Book Synopsis August Strindberg and the Other by :
Download or read book August Strindberg and the Other written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-05-20 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent sesquicentennial of August Strindberg's (1849-1912) birth was an appropriate occasion for investigating the role of this towering figure in Nordic literature. By Eugene O'Neill once labeled the most modern of moderns, Strindberg the playwright has commanded a prophetic influence on 20th century drama and theater, and his voluminous production in several other genres continues to constitute a watershed and some of the highpoints in Swedish letters. Yet, Strindberg remains as controversial today as he was in his lifetime. The nature and degree of his modernity are still under discussion, and so is the impact of his remarkable genre-proliferation and border-transgressing Swedishness. Once considered too unruly for the pillars of society and too pious for the radicals, his artistic and existential points of gravity remain in critical dispute. Generally subjected to traditional modes of inquiry, Strindberg's complexity calls for new critical approaches. Strindberg and the Other brings together scholars, younger and older, from Scandinavia and abroad, who either venture such new approaches or engage their practitioners in fruitful dialogue. Especially promising among the volume's methodological and theoretical propositions is the notion of the 'other' and 'otherness.' Indeed, the image of August Strindberg himself is quite an-other at this millennium than it was just half a century ago.

Book Synopsis My Lifelong Journey from Livestock Caretaker to a Climate Change Advocate by : Mengistu Woube
Download or read book My Lifelong Journey from Livestock Caretaker to a Climate Change Advocate written by Mengistu Woube and published by Universal-Publishers. This book was released on 2024-10-01 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of writing this book is to share my lifelong experiences gained throughout the years covering major topics including the environment and climate change that I felt are important to share with my readers. The topics depict my accumulated knowledge and skills and the challenges I faced indicating how each of us go through ups and downs in life. Much of the discussion focuses on my exposure to tough and successful times in Ethiopia, Sweden and in 30 other countries around the globe. The second purpose of preparing this book is to inform my readers about the Ethio-Swedish historical links and current relationships and to answer a primary question that comes to mind, and that is: 'what can we learn from Sweden' (how Sweden handle environment and adopt climate change) as well as to thank the Swedish people and government for their kind provision of scholarships and funds for my higher education, research, community development and overall well-being throughout the years I have lived there. I am hoping that my life's autobiography covered in this book will inspire communities and especially young people to be able to walk on the right path and achieve their dreams in life. Besides, I hope it will enlighten my readers about the causes and effects of the on-going human activities on the natural, biophysical and human environments in Ethiopia, Sweden and other countries around the globe.

Book Synopsis Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity in a Global Context by :
Download or read book Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity in a Global Context written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2022-02-28 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity constitutes an exceptional religious tradition flourishing in sub-Saharan Africa already since late antiquity. The volume places Ethiopian Orthodoxy into a global context and explores the various ways in which it has been interconnected with the wider Christian world from the Aksumite period until today. By highlighting the formative role of both wide-ranging translocal religious interactions as well as disruptions thereof, the contributors challenge the perception of this African Christian tradition as being largely isolated in the course of its history. Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity in a Global Context: Entanglements and Disconnections offers a new perspective on the Horn of Africa’s Christian past and reclaims its place on the map of global Christianity.
Book Synopsis Perception and Identity by : Seblewengel Daniel
Download or read book Perception and Identity written by Seblewengel Daniel and published by Langham Publishing. This book was released on 2019-10-14 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethiopia is an icon of freedom and indigenous Christianity across Africa due to its historic independence, ancient Christian identity and rich religious heritage. However, Ethiopia and its various Christian denominations have their own understandings of this identity and how these communities relate to one another. In this detailed study, Dr Seblewengel Daniel explores the perception and identity of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and evangelical church in Ethiopia and examines the relations between the two. Beginning with the earliest evangelical missionary engagement with the Orthodox church, Dr Daniel skilfully uses historical and theological frameworks to explain the dynamics at play when approaching the relations over two centuries between these two churches and their respective communities. Daniel ultimately emphasizes that what unites the Orthodox and evangelical church is greater than what divides – namely an ancient faith in the triune God. This important study urges both sides to place the Bible at the centre, using it to understand their differences, and challenges them to take responsibility for past negative perceptions in order to move forward together in greater unity and mutual respect.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many paths to Jewish ideals, and Moments of the Heart, 2020 Gold winner of the Nonfiction Book Awards and Finalist of the International Book Award, takes readers by the hand in a non-intimidating way to explore Jewish thoughts, choose a kinder life, and be empowered. Our heart has a tremendous influence on how we view life, how we act, and how we build relationships. Just as the heart has four chambers, Moments of the Heart lays out four different types of relationships: with oneself, with others, with the Creator, and once-in-a-life time moments that define people. Each chamber contains several entries introducing topics that stem from Jewish thought and practice that inspire readers to live their best lives, utilizing Hebrew knowledge, wisdom, and word play to dig deep, explore, and bring light to a concept. Native Israeli and educator Dorice Horenstein provides a self-empowering road map that leads readers towards the positive aspects of their lives with a "Lev Moment" opportunity at the end of each entry that sparks questioning, presents tangible tools and activities, and jump starts reflection to aid personal exploration. Approachable and inviting to both secular readers and all walks of faith who wish to cultivate a deeper ethical awareness and spiritual connection, Moments of the Heart serves to encourage everyone to live fully and wholeheartedly?heart, mind, and soul.
