Book excerpt: This book is about revelation, poetry as something that can reveal that presence inside the heart or emotions waiting to be found, It is always searching for that Haiku moment. Searching for those words that allow the dive into the depth of the heart to there find presence, insight and another way of looking at and for the hidden. The window through which much of this is seen and written has had its inspiration in writings such as the Mundaka Upanisad: “Bright but hidden, the Self dwells in the Heart. Everything that moves and breathes lives in the Self.” From the poem The Heart’s Door: Into the vortex toward door he’s lead The heart pulsates rhythms as it opens In hearts chamber pineal and amrita wed As the dwller is found, the hidden chosen May you touch that Haiku moment on the way to Satori.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The marginalisation of Muslims in India has recently been the subject of heated public debate. In these discussions, however, Muslim women are often either overlooked or treated as a homogenous group with a common set of interests. Focusing on the narratives of women living in a predominantly Muslim colony in South Delhi, this book attempts to demonstrate the complexity of their lives and the multiple levels of insecurity they face. Unlike other studies on Indian Muslims that focus on Islam as a defining factor, this book highlights the ways in which religious identity intersects with other identities including class/status, regional affiliation and gender. The author also sheds light on the impact of such events as the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 and the subsequent riots, the Gujarat communal carnage in 2002, and the anti-Sikh violence in New Delhi in 1984, along with the rise of Hindutva, and growing Islamophobia experienced worldwide in the post-9/11 period — on the articulation of identities at the local level and increasing religion-based spatial segregation in Indian cities. The study highlights how these incidents combine in different ways to increase the sense of marginalisation experienced by Muslims at the level of the locality. Understanding the need to look beyond preconceived religious categories, this book will serve as essential reading for those interested in sociology, anthropology, gender, religious and urban studies, as well as policymakers and organisations concerned with issues related to religious minorities in India.

Book excerpt: For the first time, the whole field of organoboronic acids is presented in one comprehensive handbook. Professor Dennis Hall, a rising star within the community, covers all aspects of this important substance class, including applications in chemistry, biology and medicine. Starting with an introduction to the structure, properties, and preparation of boronic acid derivatives, together with an overview of their reactions and applications, the book goes on to look at metal-catalyzed borylation of alkanes and arenas, coupling reactions and rhodium-catalyzed additions of boronic acids to alkenes and carbonyl compounds. There follows chapters on copper-promoted C-O and C-N cross-coupling of boronic acids, recent applications in organic synthesis, as well as alpha-haloalkylboronic esters in asymmetric synthesis. Later sections deal with cycloadditions, organoboronic acids, oxazaborolidines as asymmetric inducers, and boronic acid based receptors and sensors. The whole is rounded off with experimental procedures, making this invaluable reading for organic, catalytic and medicinal chemists, as well as those working in organometallics.

The book focuses on the synthesis of targeted polymers with specific properties using macromolecular architecture. Various controlled polymerization techniques such as ionic, metathesis and recently developed 'living'/controlled polymerization and some of their combinations are covered. Polymers with different topologies such as block and graft copolymers, hyper branched polymers, heteroarm polymers, dentrimers, segmented networks and supramolecular systems are presented with emphasis on the special characteristics that influence their amphiphilic, liquid crystalline, complexation, thermo- and photosensitive and catalytic properties. The uses of such macromolecular structures in various fields such as surface modifiers, catalysts and coating and biomedical applications are also discussed.
