Download or read book Adolescence written by Simon Meyerson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume and its companion Adolescence and Breakdown, originally published in 1975, members of the Adolescent Department at the Tavistock Clinic and of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, together with other leading experts on the subject, present a unique study of adolescence. Of all living species only human beings go through a period of adolescence – and because the conflicting influences that adolescents encounter both within themselves and in the outside world are so complex, even normal adolescence is a time of crises and adjustment. While Adolescence and Breakdown traces what happens when these crises are not sufficiently well negotiated, the present volume is devoted to the dynamics and complexities of normal adolescence. The topics debated and explored include: the nature of puberty; family relationships; change and personality; adolescent sexuality; adolescents and authority; protest and politics; adolescence and creativity; groups, subcultures and countercultures in the adolescent world.

Book Synopsis Perspectives in Creativity by : Irving Taylor

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Perspectives in Creativity experts in the psychology of creativity take stock of the field by examining their own experiences. The contributors relate how they embarked on their work, how their ideas developed, what in their thinking remained the same, what had changed, and how they evaluate their successes and failures. The introductory chapter provides a historical context for subsequent contributions. J. P. Guilford then describes the development of the field of creativity from the perspective of the Structure of Intellect model. Donald W. MacKinnon describes his work at the Institute of Personality Assessment and Research. J. W. Getzels and Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi recount in the following chapter how, though starting with a conception of creativity as a problem-solving process, they were driven through their work with artists to a conception of creativity as also a problem-finding process. In the fifth chapter, Frank M. Andrews describes his investigations of the social and psychological factors in scientific laboratories. Frank Barron examines the problem of creativity and alienation. Anne Roe analyzes the sources and development of paintings as reported by twenty artists. In the following chapter, Salvatore Maddi examines the widely held belief that social integration and a permissive environment are conducive to creative endeavor. In chapter 9, Calvin Taylor and Richard Ellison describe the development of the Utah program of assessment and intervention with regard to the creativity of children in the classroom. Next, Sidney Parnes discusses his work on "brainstorming" and its emphasis on a balance between imagination and judgment, freedom, and discipline. George Prince tells of the development of "synectics" since its early formulation and recounts its application to creative production in industry. E. Paul Torrance then examines recent creativity in the schools and describes his own efforts in devising diagnostic tests and educati

Download or read book Publications Based on Project TALENT Data written by Emily A. Campbell and published by . This book was released on 1979-01-01 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This annotated bibliography was prepared to improve the ability of Project TALENT to respond to inquiries from potential users of the data base. The intended audience includes researchers using the data base, and staff interested in TALENT data bank studies. The period of time covered by the publications listed is 1959 through November 1978. Most of the studies using Project TALENT data focus on educational/occupational development, and in particular: academic ability, school output, career choice, career guidance, career stability, college attendance, high school dropouts, race interaction with other variables, and science careers. The bibliography is divided into two main sections: (1) 137 annotated references for final reports of analytic studies using TALENT data; and (2) 111 unannotated references for TALENT-related publications that are not main reports of analytic studies. Each abstract gives the bibliographic reference, sponsor, sample and variables, and analytic procedures/findings. Abstracts are numbered consecutively and include project numbers; references not abstracted are listed separately. (Author/GK)
