Book excerpt: Im on the road again in my car. I think Ive been here before it looks familiar to me. The ocean looks different when the moon hits it at night. Even the road looks longer from the shine. The same mountains and curves, nothing has changed since I last came out this way. Somehow I feel this trip is different though like it has a reason for my coming. Im in the driveway now. Lots of cars are here. The house is the same as always. Im looking up at the window no one is there as usual. I put my key in the door and open it as I walk inside. It seems like I should know Im home but this isnt my house. Its always the same feeling and I tell myself maybe tonight will be different. I reach the stairs and there he is waiting for me. His hand is outstretched but I wont take it I cant breathe. I have to leave. Im in my car now and driving away fast. Hes in the window now looking at me as I drive away. I can see you standing there in the distance, I know youre there. I can hear your voice, I know youre near me. You are just the way I imagined you too be. ***I have had this dream since I was 13 years old ***
Download or read book Spiritual Films written by James Piper and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-08-02 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, centuries even, when people thought of spirituality, they thought only of religion. I aim to stretch the tent of spirituality in this e-book to include secular experience. My particular approach to secular spirituality is through the medium of film. Characters in the 43 films I discuss come to spirituality without religion. In some of these films, religion nibbles at the edges of events, as when, in the Brazilian film Central Station, Dora, the cynical letter writer, leaves hard-bitten Rio with a boy she hopes to return to his father and finds herself surrounded by evangelicals, shrines, and churches. She does not have any kind of religious conversion, but there is no denying that the piety of the countryside softened her and escorted her into spirituality. Now and then I quote assorted Buddhists, Muslims, Christians and Jews, but usually only when their remarks throw light on secular matters. I have avoided relying on muddled mystics who write about the Great Turning Cosmic Oneness of Everything. I dont know what they are talking about.
Book Synopsis The Mother in/and French Literature by :
Download or read book The Mother in/and French Literature written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-22 with total page 261 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this volume investigate maternity and the figure of the mother in French literature from France, Switzerland, Quebec and Africa, from the seventeenth century to the present. Drawing on cultural history, psychoanalysis, and feminist theory, as well as more traditional methods, they present maternity as a source of frustration and of joy, mothers as repressed and revered, daughters as wounded and loving, sons as domineering and dependent. Indeed, few things are simple where mothers — and especially where writing about mothers — are concerned.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hi. This is a book about making friends and sharing faith. It’s also about sock balls, bloodsuckers, an epidemic of loneliness, and the RSVP Bible. It’s about not grabbing people by the head, not lying to ourselves as we tell the truth, not being a coward, and not letting the bad stories carry the day. It’s about crucifying our excuses. It’s about showing hospitality, paying attention, and embracing risk. It’s about building real relationships and loving people and sharing Jesus. And it’s a little bit about a homeless man named Mona Lisa. Authors Jeremy Ashworth and Fred Bernhard are pastors. Both are nice; neither is famous. Book Synopsis Earth to God – In The Beginning by : David Bastian Marshall
Download or read book Earth to God – In The Beginning written by David Bastian Marshall and published by Writers Republic LLC. This book was released on 2022-07-08 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Johann has never been a religious person, but recently he has been drawn to read the Bible. Climate change concerns him. “Revelations” describes the end of times, but it does not make sense. “Genesis” is a very simple account of the beginning of human existence, but it seems incomplete and inaccurate. Of course, the authors of The Bible did not know as much about Earth and life as we do now. Scientific methods have given us a much more detailed understanding of this existence; it is much more complex than religion portrays. Johann embarks on a journey to convince people that science and religion should complement one another. Johann believes God is the Master Scientist, Designer and Engineer who created humans with a subset of the same intelligence as Himself. He assigned humans to be stewards of the Earth he created, and now we have the immense responsibility and challenge to clean up the mess we have made. Will scientific discovery and technical advancement be embraced by religion and politics before Earth becomes uninhabitable by humans? Can Johann help convince humans that God is not just religion?

Book Synopsis Sex, Love, and Gender by : Helga Varden
Download or read book Sex, Love, and Gender written by Helga Varden and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2020-05-27 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sex, Love, and Gender is the first volume to present a comprehensive philosophical theory that brings together all of Kant's practical philosophy — found across his works on ethics, justice, anthropology, history, and religion — and provide a critique of emotionally healthy and morally permissible sexual, loving, gendered being. By rethinking Kant's work on human nature and making space for sex, love, and gender within his moral accounts of freedom, the book shows how, despite his austere and even anti-sex, cisist, sexist, and heterosexist reputation, Kant's writings on happiness and virtue (Part I) and right (Part II) in fact yield fertile philosophical ground on which we can explore specific contemporary issues such as abortion, sexual orientation, sexual or gendered identity, marriage, trade in sexual services, and sex- or gender-based oppression. Indeed, Kant's philosophy provides us with resources to appreciate and value the diversity of human ways of loving and the existential importance of our embodied, social selves. Structured on a thematic basis, with introductions to assist those new to Kant's philosophy, this book will be a valuable resource for anyone who cares about these issues and wants to make sense of them.
