Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on Faith That Will Not Shrink chronicles the lives of Aaron W. Izeogu and Mary T. Izeogu—two of the pioneers of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Ogba, the former Ahoada Division and the former eastern Nigeria. They were a God-fearing couple raised in non-Christian families in a rural village in southeastern Nigeria but accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ and became a beacon of light far beyond their community. He was known as faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a friend to many, and she was known in her community as a mother of all. Organized into eight chapters, the book describes the ancestral roots of A. W. Izeogu and Mary T. Izeogu; their parental background; the historic period and society in which they grew up in Ede, a rural community in southeastern Nigeria; and the various life challenges they faced growing up and lived to raise their eight children, some of who are in Nigeria and others in the United States of America. After a description of A. W. and M. T. Izeogu’s preparation for life of work and service for humanity and their faith walk with God, the book focuses on the family that raised their eight children (three men and five women). It further describes their love for God and humanity and giving back to their communities a positive influence even where and when they did not receive such goodwill and support to survive in their youthful years. Other subjects presented are forgiveness of those who hated and wronged them multiple times, their dependence on God to fight the battle for them, and their legacy of faith and trust in God in times of trouble. Chukudi V. Izeogu, Professor Emeritus at Alabama A&M University, Huntsville, Alabama, USA, is the second son of A. W. and M. T. Izeogu.

Book excerpt: An unforgettable debut novel about a boy who goes missing, a family that is torn apart, and a nation on the brink During the rainy season of 1995, in the bustling town of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, one family's life is disrupted by the sudden disappearance of seventeen-year-old Paul Utu, beloved brother and son. As they grapple with the sudden loss of their darling boy, they embark on a painful and moving journey of immense power which changes their lives forever and shatters the fragile ecosystem of their once ordered family. Ajie, the youngest sibling, is burdened with the guilt of having seen Paul last and convinced that his vanished brother was betrayed long ago. But his search for the truth uncovers hidden family secrets and reawakens old, long forgotten ghosts as rumours of police brutality, oil shortages, and frenzied student protests serve as a backdrop to his pursuit. In a tale that moves seamlessly back and forth through time, Ajie relives a trip to the family's ancestral village where, together, he and his family listen to the myths of how their people settled there, while the villagers argue over the mysterious Company, who found oil on their land and will do anything to guarantee support. As the story builds towards its stunning conclusion, it becomes clear that only once past and present come to a crossroads will Ajie and his family finally find the answers they have been searching for. And After Many Days introduces Ile's spellbinding ability to tightly weave together personal and political loss until, inevitably, the two threads become nearly indistinguishable. It is a masterful story of childhood, of the delicate, complex balance between the powerful and the powerless, and a searing portrait of a community as the old order gives way to the new.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ogba people comprise fourteen extended families divided into clans, and occupy am area of about 600 km in the Niger flood plain. This study covers their origns, environment, politcal, economic and social institutions, and cultural practices. It also considers the impact of colonialism and the activities of the Christian missionaries on the Ogba, in the context of the various etnic groups in Nigeria thus affected. It argues that although the Ogba lost much under colonial rule, their resilience and adaptability, in common with many Nigerian ethnic groups was the key to their cultural renewal and adaptation to the modern era. The author further suggests that rather than perceiving Nigerian history as a series of micro- histories of different ethnic groups, it is closer to the truth to understand Nigeria as a loose associations of people with a common history and common cultural traits - all to the good, given their common destiny.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study of the House of Skulls, one of the lost cultures of the Niger Delta. The House of Skulls was a European label for a house built by some Niger Delta communities with the skulls of their enemies killed in war. The case is used to argue that barbarism is not endemic to African Culture, but rather part of the primitive instinct of man and the House of Skulls, as evidence of human sacrifice, and headhunting in the Niger Delta and its hinterland in pre-colonial times was not worse than some of the practices, both African and European, which have been documented. In doing so the study provides fresh insights into the history of one of the lost cultures of the Niger Delta; a culture much modified in contemporary times.
