Download or read book Algèbre linéaire written by Roger Mansuy and published by De Boeck Superieur. This book was released on 2016-06-17 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Functional Integration by : Cécile Dewitt-Morette
Download or read book Functional Integration written by Cécile Dewitt-Morette and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The program of the Institute covered several aspects of functional integration -from a robust mathematical foundation to many applications, heuristic and rigorous, in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. It included analytic and numerical computational techniques. One of the goals was to encourage cross-fertilization between these various aspects and disciplines. The first week was focused on quantum and classical systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom; the second week on field theories. During the first week the basic course, given by P. Cartier, was a presentation of a recent rigorous approach to functional integration which does not resort to discretization, nor to analytic continuation. It provides a definition of functional integrals simpler and more powerful than the original ones. Could this approach accommodate the works presented by the other lecturers? Although much remains to be done before answering "Yes," there seems to be no major obstacle along the road. The other courses taught during the first week presented: a) a solid introduction to functional numerical techniques (A. Sokal) and their applications to functional integrals encountered in chemistry (N. Makri). b) integrals based on Poisson processes and their applications to wave propagation (S. K. Foong), in particular a wave-restorer or wave-designer algorithm yielding the initial wave profile when one can only observe its distortion through a dissipative medium. c) the formulation of a quantum equivalence principle (H. Kleinert) which. given the flat space theory, yields a well-defined quantum theory in spaces with curvature and torsion.

Book excerpt: Stochastic calculus and excursion theory are very efficient tools for obtaining either exact or asymptotic results about Brownian motion and related processes. This book focuses on special classes of Brownian functionals, including Gaussian subspaces of the Gaussian space of Brownian motion; Brownian quadratic funtionals; Brownian local times; Exponential functionals of Brownian motion with drift; Time spent by Brownian motion below a multiple of its one-sided supremum.
Book Synopsis Random Times and Enlargements of Filtrations in a Brownian Setting by : Roger Mansuy
Download or read book Random Times and Enlargements of Filtrations in a Brownian Setting written by Roger Mansuy and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-02-10 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In November 2004, M. Yor and R. Mansuy jointly gave six lectures at Columbia University, New York. These notes follow the contents of that course, covering expansion of filtration formulae; BDG inequalities up to any random time; martingales that vanish on the zero set of Brownian motion; the Azéma-Emery martingales and chaos representation; the filtration of truncated Brownian motion; attempts to characterize the Brownian filtration. The book accordingly sets out to acquaint its readers with the theory and main examples of enlargements of filtrations, of either the initial or the progressive kind. It is accessible to researchers and graduate students working in stochastic calculus and excursion theory, and more broadly to mathematicians acquainted with the basics of Brownian motion.

Book excerpt: Bernard Walsh, agnostic theologian, has a professional interest in heaven. But when he travels to Hawaii with his reluctant father Jack, to visit Jack's dying, estranged sister it feels more like purgatory than paradise. Surrounded by quarrelling honeymooners, a freeloading anthropologist and assorted tourists in search of their own personal paradise, and with his father whisked off to hospital after an unfortunate accident, Bernard is beginning to regret ever coming to Haiwaii. Until, that is, he stumbles on something he had given up hope of finding: the astonishing possibility of love.
Book Synopsis Clifford Algebras and Their Applications in Mathematical Physics by : J.S.R. Chisholm

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Kingdon Clifford published the paper defining his "geometric algebras" in 1878, the year before his death. Clifford algebra is a generalisation to n-dimensional space of quaternions, which Hamilton used to represent scalars and vectors in real three-space: it is also a development of Grassmann's algebra, incorporating in the fundamental relations inner products defined in terms of the metric of the space. It is a strange fact that the Gibbs Heaviside vector techniques came to dominate in scientific and technical literature, while quaternions and Clifford algebras, the true associative algebras of inner-product spaces, were regarded for nearly a century simply as interesting mathematical curiosities. During this period, Pauli, Dirac and Majorana used the algebras which bear their names to describe properties of elementary particles, their spin in particular. It seems likely that none of these eminent mathematical physicists realised that they were using Clifford algebras. A few research workers such as Fueter realised the power of this algebraic scheme, but the subject only began to be appreciated more widely after the publication of Chevalley's book, 'The Algebraic Theory of Spinors' in 1954, and of Marcel Riesz' Maryland Lectures in 1959. Some of the contributors to this volume, Georges Deschamps, Erik Folke Bolinder, Albert Crumeyrolle and David Hestenes were working in this field around that time, and in their turn have persuaded others of the importance of the subject.

Book Synopsis Around the Zilber-Pink Conjecture by : Philipp Habegger
Download or read book Around the Zilber-Pink Conjecture written by Philipp Habegger and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Following Faltings and Vojta's work proving the Mordell-Lang conjecture for abelian varieties and Raynaud's work proving the Manin-Mumford conjecture, many new diophantine questions appeared, often described as problems of unlikely intersections. The arithmetic of moduli spaces of abelian varieties and, more generally, Shimura varieties has been parallel-developed around the central André-Oort conjecture. These two themes can be placed in a common frame--the Zilber-Pink conjecture. This volume is an introduction to these problems and to the various techniques used: geometry, height theory, reductive groups and Hodge theory, Shimura varieties, and model theory via the notion of o-minimal structure."--Publisher.
Book Synopsis Geometric Aspects of Dwork Theory by : Alan Adolphson
Download or read book Geometric Aspects of Dwork Theory written by Alan Adolphson and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2008-08-22 with total page 1150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-volume book collects the lectures given during the three months cycle of lectures held in Northern Italy between May and July of 2001 to commemorate Professor Bernard Dwork (1923 - 1998). It presents a wide-ranging overview of some of the most active areas of contemporary research in arithmetic algebraic geometry, with special emphasis on the geometric applications of the p-adic analytic techniques originating in Dwork's work, their connection to various recent cohomology theories and to modular forms. The two volumes contain both important new research and illuminating survey articles written by leading experts in the field. The book will provide an indispensable resource for all those wishing to approach the frontiers of research in arithmetic algebraic geometry.

Book Synopsis Oeuvres - Collected Papers IV by : Jean-Pierre Serre
Download or read book Oeuvres - Collected Papers IV written by Jean-Pierre Serre and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-12-11 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impact and influence of J.-P. Serre ́s work have been notable ever since his doctoral thesis on homotopy groups. The abundance of findings and deep insights found in his research and survey papers ranging from topology, several complex variables, and algebraic geometry to number theory, group theory, commutative algebra and modular forms, continues to provide inspiring reading for mathematicians working in these areas, in their research and their teaching. Characteristic of Serre ́s publications are the many open questions he formulates pointing to further directions for research. In four volumes of Collected Papers he has provided comments on and corrections to most articles, and described the current status of the open questions with reference to later findings. In this softcover edition of volume IV, two recently published articles have been added, one on the life and works of André Weil, the other one on Finite Subgroups of Lie Groups. From the reviews: "This is the fourth volume of J-P. Serre's Collected Papers covering the period 1985-1998. Items, numbered 133-173, contain "the essence'' of his work from that period and are devoted to number theory, algebraic geometry, and group theory. Half of them are articles and another half are summaries of his courses in those years and letters. Most courses have never been previously published, nor proofs of the announced results. The letters reproduced, however (in particular to K. Ribet and M.-F. Vignéras), provide indications of some of those proofs. Also included is an interview with J-P. Serre from 1986, revealing his views on mathematics (with the stress upon its integrity) and his own mathematical activity. The volume ends with Notes which complete the text by reporting recent progress and occasionally correct it. Zentralblatt MATH
