Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the fulfilment of my childhood dream of visiting the Straits of Magellan in Argentina. Much later, from 1998 to 1999, my wife Donna and I realized that goal by covering the entire Western Hemisphere from Alaska to Ushuaia, with a detour to Easter Island. From Chicago we drove through Central America to the southern tip of Argentina. We backtracked north to Belem, where our motor home went on a barge for a 1,000-mile trip on the Amazon River to Manaus. We then drove to Venezuela, and while the motor home was freighted to Houston, we flew back to Chicago. In late spring of 1999, we resumed our quest by taking a three-month drive through Alaska. The entire 40,000-mile trek was filled with many exciting moments, spectacular scenery, and wonderful people. It is a testimonial and an encouragement to all RV adventurers around the world.

Book excerpt: Searching for even more wild places and new experiences, Dan became determined to explore 'off the map' in Africa. From the mighty Sahara Desert in the north to the dense equatorial jungles of the Congo and the open grasslands of Southern Africa, Dan turned his biggest dream into reality. Over the course of three years Dan's second major expedition spanned fifty-four thousand miles through thirty-five unique African countries. THE ADVENTURE WAS A THOUSAND TIMES BIGGER THAN HE DREAMED POSSIBLE. After exploring the Pan-American Highway from Alaska to Argentina Dan became hooked on the freedom of global overland travel, and he only wanted more. New languages, exotic foods, stunning landscapes and local people with an entirely different outlook became Dan's everyday life. As the months turned into years, through highlights and despair Dan gained a new appreciation for what it truly means to be alive. Viewing our modern world through African eyes gave Dan a new perspective, and he was pulled in by the endless joy, laughter and kindness at every turn. While the landscapes and wildlife are undeniably breathtaking, it is the natural warmth of the African people that is truly unforgettable. All across the continent Dan was welcomed with love and generosity, and now he will never be the same.

Book excerpt: In June 2008 Ben Cunningham and five friends set out to cycle from Alaska to Argentina, along the Pan-American Highway, the world's longest land route. It measures 25,000 km and passes through fourteen countries and two continents, from the vast bear country of Alaska and northern Canada to the densely populated cities of Los Angeles and Lima. It moves from hot to cold, from forest to desert, English to Spanish and everything in between. In Ireland, the expedition generated national interest: it was the first time such a cycling challenge had been attempted by Irish people. An inspirational tale of adventure and endurance, of what can happen when you get on your bike.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes a man sell all he owns and ride a motorcycle 22,000 miles from his hometown in upstate New York to the southernmost tip of South America? Some call it craziness; Latinos call it “cojones.” This funny, fast-paced narrative follows a young man in his search for meaning, adventure, and the best rum in Latin America. Battling rough roads, careening buses, and bribe-taking cops in 14 countries, he discovers breathtaking beauty as well as what it feels like to hit a truck head-on. He and his companions for much of the trip—two bikers he met over the Internet—form an unlikely and amusing trio. In the tradition of Road Fever and Motorcycle Diaries, Odyssey to Ushuaia is a riot for every reader, and absolutely essential for those planning a similar trip. Loaded with insider information such as how to bribe cops and not lose one's savings, how to cross a border without going crazy, how to handle an accident, and much more, it also features an appendix with the detailed trip lists from all three riders.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the award-winning author of American Canopy, a dazzling account of the world’s longest road, the Pan-American Highway, and the epic quest to link North and South America, a dramatic story of commerce, technology, politics, and the divergent fates of the Americas in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Pan-American Highway, monument to a century’s worth of diplomacy and investment, education and engineering, scandal and sweat, is the longest road in the world, passable everywhere save the mythic Darien Gap that straddles Panama and Colombia. The highway’s history, however, has long remained a mystery, a story scattered among government archives, private papers, and fading memories. In contrast to the Panama Canal and its vast literature, the Pan-American Highway—the United States’ other great twentieth-century hemispheric infrastructure project—has become an orphan of the past, effectively erased from the story of the “American Century.” The Longest Line on the Map uncovers this incredible tale for the first time and weaves it into a tapestry that fascinates, informs, and delights. Rutkow’s narrative forces the reader to take seriously the question: Why couldn’t the Americas have become a single region that “is” and not two near irreconcilable halves that “are”? Whether you’re fascinated by the history of the Americas, or you’ve dreamed of driving around the globe, or you simply love world records and the stories behind them, The Longest Line on the Map is a riveting narrative, a lost epic of hemispheric scale.

Book excerpt: After tough assignments as a Canadian diplomat abroad, Nicholas Coghlan and his wife Jenny unwind by sailing Bosun Bird, a 27foot sailboat, from Cape Town, South Africa, across the South Atlantic and into the stormy winter waters around Tierra del Fuego, South America. Coghlan recounts earlier adventures in Patagonia when, taking time off from his job as a schoolteacher in Buenos Aires in the late 1970s, he and Jenny explored the region of southern Argentina and Chile over three successive summers. This time, as they negotiate the labyrinth of channels and inlets around snow-covered Fireland, he reflects on voyages of past explorers: Magellan, Cook, Darwin, and others. Sailing enthusiasts and readers of true adventures will want to add Coghlan's world-wise narrative to their libraries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The truth of the ages is that this is the age of truth. The first platform in the ascension process is being 100 percent honest with yourself and others, living transparently, and taking responsibility for everything that happens in your life. Only from this level of open, honest awareness can you ascend to a higher vibrational way of being, learn your lessons fully, expand beyond them, and evolve to a state of heart-based, unity consciousness that is the energy of the Grand Shift in Consciousness moving across the Planet now. This book contains insight and awareness as well as tools and processes to assist you in making this ascension. The process itself comes from a group of non-physical beings referring to themselves as the League of Elders. Ive included personal stories to provide examples, inspiration, and demonstrations for how truly magical life can be when you follow your intuition and this path of ascension. Along this journey, I learned to master the art of taking aligned and inspired action while also learning how to connect with and follow my intuition. The magic of doing so led me inside the Ascension Portal, which is where this book was written. This book and its words of living light carry the energy from within that portal to further support you in the process. All who choose to follow this path of ascension create a new vibration that the rest can then align with. They pave the way, so the rest can follow. The intent of this book is therefore to serve you in your ascension and, by extension, serve the highest good of all. The intent from a higher perspective is to heal all, including the Earth and Oceans, and to restore balance and harmony to the Planet. This or, even something better. So be it. So it is.
