Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume in an interdisciplinary three-book series covering the full range of biological, clinical, and surgical aspects in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with craniofacial malformations. This volume opens by considering general topics such as developmental biology and disease classification and then examines in depth the biological basis of the various malformations, including craniosynostoses, cleft-lip and palate with complex orofacial clefts, branchio-oculo-facial syndromes, rare syndromes, soft tissue malformations, and dysgnathia. Psychological aspects, including psychological evaluation methods and therapies and quality of life issues, are then addressed. Finally, all relevant clinical, radiological, and genetic investigations are described and important diagnostic issues are explored. Featuring numerous high-quality illustrations, the book will be of high value for all clinicians, researchers, and postgraduate students who deal with these malformations. The accompanying two volumes describe treatment principles and present in an atlas manner all relevant surgical techniques in detail. The content of this multivolume set, written by the world’s leading research and clinical specialists in their discipline, represents therefore the recent intellect, experience, and state of this medical field.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rhytidoplasty is a palliative procedure in which face wrinkles are surgically removed to promote a more youthful appearance. This book, written by leading specialists for Brazil and abroad, discusses a wide variety of topics related to facial rejuvenation. The first sections focus on the surgical planning, including psychological considerations, preparation of the patient and anatomical and biochemical changes caused by the aging process. It also describes the surgical anatomy of the forehead, face, neck and eyelids. The third section provides a comprehensive overview of the basic techniques of facelift with details of refined surgical approaches for each segment of the face and neck. It highlights liposuction techniques, lipo-injection as well as transference of stem cells, showing their importance in reshaping the facial contours. It addresses both the treatment of soft tissue and craniofacial bone structures to improve the aesthetics of the face. The next sections present the final scars after face-lifting, minimally invasive procedures as complementary approaches during rhytidoplasty and the associated procedures during rhytidoplasty. The last section discusses postoperative care. Aesthetic Facial Surgery consists of 64 chapters focusing on all aspects of face lifting, and meticulously describes surgical details not covered in other medical books. Featuring numerous figures, photographs and videos, it is a valuable resource for young and experience surgeons alike around the world.

Book Synopsis Investigating Postnatal Ontogeny in the Craniofacial Complex of Human Juveniles by : Amber Wheat

This book was released on 2015 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers have analyzed the developmental processes contributing to craniofacial variation from genetic, evolutionary, biomechanical and forensic perspectives, yet no study has clearly demonstrated the exact anatomical processes that occur in the craniofacial complex during postnatal growth to establish ultimate adult morphologies. Furthermore, previous research has not evaluated how endocranial bones (i.e., the ethmoid and sphenoid) play a role in postnatal craniofacial growth. Thus, while researchers have hypothesized that the long postnatal period of continued growth contributes to the high amount of variation observed in adult facial variation, this has yet to be shown empirically. The presented research uses cranial data obtained from 299 computer tomographic (CT) scans of juvenile heads to document the growth changes that take place in the mid-face to establish adult human craniofacial variation. The growth trajectories of five developmentally independent regions of the face were studied: the frontonasal module, the left and right maxillary modules, the sphenoid module, and the ethmoid module. This study examined: 1) if developmental modules of the face remain proportional to each other throughout postnatal growth; 2) which modules of the face experience the most shape change during postnatal growth; and 3) if males and females have different growth trajectories of the five modules under study. Results of analyses demonstrate clear distinctions between the sexes in growth patterns, as well as between the modules. Analyses within each module indicate that shape changes are occurring locally, while all of the units of the face, with the exception of the ethmoid, are remaining in relatively the same positions throughout growth. Results also reveal that males and females display different growth trajectories for the five modules under investigation. This study applies current hypotheses of postnatal ontogeny to a human skeletal sample of known age and sex, providing support for the early onset of craniofacial variation and differential growth trajectories for males and females. The implications of this study provide important information for our current understanding of postnatal facial growth.
