Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the catalyst role of Edward Long in the development of doctrines of British and European racial supremacy in the critical last quarter of the 18th century through his three volume History of Jamaica published in London in 1774. Long, with acrid vehemence, denigrated and libelled Africa, Africans and people of African ancestry. It was a work of race vilification which today is still unfortunately the creed of many, and which still has ramifications in Britain today, exemplified by the unjust and unfair treatment of many black people.

Computer networks, cloud computing, smartphones, embedded devices and the Internet of Things have expanded the role of digital forensics beyond traditional computer crime investigations. Practically every crime now involves some aspect of digital evidence; digital forensics provides the techniques and tools to articulate this evidence in legal proceedings. Digital forensics also has myriad intelligence applications; furthermore, it has a vital role in cyber security – investigations of security breaches yield valuable information that can be used to design more secure and resilient systems. This book, Advances in Digital Forensics XIX, is the nineteenth volume in the annual series produced by the IFIP Working Group 11.9 on Digital Forensics, an international community of scientists, engineers and practitioners dedicated to advancing the state of the art of research and practice in digital forensics. The book presents original research results and innovative applications in digital forensics. Also, it highlights some of the major technical and legal issues related to digital evidence and electronic crime investigations. This volume contains fourteen revised and edited chapters based on papers presented at the Nineteenth IFIP WG 11.9 International Conference on Digital Forensics held at SRI International in Arlington, Virginia, USA on January 30-31, 2023. Book Synopsis Landmark Cases in Consumer Law by : Jodi Gardner
Download or read book Landmark Cases in Consumer Law written by Jodi Gardner and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the history of the common law foundations of consumer law, and encourages readers to rethink the role that consumer law plays in our society. Consumer law is often constructed as purely statute-based law. However as this collection will demonstrate this is far from the truth. Much of the history of the common law concerns consumer transactions and markets. Case law has often established or modified the ground rules of consumer markets, has had a patterning effect on the economic organisation of markets, and has expressed cultural visions of the market and consumers. An analysis of landmark cases of consumer law allows many traditional cases to be viewed through a new and distinct lens, providing significant academic and intellectual value. The collection also includes a unique socio-legal perspective, considering the role that consumer law has played in addressing racial discrimination, LGBTQ challenges and the rights of women. This collection of landmark cases demonstrates the theoretical and practical significance of consumer law through a wide range of contributions by distinguished authors from the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States and Australia.

Book Synopsis The Interaction of Contract Law and Tort and Property Law in Europe by : Christian von Bar
Download or read book The Interaction of Contract Law and Tort and Property Law in Europe written by Christian von Bar and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2009-04-27 with total page 574 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against the background of the creation of an EU-wide frame of reference for private law relevant to the Common Market, this study, which was requested by the EU Commission, analyses the dovetailing between contract and tort law on the one hand, and between contract and property law on the other. The study examines the legal orders of almost all the Member States of the EU, illustrates the differences between contractual and non-contractual liability and evaluates the different systems of the transfer of property, of movable and immovable securities as well as trust law. The study comes to the conclusion that the intensive considerations on the creation of a model-law in the area of European private law do not allow these thoughts to be limited to contract law. Such a limitation to the scope of the regarding of this area would probably cause more problems than it would solve, or at any rate not do justice to the needs of the Common Market.
