Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report is an update of the methodology used within the Air Weather Service to determine the climatological probability of aircraft icing throughout the Northern Hemisphere. It presents isopleths charts of the 1000-, 850-, 700-, and 500-mb surfaces for each of the twelve months. A station listing and locator gives the extensive areal coverage of the data used in the computerized calculations.

Book Synopsis Aviation and the Global Atmosphere by : Joyce E. Penner
Download or read book Aviation and the Global Atmosphere written by Joyce E. Penner and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1999-06-28 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report is the most comprehensive assessment available on the effects of aviation on the global atmosphere. The report considers all the gases and particles emitted by aircraft that modify the chemical properties of the atmosphere, leading to changes in radiative properties and climate change, and modification of the ozone layer, leading to changes in ultraviolet radiation reaching the Earth. This volume provides accurate, unbiased, policy-relevant information and is designed to serve the aviation industry and the expert and policymaking communities.

Book Synopsis Statistical Study of Aircraft Icing Probabilities at the 700- and 500-millibar Levels Over Ocean Areas in the Northern Hemisphere by : Porter J. Perkins
Download or read book Statistical Study of Aircraft Icing Probabilities at the 700- and 500-millibar Levels Over Ocean Areas in the Northern Hemisphere written by Porter J. Perkins and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A statistical study is made of icing data reported from weather reconnaissance aircraft flown by Air Weather Service (USAF). The weather missions studied were flown at fixed flight levels of 500 millibars (18,000 ft) and 700 millibars (10,000 ft) over wide areas of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic Oceans. This report is presented as part of a program conducted by the NACA to obtain extensive icing statistics relevant to aircraft design and operation. The thousands of in-flight observations recorded over a 2- to 4-year period provide reliable statistics on icing encounters for the specific areas, altitudes, and seasons included in the data. The relative frequencies of icing occurrence are presented, together with the estimated icing probabilities and the relation of these probabilities to the frequencies of flight in clouds and cloud temperatures.

Book Synopsis The Collection of Non-Conus Aircraft Icing Data Along with an Identification of the Geographical Areas of Potential Severe Icing and a Study of a Method of Remote Determining Atmospheric Icing Data by : Nicholas A. Engler
Download or read book The Collection of Non-Conus Aircraft Icing Data Along with an Identification of the Geographical Areas of Potential Severe Icing and a Study of a Method of Remote Determining Atmospheric Icing Data written by Nicholas A. Engler and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research was conducted in three areas: 1) Survey foreign countries and retrieve whenever possible aircraft icing data that would be suitable for inclusion into the already established FAA/NRL icing data base; 2) Determine those geographical areas where icing would be a problem for aircraft; and 3) Develop an alternate data collection scheme which could be used in lieu of flying aircraft to obtain icing data. Realistic methods are discussed for identifying potentially severe icing geographical regions of the Northern Hemisphere. A useful method to calculate the liquid water content of a remote region (using satellite data) is described. The collection of nonconus aircraft is shown and data is presented.
