Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the final book in the three book "Fellowship" series and contains a comprehensive glossary that covers the subject material in all three, which is a great help to pastors, Bible study teachers or group leaders, as well as the individual reader, to find related texts and their explanation. A unique feature of these books is that each chapter is independent of the others so study can be selected at random to grow in understanding of God's word according to the need of the class or reader. One reason for texts next to the subjects being studied is to emphasize that all insights explained are not just an opinion but can be confirmed by a biblical search into the deeper truths of God's revelation to us with the Holy Spirit as our guide (1 Cor. 2:1-13). Read the comments in the foreword list. William H. Mulder The author from his earliest childhood memory believed in Jesus and took a public stand for Christ in his late teens. The urge to write was there in early youth and resulted in a published nature story at age thirteen. Many poems followed but writing slowed while raising and providing a good home and a Christian education for seven children. But when Israel became a nation again in 1948, in response to questions asked by others, he wrote in essay form Bible based answers about many things. These typed handouts, some fifty years old, but now updated to be relevant for today, provide the basis for all the Fellowship series. As a former deacon, elder and as a trained evangelist he challenges everyone to build their Christian faith on biblical truth. These books help you find them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work, originally published as one volume in the Peter Lang series, Issues in Systematic Theology, is now available in two volumes. In the first volume, Gary Deddo shows how Barth grasped the nature of relations as intrinsic to the being and act of the Triune God and to God's relations to us and our relationship to God in Christ. Deddo then completes his comprehensive survey showing how Barth saw the reality of the divine relationships analogically pertains, by grace, to humanity and its creaturely relationships. Barth's doctrine of God, Christology, and theological anthropology are all intrinsically onto-relational (to borrow a term coined by Thomas F. Torrance). In the second volume, Deddo shows how Barth's relational theology is intrinsically ethical. As a case study Deddo explicates Barth's ethical teaching on the relationship between parents and children found in section 54 of his chapter on Freedom in Fellowship in CD, III/4. He further demonstrates the relevance and fruitfulness of Barth's theology of relations for critically engaging other theological and non-theological views of the family and for shedding ethical light on a wide range of contemporary issues facing families, especially in the North American context. Karl Barth is known for his insight into the inseparability of act and being in God. What is less recognized is that Barth's theological understanding of dynamic, covenantal relationship is also essential to his doctrine of the Triune God, his Christology and theological anthropology. God is revealed in Jesus Christ to be one in act, being and relation. Humanity is revealed in Jesus Christ to be essentially a unity of act, being and relation. The failure to see the ethical implications of Barth's theology can be traced in large part to the failure to gasp how Barth's understanding of God's being and act is also essentially relational. Deddo's work corrects this oversight and opens up the door to better comprehension of Barth's trinitarian doctrine of God, his Christology, anthropology and ethics.

Book excerpt: All over the world, the deeper conviction becomes obvious that the low state of the spiritual life of Christians is due to the fact that they do not realize that the aim and object of conversion is to bring the soul even here on earth, to a daily fellowship with the Father in heaven. When once this truth has been accepted, the believer will perceive how indispensable it is to the spiritual life of a Christian, to take time each day with God's Word and in prayer, to wait upon God for His presence and His love to be revealed. But how can Christians be taught this lesson, and to live in obedience to it? The first thing is that they must be convinced of the great need of daily fellowship with God. They must be brought under the impression, that it is not enough at conversion to accept forgiveness of sins, or even to surrender themselves to God. That is only a beginning. The young believer must understand that he has no power of his own to maintain his spiritual life. No, he needs each day to receive new grace from heaven through intercourse with the Lord Jesus. This cannot be obtained by a hasty prayer, or a superficial reading of a few verses from God's Word. He must take time quietly and deliberately to come into God's presence, to feel his weakness, and his need, and to wait upon God through His Holy Spirit, to renew the heavenly light and life in his heart. Then he may rightly expect to be kept by the power of Christ throughout the day, and all its temptations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few figures in church history that died before the age of thirty have left such a lasting legacy as Robert Murray M’Cheyne (1813–43). His name is virtually synonymous with the pursuit of personal holiness. M’Cheyne was a living testimony to Scripture’s command to “let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” (1 Tim 4:12). His ardent praying, preaching, and progress in godliness continue to captivate countless Christians around the world. The model of piety found in M’Cheyne’s life and ministry provides needed encouragement for properly understanding biblical spirituality. What was the main fuel of his spirituality? Love for Jesus Christ. In A Communion of Love, Jordan Stone argues that rightly understanding M’Cheyne’s spirituality must begin with the fundamental issue of why he pursued the means of grace as he did, before reckoning with how he used those means. Such a reorientation reveals that loving communion with Christ was the all-consuming, driving force for M’Cheyne’s vision of the Christian life.

Book excerpt: "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28 NLT) When we think about what Jesus's words promise and who is actually saying them, they become some of the most welcoming words ever spoken. In a world that is unraveling with anxiety and stress, no one less than Jesus offers us His peace. Yet it's hard to feel peaceful while waiting for a biopsy result, grieving a lost relationship, or walking through unemployment. How do we receive and enjoy the peace God offers during hard times? The answer is prayer that is an everyday, heart-to-heart relationship with the Creator. With scriptural insights and inviting storytelling, James Banks shows how daily friendship with God brings us peace as we experience anxieties, suffer past hurts, and face chronic difficulties. The peace Jesus offers us is more than just words. It's healing for our hurts and calm for our troubled hearts. It's love and acceptance when others misunderstand us and push us away. It's the freedom of a new identity in Him, defined not by how good we are but by how good He is. Through prayer God transforms the way His followers see themselves and others.
