Book excerpt: “Paints a picture of a German cuisine that most of us had no idea existed: vibrant salads, light fish dishes, addictive vegetable sides . . .” —Epicurious One of The Washington Post’s “10 Best Cookbooks of 2015” Bright flavors. Fresh and healthful. These are not words we typically associate with German cuisine. But this beautifully packaged cookbook is not quite traditional. Featuring 100 recipes for familiar food re-envisioned to reflect the way we eat now, New German Cooking celebrates fresh vegetables, grains, herbs, and spices as obsessively as it does pork, pretzels, and beer. Chefs Jeremy and Jessica Nolen share recipes from their family table, inspired by their travels in Germany. Slow-braised meats, homemade pickles and preserves, hand-cut noodles, and vegetables every which way—the recipes in New German Cooking are entirely true to their roots, yet utterly unique. More than 40 full-color photographs and creative recipes for every meal occasion will satisfy food lovers far and wide. “New German Cooking ain’t yer oma’s cookbook. It’s better. With imagination and finesse, Jeremy and Jessica Nolen update classics and lighten, brighten, and most of all modernize German cooking, that most misunderstood of cuisines.” —Hank Shaw, James Beard Award–winning author “This inspiring read includes a mouthwatering combination of the familiar (Bavarian pretzels, beer cheese soup, bratwurst, and apple strudel) with modern riffs such as green asparagus and aged-gouda dip; roasted parsnip salad with hazelnuts and blue cheese; and a simple chicken braised in riesling with onion, leeks, garlic, and green grapes . . . [a] terrific update on an often-overlooked cuisine.” —Publishers Weekly

Book excerpt: The beloved owner of the wildly popular Sweetie Pie's restaurant, and star of the OWN reality television show Welcome to Sweetie Pie's shares recipes for her renowned soul food and the lessons she's learned on the path to success. Growing up in Mississippi and St. Louis, Robbie Montgomery, the oldest of nine children, was often responsible for putting meals on the family table. Working side by side with her mother in their St. Louis kitchen, Robbie learned to prepare dozens of classic soul food dishes. Now, at seventy-two, Miss Robbie passes down those traditions for generations of fans to enjoy in Sweetie Pie's Cookbook. Robbie takes you into the kitchen to prepare her most favored meals—smothered pork chops, salmon croquettes, baked chicken—and tells you heartfelt and humorous stories, including amazing tales from her life at the restaurant and on the road as a back-up singer. Miss Robbie began her culinary career on the road—in the segregated America of the1960s, finding welcoming restaurants in small cities and towns was often challenging for African-Americans. When a collapsed lung prematurely ended her singing career, Miss Robbie returned to St. Louis, using her formidable cooking talent to open a soul food restaurant that would make her legend. Through her show and this special cookbook, Miss Robbie hopes to maintain the place of soul food cooking—its recipes, history, and legacy—in American culture for decades to come. Sweetie Pie's Cookbook includes 75-100 gorgeous color photos and an Index.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ninja Foodi from Shark Ninja is an incredibly versatile device and the cooking possibilities are endless. Many recipe books already exist for this device but none of them seem to cater for the British, Australian or European markets... until now that is. Gone are the 1/2 cup measurements and converting temperatures from Fahrenheit. This book uses British tablespoons, teaspoons, grams and millilitres as well as the celsius scale. The ingredients have all been checked against online supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco, all proved to be available. Since the device is so versatile BUT is just one device, recipes are split between main courses, main course components, side dishes, soups and desserts, meaning that access to a kitchen is required for many of the recipes. The Author assumes that the user has access to basic kitchen equipment, such as a refrigerator, a sieve or colander, sharp knives, a stove, a baking tin, a frying pan and saucepans, although many of the recipes do not require any further equipment. Many of the recipes found within will be more familiar to the user of this cookbook, but they have been tweaked or reimagined so that they fit to the Ninja Foodi 7-in1 multi-cooker and many recipes will be completely new. Many recipes also include full colour photographs. An index of ingredients is also at the end of the book, making it easier to locate recipes based on what's in your refrigerator. Please note that this version of the book has only black and white photographs. The full-colour version of the book is also available.

Book excerpt: What makes ALDI so special? Take a look behind the Curtain A retailer with an extremely limited assortment and the lowest prices in the market conquers the world with an extraordinary business model and generates Billions in sales and unusual high profits. ALDI does everything differently, ignores the so-called „Best Practices“, has no marketing department, refrains from promotions, is run by a management without any incentive and bonus packages and ignores the press. What is it that makes ALDI so special? What are the essentials of the ALDI system? What’s the corporate culture like? What are the methods of management? What kind of organization does ALDI have? What can anyone from any industry learn from ALDI? This book explains what ALDI’s excellence is based on and how consistency, ascetism and discipline created one of the most successful grocery chains. This new edition also describes how ALDI has changed in recent years after the founders passed away and a new generation of managers took over. ALDI’s successful business model and management practices are at stake. ALDI is about to become more and more ordinary.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With Keto For One, get 100 delicious dishes for every meal of the day—perfectly proportioned and macro-balanced. Single-serve cooking is one of the biggest challenges when trying to adhere to an eating plan. Most recipes are portioned for 4–6 servings, which means you’ll be eating the same thing for a week or trying to adjust recipes and struggling to figure out proper cooking times and fractions of measurements. With keto, you also have the additional challenge of balancing your macronutrients—a few too many carbs or not enough fat and your recipe is no longer in the ketogenic zone. No more fussing with recipes. No more eating leftovers. No more wasted food (or money!). No more cobbling together snacks and calling it a meal. No more temptation to give into carb-laden, nutrient-void, single-serving convenience foods. Just delicious recipes from "low-carb queen" and best-selling author Dana Carpender. Enjoy delicious keto burgers and smoothies, as well as quick skillet stir-fries and plenty of tasty meals that can be pulled together quickly or ahead of time.
