Book excerpt: Excerpt from Efta's Agricultural Imports Interest in the European Free Trade Association (efta) long overshadowed by the European Economic Community (eec) has been revived by France's veto of British membership in eec. This article describes the Association and its agricultural imports by area of origin. The convention organizing efta was signed on January h, 1960, and came into force on May 3 of the same year. There were seven signers: Austria, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom hence, the name outer seven as a parallel to the inner six eec (belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, and West Germany). Finland became an associate of efta on March 27, 1961. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2018-09-09 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The European Free Trade Association Without the United Kingdom, Denmark, and Norway: Implications for Agricultural Exports of the Remaining Efta Countries and the United States Efta differs from.the Common Market in that its nature is purely eco nomic, whereas the goals of the EC are not only economic integration, but ultimately, political integration. Within the economic sphere, efta has sought only to eliminate trade barriers between efta members. It has not pursued the broader goals of an economic and customs union. Thus, efta countries have retained their individual agricultural policies - unlike the ec, there is no common agricultural policy. This book was released on 2017-11-10 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Agricultural Imports of the European Common Market The United States did well in a large part of its agricultural exports to the Community during this ll-year period. This was true for commodities that the eec area either did not produce at all or produced in quantities short of its needs, such as feed grains, cotton, rice, oilseeds, fats and oils, and.meats. The Common Market cloud.has a silver lining. As the economies of the six countries expand, the United States can look forward to larger sales of many favorably situated commodities such as cotton, soybeans, oilseed.meal, hides and skins, and certain fruits. Over 60 percent of u.s. Shipments to the Common Market are products admitted.on favorable terms because they are not competitive with local production. New authority under the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 will help to maintain favorable u.s. Access to the eec market for wheat, wheat flour, feed grains, tobacco, poultry, eggs, and.pork. Book Synopsis Handbook of Deep Trade Agreements by : Aaditya Mattoo
Download or read book Handbook of Deep Trade Agreements written by Aaditya Mattoo and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2020-09-23 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deep trade agreements (DTAs) cover not just trade but additional policy areas, such as international flows of investment and labor and the protection of intellectual property rights and the environment. Their goal is integration beyond trade or deep integration. These agreements matter for economic development. Their rules influence how countries (and hence, the people and firms that live and operate within them) transact, invest, work, and ultimately, develop. Trade and investment regimes determine the extent of economic integration, competition rules affect economic efficiency, intellectual property rights matter for innovation, and environmental and labor rules contribute to environmental and social outcomes. This Handbook provides the tools and data needed to analyze these new dimensions of integration and to assess the content and consequences of DTAs. The Handbook and the accompanying database are the result of collaboration between experts in different policy areas from academia and other international organizations, including the International Trade Centre (ITC), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and World Trade Organization (WTO).
Book Synopsis Kicking Away the Ladder by : Ha-Joon Chang
Download or read book Kicking Away the Ladder written by Ha-Joon Chang and published by Anthem Press. This book was released on 2002-07-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How did the rich countries really become rich? In this provocative study, Ha-Joon Chang examines the great pressure on developing countries from the developed world to adopt certain 'good policies' and 'good institutions', seen today as necessary for economic development. His conclusions are compelling and disturbing: that developed countries are attempting to 'kick away the ladder' with which they have climbed to the top, thereby preventing developing countries from adopting policies and institutions that they themselves have used.
