Then Kip DuParc is a 17-year-old Alphanaut genetically optimized to explore the planets of the star Alpha Centauri to find a place to expand human habitation. He has been raised and trained at the Galactic Academy. A policy of isolation from outside ties intends to avoid emotional separations from family and loved ones when Alphanauts leave on centuries-long missions. The Galactic Academy commandant violates the isolation policy by sending Kip to lecture at a nearby high school. There he meets junior student Ginger Hone. Kip discovers a plan to ease the earth’s overpopulation problem by using moon material to build human habitations in rings around the earth. Kip wants to work on it. The Galactic Academy leaders oppose building the rings because it would make the mission to find a habitable planet near Alpha Centauri unnecessary and try to prevent Kip from working on it. Ginger and Kip together find support for the ring plan from an industrialist and a political leader. Kip and Ginger become kidnap victims when a clan of international gangsters wishing to improve the clan’s bloodline seeks two genetically superior Alphanauts. They finally escape with the help of some friendly space beings and their flying vehicles.

Book excerpt: It's 2110 and Creid Xerkler, the creator of the Molecular Advantage Machine - a virtual system that facilitates instantaneous access to all of humanity's knowledge and experience - is unwillingly entangled in a government Council plot to prove the existence of an illegally engineered race called the Imagofas. Unfortunately Xerkler knows more than he should and fears what the Council might discover. The Imagofas are revered by many as the next step in human evolution - a nano-DNA hybrid: part human, part machine - but to the Council they are a dangerous aberration and a threat to the very existence of humankind. In their quest to prove this crime against humanity, the Council plans on abducting specimens from the Order sanctioned research facility on Mars. When the kidnapping takes an unexpected turn and the Imagofas are forced to become fugitives, the Council vows to destroy them - while others plan to capitalize on their existence. The Imagofas, in a determined bid to return to Mars, must draw upon their still developing and unique skills to survive the dangers of Earth. Along the way, they are helped by three unexpected and unlikely heroes: the Cadet, a hard core gamer; Ochbo, a cleanlife pervert; and Prometheus, an enlightenment-seeking MAMintelligence, who, while on his own secret quest, ultimately holds the answers to everyone's survival.
Book Synopsis Science Fiction Magazine Story Index, 1926-1995 by : Terry A. Murray
Download or read book Science Fiction Magazine Story Index, 1926-1995 written by Terry A. Murray and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the appearance of the first science fiction magazine in 1926, thousands of short stories have been published in periodicals devoted to the genre. These stories cover a wide range of subjects, from spacecraft to the human condition, and feature little-known authors as well as masters like Ellison and Asimov. In the past, finding which issue of what magazine ran a certain story was nearly impossible. This much-needed reference tool provides valuable assistance in the daunting task of locating short stories published in science fiction magazines, providing exhaustive indexes to magazines, authors, and titles, allowing a variety of options for research on 34,000 stories appearing in nearly 5,000 issues of 133 genre magazines. Stories from all major American publications, as well as from several minor periodicals, are indexed. Also included is an appendix of the best known and most prolific contributors, giving the titles of all their stories in this work (necessary because the huge author index does not show titles). A guide to how to use this book clarifies its features for the researcher.
