images, and other supplementary material. 2D and 3D Image Analysis by Moments, is ideal for mathematicians, computer scientists, engineers, software developers, and Ph.D students involved in image analysis and recognition. Due to the addition of two introductory chapters on classifier design, the book may also serve as a self-contained textbook for graduate university courses on object recognition.
Book Synopsis Analysis of Coaxial Two-terminal Conical Capacitor by : Myron C. Selby
Download or read book Analysis of Coaxial Two-terminal Conical Capacitor written by Myron C. Selby and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adjustable capacitors having electrodes in the form of coaxial cones or frustrums have been used on rare occasions in the past; but their potential superiority to other types of capacitors for some important applications have been overlooked. The advantage of this geometry over cylindrical or disk forms is that the practical capacitance range is several times larger. An example cites the capacitance ranges of a disk, cylindrical, and conical type to be 10, 40, and 168 to one, respectively. An approximate equation was derived for this conical capacitor and close agreement is shown between computed and measured values of capacitance versus electrode displacement. Multiple cone and different shape electrodes are suggested to obtain large values of capacitance with an appreciable saving of space and further increased range of capacitance. The electric field is plotted and its construction steps for axial symmetry are given. (Author).
