Book Synopsis Spatial Learning and Reasoning Skill by : Sarah E. Goldin
Download or read book Spatial Learning and Reasoning Skill written by Sarah E. Goldin and published by . This book was released on 1981-01-01 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of studies undertaken to identify skills required for successful spatial performance. A Study of requirements for distance estimation, self-orientation, and object location tasks supported our assumption that the type of spatial knowledge acquired depends on the learner's information source. A second study showed that filmed traversal of an unfamiliar route provides as much knowledge about landmarks, landmark sequence, and distances as a live tour, but not sufficient information about angles of turns to allow accurate self-orientation. Studies of cognitive mapping skill showed that good mappers excel at acquiring knowledge from navigation or maps, at manipulating information in memory, and in visual memory, visualization, and spatial orientation ability. Good and poor mappers do not differ in map reading, map interpretation, or navigation skill. Examination of two different strategies for learning a new environment from navigation indicated potential benefits from training strategies compatible with the learner's abilities. (Author).

Book Synopsis Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) by : Ralf Doerner
Download or read book Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) written by Ralf Doerner and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-12 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive textbook offers a scientifically sound and at the same time practical introduction to Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR). Readers will gain the theoretical foundation needed to design, implement or enhance VR/AR systems, evaluate and improve user interfaces and applications using VR/AR methods, assess and enrich user experiences, and develop a deeper understanding of how to apply VR/AR techniques. Whether utilizing the book for a principal course of study or reference reading, students of computer science, education, media, natural sciences, engineering and other subject areas can benefit from its in-depth content and vivid explanation. The modular structure allows selective sequencing of topics to the requirements of each teaching unit and provides an easy-to-use format from which to choose specific themes for individual self-study. Instructors are provided with extensive materials for creating courses as well as a foundational text upon which to build their advanced topics. The book enables users from both research and industry to deal with the subject in detail so they can properly assess the extent and benefits of VR/AR deployment and determine required resources. Technology enthusiasts and professionals can learn about the current status quo in the field of VR/AR and interested newcomers can gain insight into this fascinating world. Grounded on a solid scientific foundation, this textbook, addresses topics such as perceptual aspects of VR/AR, input and output devices including tracking, interactions in virtual worlds, real-time aspects of VR/AR systems and the authoring of VR/AR applications in addition to providing a broad collection of case studies.
Book Synopsis Assessing the Impact of Psychomotor and Leadership Selection Tests on the Excellence in Armor Program by : Scott E. Graham
Download or read book Assessing the Impact of Psychomotor and Leadership Selection Tests on the Excellence in Armor Program written by Scott E. Graham and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of the Skills Selection and Sustainment (S3) program, this research evaluated the potential effectiveness of spatial, psychomotor, and leadership scales as additional selection criteria for the Excellence in Armor (EIA) program. The S3 predictor tests were administered to 1,642 One Station Unit Training (OSUT) soldiers at the Fort Knox reception station. In addition, 479 19K (M1 tank crewmen) OSUT soldiers were given an engagement tank gunnery test on the high-fidelity Institutional Conduct of Fire Trainer (I-COFT). The I-COFT test included offensive and defensive engagements fired in normal and degraded operational modes. The primary analysis evaluated I-COFT speed and accuracy as a function of S3 spatial/psychomotor scores. The S3 spatial/psychomotor tests were a strong predictor of simulated tank gunnery performance, yielding a correlation of .54 with I-COFT speed/accuracy. The 2-1/2-month interval between the predictor and criterion tests suggests that the relationship should remain stable over time, and the relationship shrank only slightly when the EIA soldiers were given additional training. The results indicate that including the S3 tests in the EIA selection process would result in EIA graduates with stronger gunnery skills. Keywords: Personnel selection, Gunnery prediction, Unit conduct of fire trainer, Performance(human). (sdw).
Book Synopsis Analysis of Emerging Digital and Back-up Training Requirements by : Laura A. Ford
Download or read book Analysis of Emerging Digital and Back-up Training Requirements written by Laura A. Ford and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digitization is the future of the Army. However, along with digitization come training and personnel implications. This report discusses training issues associated with digitization, specifically those that address a need to train and maintain backup along with digital skills. Backup skills are the individual and collective skills required when digital systems are degraded or unavailable. The study focused on the digital M1A2 Abrams Main Battle training program as an exemplar. Lessons learned about digital and backup training requirements should be applied in the M2A3 training program. The study investigated issues that are applicable to a wide range of digital applications and training conditions. The study examined individual and collective tasks that support tank operations and found both digital and backup tasks to be poorly defined, particularly in collective performance. A method for analysis is described and analytic results reported. The study also outlines the current state of training armor and infantry soldiers and the impact that increased digitization may have on training pipelines. The study employed a series of expert groups to define issues and formulate recommendations. These groups included users, developers, researchers, and trainers with a wide spectrum of experience and viewpoints. Expert group results are reported and include 15 primary issues and accompanying recommendations.
