Book Synopsis Sexe, amour et société by : Armand Lequeux
Download or read book Sexe, amour et société written by Armand Lequeux and published by . This book was released on 2013-10-03 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Comment rester amants quand on devient parents ?

Book Synopsis La société amoureuse by : Arrigo Colombo
Download or read book La société amoureuse written by Arrigo Colombo and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2004 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis La transformation de l'intimité by : Anthony Giddens
Download or read book La transformation de l'intimité written by Anthony Giddens and published by Editions du Rouergue. This book was released on 2004 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis The Erotic Margin by : Irvin C. Schick
Download or read book The Erotic Margin written by Irvin C. Schick and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gender and sexuality have long held an important place in western attitudes towards the people and regions of the world-from the titillating accounts of harem life in the Middle East to terrifying captivity narratives of North America. The Erotic Margin is a first attempt to pull together the large, disparate, and often contradictory literature, and view it as a corpus. Schick argues that such images served to construct spatial difference, and thereby helped Europe represent its own place in the world during an age of rapid geographical expansion. Informed by the recent literature on human geography as well as feminist and postcolonial theory, The Erotic Margin focuses on erotica and sexual anthropology as well as travel literature in which, from the eighteenth century on, both traveler and destination were portrayed in unmistakably gendered and sexualized terms. Reviewing examples ranging from the New World to India, the Near East to black Africa, and the South sea islands to the Barbary Coast, the book reflects on why foreign women were variously portrayed as alluring or threatening, foreign men as effeminate weaklings or dangerous rapists, and foreign lands as sexual idylls or hearts of darkness.

Book Synopsis Birth and Death in Nineteenth-Century French Culture by :
Download or read book Birth and Death in Nineteenth-Century French Culture written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume draws contributors from around the globe who represent the full range of approaches to scholarship in nineteenth-century French studies: historical, literary, cultural, art historical, philosophical, and comparative. The theme of the volume – Birth and Death – is one with particular resonance for nineteenth-century French studies, since the nineteenth century is commonly perceived as an age of new life and renovation. It is the epoch that witnessed an efflorescence of industrial and artistic progress, the birth of the individual and the birth of the novel, and the creation of an urban population in the major demographic shift from the rural provinces to Paris. At the same time, however, it is the century of Decadence and degeneration theory, marked by a prominent morbid aesthetic in the artistic sphere and a fascination with criminality, moral decay and the pathologization of racial and sexual minorities in the scientific discourses. It is also the century in which reflection on processes of artistic creation begins to problematize concepts of mimetic representation, the function of the author and the status of the text. In the context of the dialectical quality of nineteenth-century French culture, caught between an obsession with the new and innovative and a paranoid sense of its own encroaching decay, the twin themes of birth and death open onto a variety of issues – literary, social, historical, artistic – which are explored, interrogated and reassessed in the essays contained in this volume.

Book Synopsis Pornographic Archaeology by : Zrinka Stahuljak
Download or read book Pornographic Archaeology written by Zrinka Stahuljak and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2012-10-08 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Pornographic Archaeology: Medicine, Medievalism, and the Invention of the French Nation, Zrinka Stahuljak explores the connections and fissures between the history of sexuality, nineteenth-century views of the Middle Ages, and the conceptualization of modern France. This cultural history uncovers the determinant role that the sexuality of the Middle Ages played in nineteenth-century French identity. Stahuljak's provocative study of sex, blood, race, and love in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century medical and historical literature demonstrates how French medicine's obsession with the medieval past helped to define European sexuality, race, public health policy, marriage, family, and the conceptualization of the Middle Ages. Stahuljak reveals the connections between the medieval military order of the Templars and the 1830 colonization of Algeria, between a fifteenth-century French marshal and the development of Richard von Krafft-Ebing's theory of sadism, between courtly love and the 1884 law on divorce. Although the developing discipline of medieval studies eventually rejected the influence of these medical philologists, the convergence of medievalism and medicine shaped modern capitalist French society and established a vision of the Middle Ages that survives today.
Book Synopsis Amour et sexualité by : Philippe Ariès
Download or read book Amour et sexualité written by Philippe Ariès and published by Hachette Pluriel Editions. This book was released on 2012 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Your guest at dinner kisses you. What does it mean? Where does it lead? Does kissing necessarily imply more, and if so how much? These and similar questions of amorous ethics and erotic disquisition are central to our everyday intimate public lives and they are the lost object of the law of love, the lex amatoria collated and presented here.
Book Synopsis Sexe et Sensualité by : Giulia Sissa
Download or read book Sexe et Sensualité written by Giulia Sissa and published by Odile Jacob. This book was released on 2011-09-08 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
