Book Synopsis Analytic Computational Complexity by : J.F. Traub
Download or read book Analytic Computational Complexity written by J.F. Traub and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analytic Computational Complexity contains the proceedings of the Symposium on Analytic Computational Complexity held by the Computer Science Department, Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on April 7-8, 1975. The symposium provided a forum for assessing progress made in analytic computational complexity and covered topics ranging from strict lower and upper bounds on iterative computational complexity to numerical stability of iterations for solution of nonlinear equations and large linear systems. Comprised of 14 chapters, this book begins with an introduction to analytic computational complexity before turning to proof techniques used in analytic complexity. Subsequent chapters focus on the complexity of obtaining starting points for solving operator equations by Newton's method; maximal order of multipoint iterations using n evaluations; the use of integrals in the solution of nonlinear equations in N dimensions; and the complexity of differential equations. Algebraic constructions in an analytic setting are also discussed, along with the computational complexity of approximation operators. This monograph will be of interest to students and practitioners in the fields of applied mathematics and computer science.
Book Synopsis Orthomodular Lattices by : Gudrun Kalmbach
Download or read book Orthomodular Lattices written by Gudrun Kalmbach and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has evolved from a set of lecture notes of a course on orthomodular lattices given at the University of Ulm. Most concepts are developed from their very first notions, but in some instances basic set theory and Hilbert space theory may be needed. The text is in general independent of the exercises and supplementary remarks. The book can be used for a general lecture on orthomodular lattices and also for seminars on special geometrical or logical topics. As the first monograph in the field it makes the widely spread results on orthomodular lattices more easily accessible for researchers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the occasion of the sixtieth birthday of Andre Lichnerowicz a number of his friends, many of whom have been his students or coworkers, decided to celebrate this event by preparing a jubilee volume of contributed articles in the two main fields of research marked by Lichnerowicz's work, namely differential geometry and mathematical physics. Limitations of space and time did not enable us to include papers from all Lichnerowicz's friends nor from all his former students. It was equally impossible to reflect in a single book the great variety of subjects tackled by Lichnerowicz. In spite of these limitations, we hope that this book reflects some of the present trends of fields in which he worked, and some of the subjects to which he contributed in his long - and not yet finished - career. This career was very much marked by the influence of his masters, Elie Cartan who introduced him to research in mathematics, mainly in geometry and its relations with mathematical physics, and Georges Darmois who developed his interest for mechanics and physics, especially the theory of relativity and electromagnetism. This par ticular combination, and his personal talent, made of him a natural scientific heir and continuator of the French mathematical physics school in the tradition of Henri Poincare. Some of his works would even be best qualified by a new field name, that of physical ma thematics: branches of pure mathematics entirely motivated by physics.

Book Synopsis General Topology II by : A. V. Arhangel' skii
Download or read book General Topology II written by A. V. Arhangel' skii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Compactness is related to a number of fundamental concepts of mathemat ics. Particularly important are compact Hausdorff spaces or compacta. Com pactness appeared in mathematics for the first time as one of the main topo logical properties of an interval, a square, a sphere and any closed, bounded subset of a finite dimensional Euclidean space. Once it was realized that pre cisely this property was responsible for a series of fundamental facts related to those sets such as boundedness and uniform continuity of continuous func tions defined on them, compactness was given an abstract definition in the language of general topology reaching far beyond the class of metric spaces. This immensely extended the realm of application of this concept (including in particular, function spaces of quite general nature). The fact, that general topology provided an adequate language for a description of the concept of compactness and secured a natural medium for its harmonious development is a major credit to this area of mathematics. The final formulation of a general definition of compactness and the creation of the foundations of the theory of compact topological spaces are due to P.S. Aleksandrov and Urysohn (see Aleksandrov and Urysohn (1971)).
Book Synopsis General Topology I by : A.V. Arkhangel'skii
Download or read book General Topology I written by A.V. Arkhangel'skii and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first of the encyclopaedia volumes devoted to general topology. It has two parts. The first outlines the basic concepts and constructions of general topology, including several topics which have not previously been covered in English language texts. The second part presents a survey of dimension theory, from the very beginnings to the most important recent developments. The principal ideas and methods are treated in detail, and the main results are provided with sketches of proofs. The authors have suceeded admirably in the difficult task of writing a book which will not only be accessible to the general scientist and the undergraduate, but will also appeal to the professional mathematician. The authors' efforts to detail the relationship between more specialized topics and the central themes of topology give the book a broad scholarly appeal which far transcends narrow disciplinary lines.

Book Synopsis New Directions in Mathematics Education by : G. Brian Greer
Download or read book New Directions in Mathematics Education written by G. Brian Greer and published by Other. This book was released on 1989 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chicago Renaissance has long been considered a less important literary movement for American modernism than the Harlem Renaissance. The Chicago Renaissance had its origin around the turn of the nineteenth century, from 1890 to 1910, gathered momentum in the 30s, and paved the way for the postmodern and postcolonial development in American literature even since. Yoshinobu Hakutani aims to shed light on this seldom studied, yet pivotal period, by studying some of it's most influential works and authors, from Theodore Dreiser in the late 1800's to Richard Wright through the mid 1900's.
